My First New Vehicle
Waited 44 years to get my 1st new vehicle & after driving a 93 Reg Cab 4x4 the last 5 years... couldn't have made a better choice. 19/23 mpg lol, I averaged 25.2 MPG the 1st 2 tanks of gas (87 octane). I'm 6-1, 210# and I cant believe the interior room. Only gripe I have is if I put my left elbow on the door rest to "push myself up" in the seat, it collapses & dimples in, very cheaply made. Not crazy about the Dun-rock tires (old tire salesman). A set of Michelins or Bridgestone Alenzas woulda been nice for the full size truck price I paid. Other than that, I love this truck and have NO regrets.
66,000 and still love it
Outside some flimsy door panels that dealer said he replaced and didn't, just glued reinforcements in door elbow rest, I'm fairly happy. Installed a 2.5" front lift via Bilstein adjustable shocks & a 1" rear lift via blocks with matching Bilstein 5100's. I average 23- 24mpg on summer fuel, 21-22 on winter fuel. Light in the rear on wet roads, but thats to be expected. Also alot of driveline noise from day one, but my 93 model had same thing. I plan on another 100,000 miles, I love it that much.

4wd Single Cab Tacoma
Bought new. Now has 161,000 miles with only maintenance being valve cover gasket and normal consumables like brakes, battery, tires, etc.. Replaced factory struts and shocks at 90,000 with Bilstene units. Much better ride. Just spent $600 at dealership for check engine light and truck not passing emissions testing. While there Toyota dealership replaced rear springs and steering shaft connection under recall warranty. Short cab, 4 wheel drive Tacoma is not an easy to find truck. When I bought this one there were only 5 in a 4 state area. in 2006 you could not get the 6 cylinder engine, or automatic transmission, or power windows and door locks, or cruise control. These were not available options on the short cab 4wd. All of these options would have made for a much better and more enjoyable truck. In my opinion Toyota was short sided there.

16 year old very satisfied
My grandpa bought me a Toyota Tacoma, the year of 2006 and it's very reliable, it isn't comfortable in the backseats because I got extended cab ,but it works for me and another passenger, it's incredible on gas mileage and I'm blessed to have such a nice truck

Not For Me
I made a mistake purchasing this vehicle. It's ride is way too harsh, and the fuel economy is disappointing. I got the 4-cyl automatic, and consistently get 22 mpg. While that is not abysmal, I expected so much more. The truck has no personality, and is not fun to drive. The build quality is quite good and very solid, but sound suppression in the cab seems non-existent. For all the high praise this truck gets, I find that this truck is definitely not for me.
