It's been a gem!

My Geo had 15,600 on it when I bought it. It had been a rental. It's an automatic, but I've gotten a steady 30- 31 mpg around town, upwards to 35 mpg on a long trip. I'm 71 and owned this car longer than any other. Starter and alternator have been only replacements. It's been in California all these years and garaged every night so the body and paint still look great. I love its looks.

Best Car for the Money

My dad bought the car new in January of 1996. He gave it to me in December 2000. The only problem he had was a starer & the A/C needed to be replaced. It has 171k miles on it now & I have nothing but praise for this car. I think it will easily do another 100k miles. We have 2 kids & one on the way so we recently bought a minivan, as well we have a crewcab Silverado. We don't need 3 cars, but I don't want to part with the Prizm. I drive it daily to work. A couple years ago I made 3 trips to Canada & back from Dallas - never a problem.

Me & My Prizm II

I rated this car in '02 and this is a follow up. Now have 107,000 miles. Have replaced the alternator (twice) and starter, a pulley and the timing belt. Runs great, burns no oil, gets 36 mpg highway. Still pokey, still ultra reliable and solid. No rust, even in Michigan. I'm a little tired of it, but figure it is good for many more years. :-)

Not much to look at - but it's reliable

I bought this car at about 90K miles, at almost 172K miles 6 or so years later. starting to burn a little oil, but it's about a quart every 3000 miles - not bad. Heres the great part - with A/C on - I get 34-35 mpg - with A/C off I get 38-40 mpg. Manual transmission. Make sure you change the timing belt & all bearings along with it every 80K or so!! I had one go at 140K, then we didn't replace a bearing and the 2nd went 6 months later. Otherwise, I've only done brakes, 1 starter, 1 alternator, 1 clutch. not bad.

I bought this car for less then 2,000 dollars and it has been well worth it. I really enjoy it. It's good in gas too. i drive at least 60 to 80 miles a day so I need a good gas car. This car has really been a good car for me and my family.

I purchased the car recently and have several friends who own prizms also. My band director, who is also a good friend, recommended the car to me and says his has ran well since its purchase in 95'. The car is great on gas mileage and it runs like a charm. If anyone wants a nice, small, inexpensive car, look no further for the Geo Prizm is here.

I've owned my Prizm for several years now and have been very impressed with its performance. It's very fuel efficient and I haven't had any mechanical problems at all. Also, I live in the northeast where they generously salt the roads all winter and there isn't a spot of rust on the car! It may not be the flashiest car on the road, but it's done very well by me.

Bought My Geo in late 1998 with 36,000 miles and have put on over 100,000 miles on top of that since. I drive my car hard so am no fussy about mechanical failures and have had only 1 major fix that is not routine. The clutch master and slave cylinders needed to be replaced around 90000 mi. I have only replace the brakes once and the shocks once. Have some minor problems with the 12V lighter hookup for my external CD player and some problems with knobs. Seats are starting to get uncomfortable. For the money I spent on this car I am very happy with it.

I've been dealing with an ongoing problem with my 1995 Geo Prizm that is beginning to make driving no fun! The problem? The car turns over and over, but will not start. Eventually it will turn over and start, and then it's o.k for about 3-4 days. Just checking under the hood I saw sparks off the distributor cap. Could this be the problem? Does the distributor cap prevent the car from starting?

I see why they quit making the geo prizm! (mine is a1995 sedan-1.6liter, with a 5 speed manual tranny!) they couldn't ever sell any expensive repair parts cause they never break down! I've had mine for over 5 years and have replaced the distributer and put 4 new struts and 4 new tires on it and that's it!!! What's so amazing about this car is it has almost 320,000 miles on it and the engine and tranny are original and have no signs of failing any time soon! i live in Minnesota where we have about 6 months of winter and the temps can be anywhere from 32 F above zero to minus32 F on any given day and the windchills can be -50 to -70! my 5 winters with geo and it failed to start 1 time and that's when we had acouple days when the daytime high was -25F and the wind blew about 40 mph the whole time! It sits outside with no tank heater to plug in to assist it in warming before starting!!! It's simply amazing! If you get a chance to own one of these "repair shops worst enemies" buy it cause it will treat you like a King!
