Used 1997 Toyota 4Runner SUV Consumer Reviews
4 Runner w/ 86K Rocks
I bought this in with 36k miles on it. It has been outstanding. The only $$ spent outside regular service has been for shocks/struts. Driven from Charleston, SC to Cape Cod and back twice! Comfortable trip going and coming. Load up the dogs, the kayaks, the bikes and oh yeah, the wife, and hit the road!
97 4 Runner
Solid, reliable, and dependable. Tows boat with ease. Fits in garage ( Ford Expedition may not). Leather seats easy to clean.

Great SUV
I purchased this with 111000 miles. It is now at 196,000 miles. I've only replaced timing belt, $900 brakes often (due to oversize tires and going up and down the mountain) otherwise just oil changes. One small problem lately is check engine light comes on when gas gauge shows around a quarter of a tank. Mechanic said it could be just the gas cap. I've been told the ride in the back seat is rough but I haven't replaced the shocks nor do I know if they had been done before I bought it. For the last year I have had the roof and hood area start to peel but I have never had it waxed either. I will probably end up painting these areas when they get worse.
Greatest SUV EVER
I had been looking for a car for a while, and one day while driving down the street with a buddy I spotted one that I decided to test drive, to see if they were actually as good as I read about. I ended up going home in that same one. That says it all, best car I've ever had. They also look great, and if you do some searching you can find a good deal on these cars. If a 19 yr. old guy who is an E-3 in the military can afford one anyone can!
4-RUNNER'S EXPERIENCE
Solid SUV, stable, good traction. The brakes are excelent although I heard a lot of bad comments regarding them. I only had 2 problems: the glove compartment's lock got broken and the rear double cup holder got broken too. The tapestry doesn't appear enough resistant to endure many years. The engine is awesome, as well as the transmision. In 5 years I spent: $150 on the lock, $200 on the cup holder and $ 90 in an original batery. That are the reasons that are making me considering buying another 4-big-runner
