Used 2002 Toyota Sienna Consumer Reviews
Sienna Symphony worth the ride!
We looked at quite a few minivans and finally selected three, Honda, Mazda MPV and Toyota Sienna. Honda was little too big, tough to park and noisy at highways. Pluses were the Honda reputation and engine. minus were Honda sales guys. Mazda MPV is a great van. has a very steady car like ride, crisp handling and great price. We didn't go for it because of the third row, which is not really comfortable during long rides. So finally we looked at Toyota Sienna..We were pleasently surprised. The ride is smooth. The inside is very quiet especially with a sleeping baby.
Sienna LE/Symphony Pkg.
To date we have 2200 miles. The V-6 is very smooth and power is adequate. Fit and finish is very good. Interior layout suits our family. Was able to purchase below dealer invoice.

Sienna2002
Great family vehicle; reliable; comfortable; has all the features needed - and IT'S A TOYOTA!!
Rating
A good mini-van. It drinks gas somewhat.
Great Minivan
After months of searching for the right minivan I brought home the Siena. Kudos to Toyota! This seemingly flawless, comfortable minivan is a great drive. Not to mention the fact that its ABS probably saved me and my son from a wreck when a driver went through a red. I took the Siena on our first family trip (2 adults and 2 kids in car seats) from NY to North Carolina. Put the cruise control on (after the first 1000 miles)and just enjoyed the ride. At times we had 7 passengers in the car comforably ( and my family ain't small). Honda may win all the rewards- but when it comes to overall refinement both in the ride and interior comfort- Toyota is simply the best.
Symphony
I was in a serious head on accident, which totaled my van, on 11-5-02. Even thought the front was totally flattened, the interior of my van was NOT touched. I truly believe my Sienna saved my life and that is why on 11-27-02 I will be picking up another one.
Sienna rating
Sienna rating: minivan leader, cool design, powerful and fuel economy, comfortable, easy to drive, more functions
Warning for Future Buyers
Overall I've loved our Sienna XLE. We traded in a 2000 LE that had oil gelling and planned to keep the XLE for 10 years. However, we have many complaints, the largest being squeaky breaks-a known Sienna problem since 2001. The breaks don't just squeak- they SCREAM! I would love to hear from other people with the same problem because Toyota says they can do absolutely nothing. The mechanics at Toyota told me to brake harder!! Also, the paint is bad and chips easily; the carpet colors are too light and show dirt; we have had a couple of warrantied things replaced. My husband is 6'5" and his knees touch the dashboard on the passenger side.
What happened Toyota
I was a hardcore Toyota fan until this vehicle. I moved from a Previa to this Sienna and have been miserable ever since. Engine noise, Unrepairable squeaky brakes, etc. I might as weel have bought a Ford and saved myself a few bucks. Oh What a Feeling....yea maybe, but never again. Honda!
Is this normal?
Bought my wife a Sienna because she'd had 3 Chrysler minivans and wore out multiple transmissions on each. After odometer hit 30,000 she asked me if why it hasn't had a recall or been in the shop yet for anything but oil changes. Is this normal? - she asked. I answered smugly - Yes, for a Toyota. Her Sienna has been all over the country with ZERO hiccups. Every Chrysler minivan had been in the shop at least twice a year and did little to instill driver confidence for a long road trip. I figure that we average 27 mpg at 70 mph. Any other minivans want to try that?
BRAKES SQUEAK
I have had three Toyota cars before purchasing the Sienna van. I have never had a problem with any of the cars, so I expected the same with the Sienna. I like the van, except for the brakes. They squeak every time you stop. It is making me crazy. I am now shopping for a new van even though it is only two years old. I am not sure I will buy another Toyota. I am looking at the Honda vans/suvs.
Perfect family mobile
Very nice amenedies for a van. The style is better than most. The interior offers a very quite and comfortable ride. Acceleration is very good- no problems getting onto the freeway. The van is remarkably well built and trouble-free. The engine and tranny are smooth and work effortlessly toghether.
Great reliability and drive for a van
Own a 2002 Toyota Sienna LE symphony with 42,000 miles, and absolutely NO problems at all. Only maintenance required was oil changes every 5,000 miles. Nothing fancy about the styling of this van, but it gets the job done (transporting kids safely, comfortably, and reliably).
wobbling sound
Upon releasing the accelerator @30mph to 25mph with windows close at night. You will noticed like a humming sound.Which cant be detected/fixed by TOYOTA.
2002 Sienna
None, needed a van to transport kids since the 3d seat in the volvo wagon wasn't big enough anymore.
Sienna The Best
Very happy with my Sienna. A bargain at dealer invoice....Get one today.
Great - for a minivan
As per usual, a very solid performer from Toyota. Lacks many of the extras found on domestics. But, rather have reliability than extras
Wobble Wobble
Bought a Toyota over a Chrysler for the Quality. However, it developed a wobble highway speeds at about 8500 miles. Have balanced the Dunlop tires 3 times and eventually replaced them, but the wobble is still there!! Extremely irratating to drive especially when the dealer says it's just the road not the van.
Vintage van
God service for 20 years and 136,000 miles. Gas mileage now 21mpg but very comfortable and reliable

A Real Workhorse
This has been a great van over the 20+ years of owning it. Transported kids and grandkids, dogs, moves and more. The only minus is the AC never worked properly - had it fixed once but now not working again. Still running and it gets us around and great in snow!

Buy a MPV
Toyota makes a great product but the sienna is not one of them. The suspension is soft but not comfortable ad bad handling. Tried every type of gasoline on the face of this earth and got 19 mpg at best. Just bought bought a MAZDA MPV fot he wife and it has been great. Paid so much ore for so much less STAY AWAY FROM THE SIENNA!!!!
Engine White Smoke
After just a few months and 6000 miles i'm seeing white smoke on startup. Looks like the engine is on its way to sludge failure. Stay away from all Toyotas and Lexus with this V6 engine.
great van
