I miss the back window wiper but it wouldn't work on the curved glass. I don't need the iPad type control panel so i went with the Plus model. It has everything I use and need. I've never used the heated seats but they came with it. I put 30k on it in 1 year and get about 88-100 mpg. I love it! I wish there were more charging stations around. In my area they are all free. I can drive to work on a charge with a little left but can't charge there as it is a private residence. I don't notice any increase in my electric usage home. I would buy another! Plus it is a 4 seater but it doesn't effect what I need the car for. For me with the price of gas right now i can drive about 600 miles a week for just about $22. I fill up 1x a week.

Prime Time

2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 4dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

My 2017 Prius Prime Plug-in was an absolutely fantastic car during the 3 years and 30,000+ miles I had on it. The model was the Advanced and it had unbelievable safety electronics and many wonderful accessories. During the entire time I owned it I averaged an incredible 98+ MPG. Commuting back and forth to work each day (around 21 miles total) I was able to use no gas as I ran on the battery from the plug-in mode. I was able to get about 31 miles on the battery during the warmer months and during the cold of winter that dropped as expected to about 23-24 miles. On long trips after the battery miles were expended, the gas/hybrid engine took over and still provided about 55 MPG. Full plug-in recharge took only another 4 hours which I did overnight in my garage used normal electrical outlets. It is a true 4-seater and has a smaller but functional hatchback storage area. I highly recommend the Prime Plug-in to anyone who has a 25-30 mile round trip commute. I sometimes went 2 months between gas fill ups.

When the traction (big) battery is charged the acceleration is quick and great fun. Driving locally we get about 100 mpg because we start almost every trip with about 20 miles of electric range. Once the plug-in battery is depleted we get adequate acceleration and about 52 mpg. The entertainment system doesn't include a CD player and reading the screen is frequently hampered by glare.

Owners Manual sugested use 4 gallons of gas a year

I laughed when I read about refreshing the gas yearly. But I now have had the car three months and still have over half of the tank of gas the dealer provided when I bought the car, and I have driven 1,200 miles. As I have discovered most of my daily travel involves trips of less than 30 miles. The car claims a 25 mile range but the battery meter has at times registered capacity over 30 miles. I have also not seen any measurable change in my electric bill. I have no Idea how many miles I will be able to travel before I need to put gas in the car. This is great and the car is so quiet when running on electric! UPDATE: During the year of Covid19 I only took short trips I filled the tank on January 2020 it is June of 2021 and the low gas light just came on. Trip odometer say over 3,000 miles and gas mileage calculator? says almost 350 MPG. I used mostly electric for over a year and a half at about $0.38 per 25-30 mile charge. Roy Smith

Come for the fuel economy, stay for the features

Prius is synonymous for hybrid, and the Prius Prime is the next step forward. The plug-in battery has worked better than I expected. Since most of my driving is within the 25-mile battery-only range (and I've been able to get the range up to 27.5 miles), I can go for weeks without buying gas. I'm glad that I splurged for the Advanced trim level, because I appreciate features like the heads-up display, rear cross-traffic sensors, and lane departure warnings. The SofTex heated seats with electrical adjustments are comfortable. I also like the Entune app that enables monitor my car charging and turn on climate control remotely. Be aware that you are losing trunk space and a third passenger seat in the back because of the extra batteries. Navigation is large and readable, but you have to update maps through your dealer. CarPlay support would have been nice. I hope that Toyota will make it available as an upgrade. Overall, I'm happy with my Prius Prime.
