This is probably the cheapest new vehicle you can get today. Drives great, good quality, big improvements over last truck I had from 1982!

Don't buy on brand alone.

After 28,000 miles with my 2006 Tacoma 2WD, manual trans, the overall experience has been less than I expected. The power of the 2.7L four is marginal even in a vehicle this light. 158 horses out of 2.7L is pretty pitiful today considering it has variable valve timing. The 5-speed trans is poorly geared, and not matched to the engine's power curve. The 3:31 rear gears makes 5th gear unusable. Overall, I wouldn't buy it again. It will probably go 200,000 miles, but I'll never make it! Don't consider buying it because it's a Toyota!

2006 Tacoma 4x4 2.7L

I drive 50-60K per yr and needed 4x4 truck so went with the Tacoma Access Cab 4cyl 5 sp man. I've been completely satisfied. After >10K mi I'm getting 24.8 mpg on 89 Oct fuel. While I haven't been in any serious mud, the 4 wheel drive has moved vehicle well through mud, even with OE tires. Manual trans was a little stiff, but has smoothed out with mi. I don't pull any heavy loads, only 14' fishing boat, and haven't had any problem with 4cyl making hwy speeds and hills. I'm 6'3" and there is plenty of room in cab for cooler, brief case, etc. Changing oil and greasing u-joints is easy. I've installed tool box in bed and hidden hitch. Good luck to us all.

Great Small Truck!

I owned a 2001 Sonoma years before buying this truck. There is no comparison. This truck feels like it has a V6 (only a 2.7L 4 cyl) and has an awesome ride while not being too harsh. What takes the cake is the great gas mileage. I didn't buy this truck for mileage, but I'm averaging 25 mpg with about 40%/60% city/highway driving. Not to shabby. The composite bed is nice, I'm sure it saves a few pounds off of the weight. I was bummed that it doesn't come with a tow package, but I did buy the OE hitch system for it. The man. trans is awesome, even when pulling a load. Keep your mud flaps on, the paint chips easily along the rockers; I found out the hard way.
