My great Geo Prizm 95 LSI (automatic) just reached 300,000 trouble free miles. That is 60,000 more miles than going to the moon. No special maintenance and no special anything. Just regular oil changes. Only replaced wearable parts such as breaks, alternator, starter, and catalytic converter once or twice. Everything else has been flawless.

I have been reading reviews of many owners of this car and it seems this simple car just makes a place in your heart. Just like many other owners, I cannot think of parting away from this car. This car has really been like a reliable partner. I have 5 spd stick shift and It just turned 200K miles and boy that was a proud moment for both of us. It is amazing how such a simple car can be so good and reliable. This is one tough car which looks not so tough. Just regular oil changes, Timing Belt change, Fuel Filter change and tune ups, changed the alternator and Starter once and this car is still going strong. Wish they could make cars like these more.

I bought this car used 10 years ago not expecting it to last this long. It had 63k miles when I bought it and now has close to 120k mile now. This car is very reliable and starts on the coldest mornings. If you take care of it, it will take care of you and this car has done that. I wish Chevy still made these cars because I would buy another one at the drop of a hat!

We bought it new in 1995. It has been used primarily for commuting to work. The only unscheduled repair was to replace the starter. The interior fabric has held up very well to years of use. The exterior has held up well with minimal rust. We've had the timing belt replaced twice and changed the 4 speed auto trans fluid and filter a couple of times. I've done the oil and filter changes at 3500 to 4000 miles and the 1.8 engine uses no oil between changes. This has been an incredible car and we just can't force ourselves to get rid of it even though we have more cars than drivers. It gets amazing gas mileage in our mostly rural driving @ 35 to 42 MPG!

Bought used in March 97 in NJ with 25K miles. It's made it with me everywhere to this day & now has 182K. It's never let me down. Moved from CT to Oregon in the summer of 2008, and without hesitation I drove it across the country. Put over 6K miles on it in 10 days in 100 degree weather & over the mountains in Colorado. I can't say enough good things about it! Sure it's old now, and the paint looks bad. The moonroof and trunk get a little leaky. I've had to replace the starter & things wore out from old age & use.. BUT IT STILL RUNS RELIABLY EVERY DAY! Sadly, it's spoiled me rotten, because I realize no car I ever own again in life will last me 12.5 years (and counting!) like my Geo.

I bought this car against my better judgement when I was in dire need. It's now been almost two years and 18,000 miles later and I love this car. It has to be the most reliable, economical vehical I ever purchased. The best $500 I ever spent. I would seriously consider buying a new Geo ( if they were around) based on my experience with the Prizm.

This car is great in every respect. Good power around town, decent passing power on the highway - runs out of steam around 90 or 95 mph, but it's only a 1.8 liter. Love the standard transmission, and it still averages 33 mpg. Interior is like new, as is the paint. 147,000 miles and it's only been in the shop twice (wheel bearing assembly and clutch slave cylinder). Upgraded tires (Yoko Avid T4) give more sporty handling with a really smooth, quiet ride. Much smoother than my Explorer. There is no better car out there for the money. Period. Do yourself and buy this re-badged Corolla. Great first or commuter car. Rock solid reliable w/good performance and great MPG.

This car has been so reliable, has had so few problems. It is hard to believe I've had it for nine years and 126 K miles. My husband drives a 1999 Prizm which now has more miles but has had absolutely no problems with his either. The only thing I've had to replace were the alternator once, then the standard stuff, like brakes, tires, battery. Nothing major.

Bought prizm with 100,000 miles on it as a work car. Previous owner had all maintenance documentation, oil changed every 3,000 miles, all service done by qualified dealer, etc. this car looked good and ran like a top. Wife was driving prizm down highway and heard "pop", pulled off road and opened hood to reveal oil pouring out from under car. Piece of engine went through oil pan destroying engine. Was no warning this was about to occur. Car ran perfect for the 10,000 miles I owned it until engine let go. Definitly not mainteance issue as car was babied.

Purchased in '97 with 17K miles, drove it 4 years, then daughter #1 drove it 4 years, and now I'm buying it back from her with 220,000 miles on it. Repairs: one alternator and one starter (both recently). Problems: cassette died at 125K, chronic problem with low brake pedal. Have done regular maintenance myself. The red paint is faded, but the car is rust-free and still solid. Performance is quite good, although my '02 Neon is quieter and handles better. Prizms don't really wear out--people just get tired of driving the same car year after year. This one will get a new paint job and be passed on to daughter #3.

My Geo Prizm has been in my family for seven years now, and it has been a great car. All it has needed was new brakes (expected!), and that was at 115,000 miles, when most cars need them around 30,000. Other than that, it hasn't been to a mechanic once. It's an awesome car. It has a ton of miles on it (167,000) but still runs great. My advice? Buy one!

95 Prizm, 5 speed. Purchased New, only repair has been the starter. No other problems at all. good gas milage and real comfortble and fun to drive. Last week was T-boned at an intersection, by large full size car, doing about 50 mph. was not hurt at all, of course due to its age and speed of impact, car is totaled. looking for another one, but they are hard to find in my area.

I bought this 1995 Geo Prizm in Nov 94. I factory ordered it. I never had such a great little car, it just hit 104,000 miles. Never had any big issues with it , mainance free, just the regular oil changes, tuneups , tires, only once a alternator, starter. This car starts everyday without a problem. I love it and wish i can own another one, The only thing about it is the inside of the car with the vents that i have to use cardboard piece to hold the vents up and the door handle had to be replaced on the drivers side. All in all its the best little car and it will be past on to my daughter for college .

Even buying it used with 150K it has been a good car. The windows are a little tight to open or close now though but fixable. The only thing I'm not sure of is why the wheel alignment isn't very good. Could be a legacy item from previous owner though. Performance rating takes a hit because the overdrive doesn't always work now. To get the best mileage though I would suggest Spitfire plugs. I've used them in 3 cars now and each got 10% better mileage roughly.

General motors didn't know a good thing when they had it. The Prizm is an excellent value in the small car segment. I own a 1995 Prizm LSi with the 1.8 liter motor and a 5-speed manual transmission. The performance is more than adequate, and is almost surprising. The ride is very good, with no noticeable quivers in the chassis. With power windows, locks, and mirrors, this car has anything you can want. The build quality is second to few, and better than any other car built by GM. A great buy.

I got this car for 2200 dollars after my (terrible) Saturn SL1 was rear ended into oblivion. I expected it would be good for a little while until I bought a "real car". Was I wrong, it was a GREAT car. with sixteen years and nearly 180K miles, it has needed very few things. Granted, it was a one owner vehicle and the person who had it maintained it meticulously. Still, I think it is very impressive that a car that retailed for around 14K in 1985 has only had one alternator replacement, one new set of brakes, front ball joint replacements and a wheel well repair. I also opted to change the timing belt. I have my Corolla now, gave Geo to my husband but I highly recommend this car.

Purchased a new Geo Prizm, LSI, 95, in March 1995. As of April 2009, it has 279,000 miles. I do love this car for its reliability, easy handling, fuel economy, and no nonsense style (does not have unnecessary things that most people do not use or do not need). I have seen the newer cars (Acura TSX) and, given the age of my Prizm, I was thinking that it was about time to give up my Geo. However, recently a lady hit my car and broke the back bumper, which gave me the opportunity to paint my Prizm back to its original color and shine. The love for this car came back. There is no way I am giving up a reliable and fun to drive car that has given me 279,000 miles and 14 years of solid driving.

I bought my 1995 Geo Prism LSi with 65,000 miles. It was perfectly maintained -- not a scratch. It has everything thing I need except power windows. I bought this car strictly as a transportation vehicle. You see, I drive about 400 miles per week and for me it doesn't make sense to buy an expensive vehicle and throw all of the cars value out the tail pipe. I paid $4400 for the Geo. The Prism serves my needs fine. I get about 35mpg. Except the stereo, I have no complaints. I'll probably upgrade the head unit and speakers soon.

I recently bought this car from an individual in Colorado (I live in Montana). The car was new in Texas and the second owner bought it in 2002. It's the LSi w/leather interior 6 spkr sound system Cassette/CD - the works. Also it's the 5-spd tranny. 189,050 miles on it when I bought it - now at 192,070. Previous owner had ALL belts replaced, clutch, rear suspension, the left front wheel bearing - all between 150,000 and 179,000 miles. The car is a bit noisy at highway speeds - but I'm still running studded Snow tires w/aggressive tread - will be quieter w/normal All-season tires on it. Currently getting between 38 and 41 MPG! I love Toyotas and that's really what this is!

This is a farewell; I am selling my Prizm after some twelve years. It has been reliable and cheap. The next owner should enjoy many more years of service. It has but 128,800 miles. However, I bought a slightly used '05 Scion Xa, so it is time to part ways. The Prizm has served me well, never let me down, and I'll certainly miss her. She has a hum in the dash she didn't have before, but still drives well. I hope her next owner gives her an oil change every 3000 miles and hand waxes her as I've done.

I bought this car with only 14k on it about a year ago, now it has 25k on it with no major problems. No rust, 1 tiny dent in the bumper, paint looks new like it did in 1995. I just had to replace the battery which wasn't the factory battery that the good one was taken, and a rim was bent but pot holes do that! I love the comfortable seats I travel 500 miles each way to school 2x a year so comfort is a must. The car normally gets 32-37 miles to the gallon! Had a 91 Prizm that started having problems around 70k hope it doesn't happen to this one!

Bought this car from my dad with 33K miles on it. Had no trouble with it until 75K. Replaced starter, alternator within a year. At 93K, oil started to leak into one of the Cylinder chambers causing it not to fire. $400 repair. 6 months later, the distributor cap/rotor went and that was a $700 repair. Now the head gasket has gone as oil seaps out of the block. Not repairing that, as it has 124K and am looking to buy something else. Other than that, the car has been fine. The Prizm is generally reliable as it is a Corolla, but mine was the rare exception.

I bought my '95 Prizm in '97 with just 14k miles. Paid $9400. It now has 76,800 miles. I've had to replace the alternator twice-- once under warranty. And the interior door handle cracked. Those are the only problems. It's pokey, but reliable as can be. It runs as well today as it did when I bought it.

My Geo had 15,600 on it when I bought it. It had been a rental. It's an automatic, but I've gotten a steady 30- 31 mpg around town, upwards to 35 mpg on a long trip. I'm 71 and owned this car longer than any other. Starter and alternator have been only replacements. It's been in California all these years and garaged every night so the body and paint still look great. I love its looks.

My dad bought the car new in January of 1996. He gave it to me in December 2000. The only problem he had was a starer & the A/C needed to be replaced. It has 171k miles on it now & I have nothing but praise for this car. I think it will easily do another 100k miles. We have 2 kids & one on the way so we recently bought a minivan, as well we have a crewcab Silverado. We don't need 3 cars, but I don't want to part with the Prizm. I drive it daily to work. A couple years ago I made 3 trips to Canada & back from Dallas - never a problem.

I rated this car in '02 and this is a follow up. Now have 107,000 miles. Have replaced the alternator (twice) and starter, a pulley and the timing belt. Runs great, burns no oil, gets 36 mpg highway. Still pokey, still ultra reliable and solid. No rust, even in Michigan. I'm a little tired of it, but figure it is good for many more years. :-)

I love this car! (As much as it is possible to love an inanimate object.) Previous rental purchased in 1996 with 11,000 miles. Now at 104K. Smooth, comfortable ride (except on very long trips) Great gas milage even now at about 25mpg. Very agile, easy to maneuver and park. Classy interior for an economy car. I like that the rear view mirror is attached to the headliner, not the windshield. Aside from routine maintenance, it's had new brakes, timing belt and a small oil leak. Replaced lock on front pass door, one front a/c/ vent is propped up. All in all a very reliable car. I wish they were still being made. Would definitely buy again (but with power options this time)

I bought this car at about 90K miles, at almost 172K miles 6 or so years later. starting to burn a little oil, but it's about a quart every 3000 miles - not bad. Heres the great part - with A/C on - I get 34-35 mpg - with A/C off I get 38-40 mpg. Manual transmission. Make sure you change the timing belt & all bearings along with it every 80K or so!! I had one go at 140K, then we didn't replace a bearing and the 2nd went 6 months later. Otherwise, I've only done brakes, 1 starter, 1 alternator, 1 clutch. not bad.

This car is a dream for people on small budgets. I've covered 10,000 miles in 6 months and all I've had to do is fill fuel! The car is absolutely fine with oil changes every 4,000 miles, Tire rotations every 4000 miles - no fuss at all! Handling is very reassuring and very predictable. Fuel economy is great! Comfort level - well nothing sticks out as being uncomfortable, and that's good! This is as practical a car as you can buy. I highly recommend it!

I bought this car for less then 2,000 dollars and it has been well worth it. I really enjoy it. It's good in gas too. i drive at least 60 to 80 miles a day so I need a good gas car. This car has really been a good car for me and my family.

I bought this car 12 years ago and until recently (111,000 miles) I have not done anything but oil changes and the usual things that you'd expect to be done. This car has been the most reliable car I have ever owned and I wish they were still being made.

I purchased the car recently and have several friends who own prizms also. My band director, who is also a good friend, recommended the car to me and says his has ran well since its purchase in 95'. The car is great on gas mileage and it runs like a charm. If anyone wants a nice, small, inexpensive car, look no further for the Geo Prizm is here.

I've owned my Prizm for several years now and have been very impressed with its performance. It's very fuel efficient and I haven't had any mechanical problems at all. Also, I live in the northeast where they generously salt the roads all winter and there isn't a spot of rust on the car! It may not be the flashiest car on the road, but it's done very well by me.

My parents bought this car in 1995 used with 10k miles on it. I grew up in this car and now I drive it. It's a great machine. It now has over 350,000 miles on it. It needs some repairs, but it still gets me from point a to point b with little trouble. It's kinda a pain in the summer though... I can't use the a/c or the car will stall, and it has problems starting in the summer. Also, if I come to a complete stop, I have to hold the gas down a bit and keep it flowing or the car will stall. I've also had to replace the timing belt, tensioner, dist. Cap, door handles, oil pump, fuel pump, fuel line, and I had to weld a hole shut in the gas tank. Even with all these problems, I still love it.
