I got a pre-owned Toyota tacoma base model and I can only say good things about this truck. Extremely reliable truck. If you are looking for a luxury ride look somewhere else.

Looking for a respectable truck that can get around town and hit trail. Some of the amenities are a little outdated and the mileage is less than you want. That said, you want a capable off road vehicle that is comfortable around town with ok mileage then this is it.

Big Giant P.O.S

2013 Toyota Tacoma 4dr Access Cab 4WD 6.1 ft. SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)

Truck gets terrible gas mileage with an engine that doesn't have enough power to climb hills on the highway without downshifting the automatic transmission. Had 2010 Tacoma that had a radio that was upgradable to XM. Bought the 2013 assuming it had the same, the dealer had to bring it in from another city so I basically bought the 2013 blind. Found out on delivery they installed an aftermarket XM radio attached to the dash because the 2013 Tacoma's radio was not upgradeable to XM. Now the passenger bumps the radio with their knee, the steering wheel radio controls don't work for the XM. At 40000 miles the brakes started shaking the steering wheel when braking on the highway at higher speeds.

I use K&n Air filter and put a Toyota TRD Exhaust on . What a difference it made. Big throttle response. Mileage stayed the same or a little better. Smaller Bed but I added a Bed extender to make up the difference. i upgraded the shocks and tires. great off road. Still going strong with no issue

Best Midsize Truck Overall

Chuck Corley, 07/23/2018
2013 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner V6 4dr Access Cab 6.1 ft. SB (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

The Tacoma Pre-runner V6 Access Cab truck is well powered and reliable. I purchased the 2-year old truck at 10K miles and now have 35K miles after 3-years. It does not have all of the bells and whistles of some of the other trucks, but it is well built. The truck is noisier that is should be. Some cross-winds cause a whistling noise, probably due to the rain gutters. The 5-year old Iowa truck has no rust problems. I keep a watch for side panel rust as most trucks start rusting there after about 4-5 years. The side body panels are designed and drain well. The truck is garaged overnight and the paint still looks new. The engine pings slightly on summer 87 octane fuel, so I purchase 89 minimum. This is the best overall mid-size pickup available when comparing ride, reliability, resale, and value.
