Better economy than edmunds
Philip Ghyzel, Newnan, GA, 04/01/2016
2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4dr SUV AWD (2.4L 4cyl 6A)
Vehicle is as described by edmunds experts, but fuel economy is better. Using selectable economy mode, which is fine for all normal driving conditions, I get 27 to 28 mpg combined with AWD and 2.4 liter engine. I try to drive efficiently. Vehicle gives feedback in instantaneous and average fuel economy as you drive. Quiet, spacious, great features, great quality ratings. So far Santa Fe … Sport exceeds expectations. Continue to be completely satisfied after 1.5 years and 16000 miles. So satisfied that we now own 2. My daughter took this one off to school, so we got my wife a new 2017. Very easy to drive. I prefer the non turbocharged engine due to less frequent oil change requirement.
Love my SUV

2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4dr SUV AWD (2.4L 4cyl 6A)
This is the 3rd one I've leased and love them. Great gas mileage for a larger SUV. Handles wonderful in the snow and ice. Interior space is really nice for two larger people - plenty of head and body room. The heated/cooled seats are really nice, especially in our winters. Will stick with this brand/style!!!
Good Grocery Hauler

2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4dr SUV AWD (2.4L 4cyl 6A)
After 22K & and 18 months of ownership, I don't like driving this car. Won't buy another. Engine has no power, downshifts every time you press on the accelerator which kills the always lousy gas mileage. Pitiful highway car - struggles to cruise at 75MPH on flat roads with a slight headwind. Does worse in the mountains, too. Suspension doesn't adjust to the weather, always a harsh … ride. Brakes have gone much softer, requires more effort at highway speeds. OEM spark plugs were bad, I replaced them at my cost and the idle was much smoother & MPG improved slightly. Bought a 2017 Sorento for the same price as the Santa Fe's MSRP & the Sorento is a much, much better car in every aspect.
Do your Due Diligence on Engine
CarGuy, Neenah, WI, 03/21/2022
2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4dr SUV AWD (2.4L 4cyl 6A)
I bought a used 2016 Santa Fe Sport with 56,000 miles on it in Feb 2021. I put 14,000 miles on with regular maintenance over the course of the next year and the car was reliable and relatively comfortable. Then the engine seized one day on the way to work and I was fortunately able to get it to the closest mechanic in limp mode. It was eventually towed a Hyundai dealership where they … found metal shavings and I was told the engine is shot and will need to be replaced. I'm still waiting on Hyundai's approval of the replacement under warranty. If I had done my due diligence prior to purchasing the car, I would've found that the Theta 2.4L engine that comes standard on the Santa Fe is faulty. In fact there was a court settlement on the engines in 2020 that said as much without directly holding Hyundai liable. There are also a number of technical service bulletins out there for diagnostic purposes because the problem is common enough. I was quite happy with the vehicle until this happened. Unfortunately this issue has led me to pay significant cost financially and in convenience as I've been renting and borrowing vehicles for the past month with no end in sight. I've given 2 stars because of my experience over the first year, but it will turn to one if Hyundai does not swiftly remedy the situation at their cost under warranty.
