Super Cruise is a hands-free driving assistance system that works on approved highways in the United States and Canada. Set a desired speed, let go of the steering wheel, and Super Cruise takes over until it encounters a situation requiring human input. The option is expensive, and it requires an active subscription to the service once the complimentary three-year plan ends. It is impressive, though not infallible, technology. People who drive long distances in light-traffic situations will benefit the most from Super Cruise. Others may decide it is a pricey novelty. Choose accordingly.

In addition to its siblings from Buick and Chevy, the GMC Acadia competes with a long list of rivals in a heavily contested vehicle segment. The heavy hitters include the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Kia Telluride, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Grand Highlander and Volkswagen Atlas. The smaller Mazda CX-90 is an upscale alternative to the Acadia Denali and is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
