Used 1997 Toyota 4Runner SUV Consumer Reviews
Greatest SUV EVER
I had been looking for a car for a while, and one day while driving down the street with a buddy I spotted one that I decided to test drive, to see if they were actually as good as I read about. I ended up going home in that same one. That says it all, best car I've ever had. They also look great, and if you do some searching you can find a good deal on these cars. If a 19 yr. old guy who is an E-3 in the military can afford one anyone can!
4-RUNNER'S EXPERIENCE
Solid SUV, stable, good traction. The brakes are excelent although I heard a lot of bad comments regarding them. I only had 2 problems: the glove compartment's lock got broken and the rear double cup holder got broken too. The tapestry doesn't appear enough resistant to endure many years. The engine is awesome, as well as the transmision. In 5 years I spent: $150 on the lock, $200 on the cup holder and $ 90 in an original batery. That are the reasons that are making me considering buying another 4-big-runner

Best SUV Ever?
I bought this vehicle used with 98,000 miles. It has been a machine! Routine maintenance, tires, brakes, and the timing belt and water pump replaced at 100,000 and 200,000 miles. Electric antenna has gone out twice. This has been hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned. Gas mileage with V-8 has been 18 avg with 23 on interstate. Great off road as well. I will miss this as I am handing it off to my daughter as she heads to college. I'm sure it will have a good time too!
Does whatever I ask of it.
I bought my 4Runner a little over a year ago with 111,000 miles and it was wrecked. I repaired the damage, installed a small lift, larger tires an HD hitch and electric brake controller. I bi-weekly haul 1-2 tons on my tandem axle trailer with very little problem. My 4Runner is a manual trans so I make the most of the power it has. I also off road it harder than one should their daily driver but this little rig is extremely capable and fun to trail run with the family. I also having been driving more lately putting on 1500-2000 last month and been getting 19 mpg consistently. I have nothing but good things to say about my beat up little 4Runner-wait one negative needs more headroom!!
Great Ride
This SUV remains a great ride with over 174K miles on the odometer. Clutch replaced at 144K miles and just swapped-out the shocks within the last month. I stand a 6'2" and fit and picked this vehicle because it drove well and I fit in it. Overall design and reliability of the vehicle is really outstanding and has withstood the test of time. No plans to trade this in for something newer as it is a pleasure to drive. 4-wheel drive has taken me up some advanced trails into the mountains, but it's a daily driver.
