4 runner, 2wd, 4cyl

I bought my 4 runner new in 1996. It now has over 230,000 miles. Other than change the fluids and filters, and replacing the brakes, it's only required one repair; a cracked exhaust manifold at 190,000 miles. The 4 cylinder lacks power, but it gets good gas mileage (25 mpg highway). It will cruise at 80 on the highway as long as it's flat. The paint started fading after about 10 years. It also had two rust spots under the roof rack that I had to repair, but I'm not complaining since it sits outside, a mile from the ocean in South Florida.

Best car ever

I've lived this car from day one. 24 years later and 267k miles and still going strong. The most dependable car I've ever owned. Asked all the time if I want to sell her and the answer is always no. Not a speed demon but didn't buy it to race. She does all that I want her to do. Third Gen is the best IMHO.

580 000 kms and counting

I bought this 4Runner over 300 000 kms ago and it has been absolutely reliable. It currently has 580 000 kms on it and I still take it on long trips and it starts with no issues even at our - 30 degree winters. It needed ball joints at 340 000, a fuel pump at 450 000, spark plug wires and some dash light bulbs other than normal maintenance items like brakes, spark plugs and timing belts. It will not use a quart of oil between changes yet and has needed no mechanical work other that what was mentioned above. It has started to drip oil from the rear main crankshaft seal, and the other day I had to free up a sticking windshield wiper. Things to watch for are the ball joints - it can be hard to detect when they are wearing out, so replace them at 300 000. The rear differential locker can size up so make sure it is working if you plan on taking it seriously off road - it has taken me thorough some pretty tough places as I like to take it off road as much as I can. It just keeps running!

This Truck is great bought new, after looking at a new Explorer (junk) happy we bought Toyota most troublefree vehicle we have ever owned! front seat lower cushions could be a little longer for long trips though! I agree gas tank should be larger, and mpg could be better put brakes on at 60K Tires at 50K regular maint. its a great truck great resale also!

Bought my car when it was 2 yrs old w/ 35k miles. It now has over 260k in original miles and it's still chugging along. The most reliable car I've had! Got it fixed maybe a couple times mainly due to an accident it was involved in-other than that it doesn't give us any problems at all.
