2021 Toyota GR Supra A91 Edition 2dr Coupe (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A)

Moving from an A90 Launch Edition to an A91 Limited wasn’t as fulfilling as I had anticipated. While the ‘21 A91 is 40+ horsepower more than the ‘20, it’s best attribute is a bit more stability at speed. While the car needs to be lower still, the suspension tweaks have taken some of the play out of the vehicle. There are downsides however. The A90 was incredibly tunable, to date the A91 ECU is locked. The A90 Launch had a HUD, but not the comparably priced A91 does not. The carbon fiber spoiler that was shown as part of the A91 promo photos was cut due to supplier issues. With that said the refraction blue is beautiful and the lines of the Supra are strong & the car has an undeniable presence. So ultimately I’m still pleased to be a Supra owner.

It's a sports car

Let's say I watched as the talk was going on about the release of the new Supra, the release came and again I watched as folks paid a very hefty premium to be those first to own one. The wait was worth the wait, purchased a 2021 with a small discount below MSRP and even scored a Special Edition. As a previous owner of several sports cars American, Japanese, and Bavarian, the conclusion is simple, these are sports cars not sedans, if total cruising comfort and many bells and whistles are a criteria, buy a Sports Sedan. But also let me be clear, sticks are fun even if the option exited no stick here, she wants to drive the car to and playing with the clutch and shifting isn't her thing. As for some of the aforementioned I'll be fair the Supra comes very well equipped more so with the special edition, it's not your lazy boy recliner seating but it's all power with power bolsters, your secure and reasonably comfy. As for storage, geez, guys it's a small sports car with a pretty big motor up front, 2 doors, and a yes dare I say a small trunk, can you and your lovely take off for a week-end, I don't see why not, there's room for several soft bags. Now if a con or two is wanted, let's say entry is a act of gymnastics, I'm 5'10" and not a spring chicken, but this is NOT a easy car to access. On the other hand getting out is a lot less painful than getting in. The BMW techy stuff is truly German and it's painfully obvious Ford Sync hasn't influenced their design and functionality, it does work but if your not somewhat techy expect a learning curve, as a Ford owner sync works and does so without rotary dials, multiple screen search's, or accidental button pushes. Heard this is not BMW's latest itineration so maybe it has improved. Options, We looked at the new Vette, she didn't like it and truthfully what's with the stack going down the middle of the cabin. Pro's entry was a tad easier, a little more storage, a V8, unique look, mid-engine. Con's that funky dash stack, only a tad easier to get in, one day buy one MSRP the next 10+ over, WTF, the local dealer tapes the car for 7K like it or not, expect to pay 100K+ for a car with a MSRP of 80K. We are pleased we paid 55K for our Supra, it's fast and handles like, hmmmm a BMW and because I haven't driven the Z4 I've read it handles better than that BMW, for the sake of argument it's very stuck to the road and if it's better than the Bavarian counter part, great we happen to like the looks of the Supra better as well, in Black as Blue was not a option at the dealer and would have still bought the Black anyway. For us this is a toy as many of the previous toys have been, we'll use it for the few weeks until snow and into storage the Supra goes. We did order the Carbon Fiber topper for the Spoiler, and actually they had to order it with the cars VIN, appears Toyota isn't going to offer them to other variations of the Supra. Went through this with our Shelby when ordering certain parts specific to that car. Would I recommend the Supra, yes absolutely, with one caveat that who I recommend it to understands it's a SPORTS car, and if whomever approaches the car that way should be happy with their purchase, in closing Good Job Toyota and yes BMW to, nice car and glad I waited.

A few quirks but overwhelmingly satisfied

I picked up my 2021 GR Supra 3.0 Premium in September of 2020. Five months later, I've had time to explore all it's little quirks and conclude I'm enormously satisfied. First, power is not lacking in this car. It performs, even considering the lack of a manual transmission. It is a looker, I get second looks and often comments from strangers almost every time I take it out. Same for it's throaty exhaust, it just turns heads. Its handling is awesome. Turn radius also outstanding. The little quirks: 1) You don't realize how much you use an external trunk release until you have a car that doesn't have one. Seriously, what were they thinking? Storage is at a premium, so you'll be fishing out your fob to go into the trunk A LOT. Using the interior release isn't a solution as the vacuum created in the car when you close your door will pull the trunk closed and latched when you exit. Literally... every... single... time you exit. 2) That horn... OMG, the horn on my Nissan Juke was more aggressive. And, due to its location, swapping it out is quite an ordeal. I literally do not use the horn, ever, even for a short tap to jar someone from their phone screen. It's embarrassing. 3) The wind buffeting/thrumming when the windows are down is awful. I don't know how Toyota missed this. It is correctible for about $100 with a couple of unobtrusive wind deflectors which can be mounted on the body of the sideview mirrors' housings. Makes a huge difference and they really aren't noticeable at all. This issue is so severe I expect Toyota will eventually make modifications to the sideview housing bodies to self-correct this issue. 4) Side view mirror tilt extreme. When reversing, the passenger side view tilts down at around 70%. It is literally at so drastic an angle you have a great view of the curb but can barely see another car when parallel parking. With BIMMERCODE you can recode the car to tip the mirror to a more reasonable angle (I used 40%). Again, while it has some annoying quirks, overall it is a fantastic car.

It's a fun sports car by design

First, this is a sports car for 2 people. It is not an SUV or a sedan. So with that said, this car is a blast to drive, gets a lot of attention, sounds incredible in sport mode and looks amazing in black in-person. Yes, I agree passenger storage is pretty useless, but the hatch can carry a fair amount of stuff. In normal mode, the suspension is pretty sedate and comfortable around town with uneven pavement. The transmission shifts are solid and very quick, even in normal mode. You will likely find yourself driving around in sport mode and using the paddle shifters to hear all the amazing crackles, pops and bangs on downshifts. Believe me, people turn and look when they hear this car. If you want a car to do some tuning mods or customization, this is a great platform with many developers making both aesthetic and "go fast" parts. The entertainment system user interface is odd, but getting used to it slowly. Fuel economy seems low with my driving style, but other reports seem to reveal decent mpg. The tire selection seems to be pretty good (low noise, no shimmy), although I get a little more slip and wiggle below 60F than I would like on launch. The driving position and seats are very good. The backup camera works fine, but the lane correction software is too intrusive. I either turn it off in the city and set it on the lowest setting, while on a longer highway trip. This is not my primary vehicle, so I am very happy with the design and purpose of this vehicle. I would recommend this vehicle as your own amusement park ride and hence it gets 5 stars!

As another stated this is a sports car so i treat it as one, if i want comfort and space i drive my truck. That said, this is a very fun car but of course no car is perfect and this has its low points as well, the driving assist is very intrusive and can get annoying at times, fuel economy is not that great for me but as i said its a fun sports car for me not a luxury sedan, the JBL audio system is very lackluster and visibility is lacking as well. Now this is a very fun car, i love the handling and acceleration, it looks stunning and you get attention everywhere you go, sport mode is the way to go in this car the engine sounds amazing. I like the interior and actually think it's pretty good, for the price it feels right, people like to compare it with a cayman or a shelby mustang or a corvette, can you get those for 50k? i don't think so

I saw it and bought it without even driving it. Loved the look especially in silver. Was going to buy new Corvette but not with price insanity. Got a fully loaded 3.0 premium 2021 for 57 k. First thing you notice is how crazy fast this car is and I drive a Mustang Boss 302 which this car will blow away. Very under rated horsepower at 382. Probably over 410 and what a great transmission. Shifting in sport mode is very well programmed and is better than manual unless you are really stuck on shifting. Nothing in this car is even close to finding fault with except the stupid horn which sounds like Peewee Hermans bike horn. Interior is very nice and comfortable. I am 5-9 but will seat taller although getting in requires some flexibility. You will love how it handles on the turns, how the differential gives traction, and the speed so fun. Take a test ride and see what you are missing. Car is also a head turner. The day I drove it home was some pleasant surprise.

2021 Grey Toyota Supra

This car is definitely the quintessential "sports car". It is fun to drive and goes like heck. Pickup is very impressive but on city streets you have to watch it. Fit and finish is nice - no notable defects. The car definitely turns heads and this is the first time in years I have had people walking up to me in parking lots to look at the car. Dealer was good to work with and while some aren't, lots of dealers will work with you on price. I got the premium version because some of the items included are essentials in my opinion. Takes a bit to get used to the feature rich environment but the pure driving pleasure is what it is all about.

If you want attention.....

... buy the yellow version. There hasn't been one day that I haven't been asked questions such as, "How much did that cost?" The engine sounds are worth the price alone. Especially in Sport. Can't speak to the handling yet. But I can tell you want I don't like. The total lack of storage in the front compartment. Even the door pockets are useless. There is no way to block off the rear trunk compartment, so anyone can see what you have back there. The electronic nannies are very active. Especially reverse park braking and lane departure. The first jams on the brakes as I try to back into my garage and the latter yanks the wheel from my hands. Do not spend $1200 on the drive assist package. Good luck finding one without it. Wait time to order one is many months. But you forget all that when you find the right road. And the 6 cylinder is one sweet engine. Now that I have driven the car for several months, the attention factor hasn't changed. I don't think I have had outing without someone wanting to know about the car, asking to take a picture, yelling at me as they drive by, etc. While the 2021 supposedly handles better, at my level of street driving the 2020 is good enough for me and I sure like the sounds it makes. Motor Trend said they were getting 27MPG on their yellow 2020, I'm getting just over 19. My only problem, not the car's fault, is I haven't been putting on many miles. I'm in my 80's and haven't been out and about as much as before COVID-19. The car does have its' quirks, such as, why the radio will shut off when I open door some times and not others and the center-mount monitor is difficult to see. After a year.... Handling is, um, a little touchy. The back end likes to step out. The electronic nannies catch it without me applying opposite lock. Can't see anything out the back. I have to back into my driveway to avoid scrapping the spoiler. ; It's not easy. Plus all the alarms go off very loudly telling me I'm about to hit my bushes.

I recently purchased a 2021 Toyota GR Supra and I couldn’t be anymore pleased with every single aspect of the car!!! From regular around town driving to a thrill ride down the interstate on a road trip, Toyota hit every mark with this car!! It has great fuel consumption with normal, every day around town driving. The switch from normal mode to sport mode is like daylight and dark!! You can really feel all 386hp when you hit the sport mode! The ride is absolutely phenomenal. There’s hardly any road noise like I’ve ever experienced in other similar cars, one of the reasons I never bought one. And the car handles like a beast in either mode! The safety features on the Supra are fantastic too. The cruise modes keep you at a safe distance and the car practically drives itself. I love everything in the car from what’s under the hood to the entertainment features. I would buy this car over and over again as long as Toyota keeps making it and doesn’t downgrade any features. It can only get better from here! If you’re on the fence about getting one, hop on off the fence and into the drivers seat of the GR Supra! You won’t regret it! UPDATE: I bought my ‘21 3.0L Premium Supra in July ‘21 and wanted to give it some time to explore the car before rating. I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase! It is my everyday driver, and as long as the roads are good, it’s a great ride and is definitely a head turner everyday. I love driving the car. Below is my list of pros and cons. I’ll start with the cons first, because that list is smaller. CONS: 1. THE HORN! I HATE the horn. I don’t honk it ever since I did one time after I bought it. It’s such a WEAK horn for such an impressive sports car. 2. Storage. I sent from a 4Runner to a Supra and completely expected and embraced the change. The trunk is smaller than the average sports car, but it will fit the groceries or a carry on suitcase or a couple soft sided duffel bags. So, as long as you’re OK with it, nothing really super negative. 3. The wind noise with the windows down. If you go over 40mph and have the windows down, expect to be yelling to whoever is in the car with you. I just keep them rolled up unless I’m doing easy driving. 4. The auto thermostat sync. It doesn’t exist. And it drives me nuts. I don’t believe it’s even an option. I rode in a friends X5 and noticed we had the same gauges and he had sync for his. That’s when I realized it is an option for BMW, so not sure why it was left out here. It’s just annoying and is totally a first world problem. 5. Heated and cooled seats. I have heated, but not cooled. I believe the Premium edition should have this as a standard option, but it doesn’t. PROS: 1. The lines. This is a VERY sexy car. The lines are curvy and bold and turn heads every time I’m driving. It just has a ferocious look to it from the front and the back. And just sexy from the side. 2. The speed. This car has great speed variations and there is a very noticeable difference between normal and sport modes. Wether you’re just cruising around or want to test out the 375hp on the track, you definitely get the bang for the buck! It has incredibly smooth shifting and pick up from the start. It smooths out really nicely and just drifts around the track, or the roads. You won’t be disappointed! 3. The handling. The turning ratio is absolutely amazing. The way the car handles curves is superb. It’s very solid handling and again, you notice a difference between normal and sport mode driving. 4. Safety. The braking of this car is outstanding. The specs are true, you can from 60mph to a stop in 150ft. It’s not a hard brake either, so that makes it nice. The other safety features of the lane assist and parking assist and cruise features are great. Lane assist does get annoying sometimes because if you are driving on narrow streets, it thinks you’re out of your lane and starts trying to correct. But, you can turn it off. The safety is phenomenal in the car overall. 5. Fuel economy. The fuel economy is fantastic in the Supra! Does make a slight difference between normal and sport modes, but it’s not drastic. The fuel economy states in the specs is pretty spot on. 6. The lighting. The driving lights are fantastic. They have a great field of view and distance to them when driving those dark roads at night. I like the auto setting too because it adjust between dim and bright on its on. 7. The crossover. If Toyota doesn’t have a part you need, oh for example windshield wipers, BMW fits as well and you don’t have to wait. I went right next door to the BMW dealer and got a new full set to replace the wiper that I needed. 8. Warranty and maintenance. The standard bumper-bumper and power rains for Toyota apply to the Supra, but you can purchased an extended if you want. You get complimentary 2y or 25K maintenance as well. I’m sure I’ve missed some perks, but hopefully you see this is a fantastic car for the price and quality! You’re getting Toyota and BMW in one price tag and you can trust the car will be around for a while. The only way I’d trade mine in now, is any future significant upgrades in performance or if they fix the horn! I love my Supra and have definitely been satisfied with it as my everyday driver and also my weekend thrill seeker car. You won’t be disappointed!

This car is what I call my "James Bond" car. Stunning visually, even people driving top of the line cars stare at it. Performance is absolutely extraordinary. Instant torque, the speed is almost off-putting. Definitely not meant for obese or basketball player-sized drivers. Very snug but wow, overall the total experience inside and out is simply stunning. Worth every dang penny.

That somethings car enthusiasts are accustomed to having like simplified process for checking oil level vs the convoluted routine of driving 30 minutes, finding a level place to park then waiting while the processor measures oil for you. Or not having a way to measure oil pressure. The presence of lots of bells and whistles which for some might be enjoyed but it's not to my taste. I dont care to program how many clicks my turn signal makes or what my "driver profile" is. Likes- comfort is great, I love the exterior lines and styling. I'm still running in the engine so I have only a limited idea of power, torque but it seems good so far. Brakes have an initial touchiness, sensitivity I'm still getting accustomed to. The car is still very new to me so these are basically initial impressions. Bottom line is I'd like more Porche and less techy stuff.
