The Focus has good potential

Good looks, decent power, an above average interior and great handling are pros of this car and show that the car has potential but the transmission really holds this car back. The transmission has its moments where it’s acting normal and you really wish it was like that all the time because Ford has the right idea but it just is far too unrefined. It’s jerky in higher gears and shutters insanely bad in lower gears, especially after it’s warmed up and has been driving for awhile. Driving in the city is a nightmare with this transmission. The gas mileage is good, but at last 3-5 mpg below what a comparable civic would get. Overall, Ford has the right idea with this car but honestly for how much this car costs, you’d be better off with a similarly priced Civic, Elantra or Mazda3

Don’t buy from FORD!!!

This car has had problems since I first got the car, there is a grinding noise in the engine and Ford won’t fix it, they “replaced the clutch” and yet the problem persists. A FORD employee told me that Ford messed up on the design of this car, that’s not what anyone wants to hear!!! And now a mechanic told me that the vehicle is unsafe to drive because there is a grinding vibration underneath my feet, yeah I’ve know this vehicle is unsafe to drive and Ford corporate basically told me that they don’t care!!! Never buying FORD EVER AGAIN

Check the docking fee, which is a joke for consumers, that't a mark-up for dealers. Also the taxes and everything else before buying.

Ford Focus Hatch

Having rented them in the past, I always liked this last generation Focus. Comfortable seats, nice options, nimble. When it was time for me to purchase a new vehicle, I had Ford Focus on my short list along with Subaru Impreza and VW GTI. I picked the 2016 Focus because of the Sync 3 upgrade. I would not buy anything older for this reason alone. I also went with the Titanium trim to get all the latest bells and whistles such as remote start, Apple Car Play, heated seats, beck-up camera, etc. I've owned the car for a month and it has not disappointed. It is a great cat for running around town which is it's main function. If I had purchased either of the other two models I would have had to buy a 2017 model to be similarly equipped which would have meant several thousand more dollar outlay. What you should be aware of is the automatic transmission issue. It has a dual clutch transmission which means it is not going to be as smooth as a regular automatic transmission. On top of that, there have been reported issues with the shifting which a quick Google search will produce. On the plus side, Ford has extended the warranty on the drivetrain to 7 years or 84,000 miles so you'll want to buy a car that is within that warranty. If buying from a Ford dealer, inquire when the last time the transmission was serviced. You may want to insist that this be done prior to purchase. The other issue is that there is a lag when initially accelerating in first gear. I don't consider this a big deal as many cars have it but it seems more noticeable in a sporty Focus. These are the only 2 reasons I can think to not give this car five stars (but I rarely give anything 5 stars). Great value, fun to drive, nicely optioned in Titanium trim, easy to park. The 2.0 liter engine has been around a while and has a good history. Plenty of power for this little car. I have been satisfied with my purchase.

Never buying ford again

I should of read the reviews before buying the 2016 Ford Focus. The very first thing I noticed upon driving this car is the shutter on acceleration, which I told the people at ford and they said it was normal. Um ok doesnt sound normal to me. Flash forward a year and a half I’m already having mechanical issues with the car saying high heat turn off car. It took them 5 weeks to figure out it was a crack in the coolant resovoire. Customer service is weak as hell. I just traded it in for a 2019 Toyota Tacoma and I can already feel the difference in quality. DO NOT BUY THE FORD FOCUS YOU WILL REGRET IT
