All MPG Advertizments are Lies!!!
I have logged 17,000+ miles on my 2012 KIA Optima. I love the car, 100% reliable and very comfortable. I'm glad I chose it over the Accord and Fusion. That said, the window sticker read 26 city, 36 Hwy MPG. I am in sales and travel between 100 to 400 miles a day. 30% city and 70% Hwy. The best I have ever recorded is 30mpg. The worst is 24 mpg. My opinion, these figures are closer to what should be printed on the window sticker.
Recall after recall buyer beware
Bought mine in 2019 low miles a month later Car acted like brakes were applied they were not then it would lurch forward...for no reason turns out a sensor was recall . As it was in the engine got recalled could be fire hazard drove a loaner a few months . Then air bag sensor went on recall car goes back in same deal loaner car . Everything went well for a little while then needed to check oil realized mechanic did not attach hood latch so hood wont raise take it to dealer for oil change they said ohh should have brought it back in right away after last service...well hello I didnt know it was stuck until I check things. So they were going to charge for that and find out ecu on recall On a plus note good mid size car lots of leg room nice roomy trunk

POOR GAS MILEAGE
I bought a new 2012 Kia Optima LX a few months ago. I like everything about the car except the gas mileage, stated to average 28mpg, all I get is 22mpg. That is a big difference when gas is over $4/gallon. (Every car I have previously owned achieves the stated mpg.) The matter is compounded by the poor response from Kia. I have spoken to two consumer service agents, both of whom were unresponsive to the point of being rude. They contended that the mileage rating was after 5000 miles of 'break-in', despite the fact that the manual clearly says no break-in is required, and actually tried to blame the dealer (?). A disappointing commentary on an otherwise good car.
Bad engine- Gas HOG! :(
I bought my Optima in the fall of 2012. It has had engine work done 3 times. Kia refused to take the car back. Full engine was replaced on third trip in... Great looking car- but gas mileage is WAYYY lower then advertised. I got rid of my SUV to save money on gas. I'm now getting the same if not less mpg with this car. If I do not keep "ECO" option on I actually have gotten as low as just over 11 mpg. HORRIBLE. Not even a turbo... Can't say I'd recommend a Kia to anyone I know.
Changing My Mind About Kia
I've had my 2012 Kia Optima EX (with Premium Package and Navigation) for a little over a week now. I traded in my 2008 Honda Accord for it because I was looking for something a little more "fun" with more options but needed the same size. I owned a 2002 Kia Sportage and it lost $10k in value in 1 year so Kia has always left a bad taste in my mouth. Since 2003 I've been with Honda but a new Kia Optima caught my eye not too long ago and I was surprised to see it was rated the #1 sedan under $25k on this site. I started checking into it and really liked what I read about it. It's only been 500 miles but I love all the features! My daughter and I adore the car!
