Wolf in sheep’s clothing: mild mannered with very good driving dynamics…surprisingly nimble and capable.
German Suspension: really good for a non-adjustable setup for an ev which are usually heavier than their ICE counterparts.
Excellent steering: On the light side but good feedback, very direct, and fun…it’s like driving a giant go-kart.
Tight turning radius: getting out of tight … street parking is easier than expected.
Short stopping distance…even with rear drum brakes!
Amazing power on demand with >330 hp and huge torque
Charging curve… peaks at respectable 175-185 but maintains high level through to 50%.
Battery preheating: manual and automatic options
Excellent ADAS…collision avoidance, lane keeping and cruise control that you can trust more than most.
Less unpleasant sounds including less intrusive audible ADAS warning sounds
Excellent trip planning for Canada with up to date charging options: location, availability, and power of chargers.
On board Nav system alerts for traffic problems even when using google nav.
Wireless android and Apple connectivity and charging
Onboard charging software allows use of dumb level 2 home unit, eliminating the need for a smart charger with control apps and all their glitches and dependence on strong wifi signals
Creature comforts: 4 heated seats and steering wheel, ventilated front seats, front seats massage function, and front seat adjustability that allows all body types to find an excellent and comfortable driver and passenger seat position.
Spacious cabin and large cargo area
4 USB-C outlets
Of course, nothing is perfect.
Limited value HeatPump: No help on short commutes. On longer trips it only helps with cabin temperature. No help at all with battery temperature. Maybe decreases energy loss by 30% in very cold weather when strong cabin heating a must. Eg. Assume 150 km lost from 450km range without a heat pump, bringing the range down to 300 km. With a heat pump decreasing energy loss by 30% the range would only fall to 345 km.
The window controls, haptic buttons, and overuse of piano black can be annoying but you get used to it and it works well.
The horn sounds puny…almost useless on the highway.
Black headliner makes the glass roof almost a necessity for an open/airy ambiance.
Driver cockpit: a bit utilitarian for my tastes.
My last gripe is that VW does not offer the same/all options in different markets. In some European countries available options include HUD, 360 cameras, adjustable suspension, and a Homelink rearview mirror. I would pay more for those 4 missing features but they are not available in Canada
