Used 2004 Subaru Impreza Wagon Consumer Reviews
Street Shredder
On the whole, this car kicks some serious butt! The only issue I have with it is that there isn't any real room. My 3 year old son takes up a lot of space in the back with his car seat, so the driver really can't be that big of a person. We're moving from a '98 KIA Sportage. That being said, there are several MILLION pluses on the Subaru's side. The only minus I can think of is the roominess. The Sportage had a little more room in the front and in the back and more head room as well. Our Subaru gives you so much confidence while driving. No matter what I've put it through so far, it seems as if it know's what I'm about to do before I do.
Snow, mud and backpacking
As an outdoor person, the WRX wagon cannot be beat for the fun, usability, reliability and cargo. A mechanic by trade, I could not forego the reliability of Subaru when compared to its European counterparts. I have had it a little while now and still make excuses to drive to the store or any other reason to go out in the snow and play. With a rear sway bar kit from Hotchkis, the car, even as a wagon rotates perfectly on its second setting. Great car at a great price. Managed to get it for $21,900 with 16 miles on the clock from the dealer after several hours of negotiating. Couldn't recomend it higher at the price, functionality and fun factor.
Great car with room for improvement
This car is a great compromise. As such however there is no one thing that it does particularly well. For instance, acceleration is great, but the engine is prone to detonation with California 91 octane gas. Handling is decent, but the car feels a bit heavy. Noise levels are fairly low, but the stearing response is somewhat mushy due to soft bushings. If you are looking for a racer, this may not be the car for you. If you are looking for a practical car that is fun to drive then you should take a look at this car. One thing I will say is that I've beaten the crap out of this car by driving like mad most of the time and the care still runs great.
Best car I've owned
Fantastic commuter car, long haul car or even light off road weekend fun.
Total Package
I like the way my WRX Wagon handles the corners, Iv only got it to drift on drit roads which was easy to controll. As far as power when I need to pass I hit the turbo at 4000 rpm and Im gone. It took a little while for me to get ajusted to the clutch and power band. The AC works well The kids feel it in the back right away, have"nt need heater yet.
