The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S marks a significant milestone for Jeep and its parent company Stellantis, as it's the automaker's first EV model for the U.S. market. But don't let the name fool you: The Wagoneer S has almost nothing in common with the full-size three-row Wagoneer. Instead, the Wagoneer S is a two-row midsize SUV that's similar in size to the Grand Cherokee. Powering the Wagoneer S is a pair of electric motors, which drive all four wheels and produce a whopping 600 horsepower. Supplying those motors is a rather large 100.5-kWh battery pack, which makes possible an estimated range of 303 miles. Just one well-equipped trim level is offered for 2024, though more will follow soon.

Jeep threw in the works for its first-ever electric model, creating the Launch Edition, a special trim that's loaded with tech and convenience features. The inaugural Wagoneer S model comes standard with such niceties as a head-up display, heated front and rear seats, and a 19-speaker premium audio system from McIntosh. Also included are advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control and even a hands-free driving assistant that only requires you to watch the road and be ready to take the wheel in an emergency. As a bonus, the Launch Edition's dual-motor electric powertrain produces an ample 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque, which Jeep estimates is good for a 0-60 mph sprint of just 3.4 seconds.

How does the Jeep Wagoneer S drive? The Wagoneer S is certainly quick. At the Edmunds test track, our test vehicle sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. That's quicker than most cars on the road today, electric or not. Unfortunately, that's the singular highlight when it comes to driving. It feels big and heavy when driving around corners and posted long emergency braking distances in our testing. It's also hard to stop smoothly and consistently in regular city driving. Unlike most other Jeeps, the Wagoneer S is not meant for off-roading.

The Wagoneer S comes with lots of standard driver aids such as traffic-adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera system. While there's a lot on offer, the functionality falls short of the mark. Our test vehicle often failed to come to a complete stop in heavy traffic when using adaptive cruise control, for instance. There were multiple times when we felt like we might bump the car in front because the vehicle kept rolling at 2 mph.

How comfortable is the Jeep Wagoneer S? The two-row Wagoneer S is smaller than other Jeep Wagoneer models but offers a decent amount of space for passengers. While not outstanding for a midsize SUV, the Wagoneer S' front seats offer decent padding and support. Getting in and out is relatively easy, and installing a child safety seat, even a larger rear-facing seat, is relatively straightforward.

The Wagoneer S was louder than we expected, especially for an EV. There's more wind and road noise on the highway than there should be, and there's always hums and noise coming from the electric powertrain.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? The Wagoneer S uses a mix of old and new tech. The screens look nice, with good resolution and color displays, but the interface itself is an evolution of the same one Jeep has been using for more than a decade. The response time from when you press on the screen can be a little slow, and some of the graphics look a bit dated. The Wagoneer S comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both include wireless connectivity for your phone, and there are USB-C charge ports in both rows as well as a wireless charging pad.

How’s storage and cargo? The Wagoneer S has 30.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and 61 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. That's an average amount for a luxury electric SUV and enough for typical shopping or road trip needs. Still, you might expect more given the Wagoneer name. Also, the sharp angle of the rear window hampers your ability to fit bulky items. There is a 3-cubic-foot front trunk to help store something like a medium to large-size duffel bag.

Storage inside the cabin is fine but nothing exceptional for an SUV. There are spots for your phone, sunglasses and water bottle, but rivals offer more clever storage options. There's an optional trailer hitch, but the 3,400-pound tow limit means this Jeep will only be moving smaller trailers and toy haulers.

Is the Jeep Wagoneer S a good value? The interior is more premium than the average Jeep, though it's not quite as nice as what you'll find in luxury EVs. There's still a lot of plastic, and the upholstery doesn't look as nice as other faux leathers, but everything was well assembled in our test vehicle. Pricing for the all-electric Wagoneer S is a bit more than rivals from Kia, Tesla, Volkswagen and others. It's not quite as pricey as luxury EVs like the Rivian R1S or BMW iX, but there's a premium to be paid for this Jeep.

How are the range and efficiency? The Wagoneer S Launch Edition, which is what we tested, has an EPA-estimated range of up to 303 miles. We weren't able to match that in our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, going only 276 miles on a single charge. Still, that's an OK showing considering how much power there is. We measured consumption at 38 kWh/100 miles, a bit worse than the EPA's 35 kWh/100 mi rating. The Wagoneer S is capable of charging at up to 203 kW, but we never quite saw that during our time with the car. We also had issues connecting to some charging networks like Electrify America.

The Wagoneer S is the first all-electric Jeep sold in America. We were hopeful for more. The styling is attractive but uninspiring, and the only nod to Jeep's heritage is the iconic slotted grille. Factor in the lack of off-road capability and the lackluster driving experience and you've got an electric SUV that left us underwhelmed. It doesn't drive or feel all that much like a Jeep.

Defect Description:: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Jeep Wagoneer S battery electric (BEV) vehicles. The headlight vertical aim adjustment is not accessible, and the horizontal aim adjustment is not covered as intended. As a result, the headlights may not be able to be adjusted properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Defect Consequence:: Incorrectly adjusted headlights can reduce driver visibility or create a glare for oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action:: Dealers will remove the plugs from the vertical aim and install plugs on the horizontal aim, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 3, 2025. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 23C.

BEFORE YOU THROW AWAY YOUR MONEY BUYING THE WAGONEER “S” READ THIS. Let my story be a cautionary tale for you folks. I recently bought a Wagoneer “S” Launch Edition, I have to honestly admit, I didn’t read the reviews the way I should have had. I should have researched more. Like an idiot, I was hung up on the design, the advertised mileage and the 600 horsepower and 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. … The 0 percent financing and the $7500 “potential” tax credit were also motivators. I brought mine from Joe Marino in Chicago. The dealership has no experience selling or repairing EVs. During the sale, I had to pull up Jeep posts and they had to talk to corporate to even be able to sell the car. That in itself should have been a warning sign. I guess I am not that bright after all, so I do take blame for my own mistakes, but I hope I can help you not to make the same mistake. Let’s talk about the milage, it is a lie, the brand-new car never charged up more than 257 miles and never even near the 300+ mile they advertise. When I asked my service manager, he laughed and said, “Yeah, that’s if you don’t turn on the radio, air conditioning or the lights!” WTF?! The brand new car should at least on its first charge show the capability and the capacity. He also said, since we live in Chicago, that the car will probably not even break 200 miles during the winter months! So don’t be fooled by the advertised “300+” milage range Once I drove the car off the lot, I had immediate issues with the car, it would not move forward or back when in D or R. While parked, it displayed “Stop Safely, vehicle will shut off soon,” and the app would show my car as being on a charger, when it wasn’t. Air conditioning was not working; the absolute constant Bluetooth kicking the phone off and glitching was unbearable to even listen to a single song from beginning to the end; the grill lights and the fog lights still don’t work. To top it off, this $70K “luxury” car has the most basic door hinges where you must slam the door as if it is a Wrangler. The brakes were not working properly either and the car would roll forward especially at higher speeds on the highway. The dealership made an excuse that literally the day after I bought my car, there was a “new update” that would fix everything. This “rrt” magically happened the day after I bought the car. Even after downloading that, the glitches are still there, the lights still don’t work, the air conditioning still comes and goes, the Bluetooth still glitches, etc. My favorite of all the issues with this car is that this $70K “luxury” car does not come with a front license plate holder, which is unlawful in Chicago, and you have to pay for it out of pocket. OK, I said how much? They told me that it doesn’t matter because it is on back-order with no ETA! It also doesn’t come with a spare tire. To top it all off, when I went to register the car at the DMV, they had no record of a Wagoneer “S”, so I had to pay extra for a full-sized Wagoneer because this car has not been registered with the state! I mean this is the amateur hour! But if none of these have convinced you so far to avoid this car like a plague, this should stop you from investing your money like I did, because this car is not selling. The combination of the high price and bad reviews have stunted its sales. There are dealerships that have been forced to sell the car at a much lower prices, some as low as $58K. That means I am upside down on my investment. Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, will be forced to lower the price just to clear the inventory. This car will have zero resale value. Don’t throw away your money like me. I’m speaking to my attorneys and see what options I have now but this is what I get for trying to buy American. German and Asian cars, hell even Cadillac, is a better investment than the Wagoneer S. There is a reason you are not seeing these cars on the road.
