Over 60 MPG

With 2000 miles, I'm averaging 62mpg (actual calculated mileage). I'm a conservative driver and have learned to squeeze every mile out of a gallon. I should get 65+mpg during the fall and winter.

Our 2004 Prius is not as fuel-efficient as our 2001 Prius. We averaged 42 MPG+ on the 2001 and average 40 MPG on the 2004. We did average over 52 MPG on a trip to Colorado but that was downhill most of the way back. We use the air- conditioning in Southern California constantly and drive 70 MPH on freeways much of the time. Sometimes we can get up to 43 MPG on freeway trips of 50 miles or more but the around-town average is about 37-38 MPG. The rear window spoiler is a safety hazard for blind spots in traffic. Other than that it is a fine automobile. See the suggested improvements section for other complaints.

Life is funny... Great car, great mileage

When I was young, it was all about trying to break the land speed record. Now that I'm 40ish, it's all about squeezing the most out of a gallon of gas. This car has a lot more gitty-up than you'd expect. In terms of MPG, which is why we buy these cars, my overall is averaging about 46 MPG, BUT, I understand that this figure is supposed to go up as the car is broken in. I have noticed that my last 3 tanks have resulted in higher MPG with each new fill up. In terms of the extras, well, it's unbelievable. Oh, and I just applied for the California sticker that will allow me to drive in the carpool lane without a passenger.

We have 120,000 miles and until now, we have never spent any money on it except for routine maintenance, tires, brakes, etc. The back seat has more room than our 2016 Prius. 35+ MPG with my very heavy foot. I recently installed a catalytic converter protector. With two sitting in our driveway, we were sitting ducks for the pond scum that steal cat. converters. After much abuse from me, my 2005’s traction battery started to act up so I replaced it with new Toyota part at Ace Auto in San Ramon for $1,400 and had the car repainted for about the same amount.as long as the engine holds up, I’ve got a really good car at a bargain price. I love this car which has served me well since 2005.
