This vehicle has a recall on the the clutch so I went in and got it replaced and a few months later it failed anyway and I was stranded at a Taco Bell. Before this incedent it continued to have a shutter along with other minor problems. Not reliable, I do not recommend at all.

I Purchased this focus thinking it would have the same quality as my 2005 Ford focus everything has gone wrong with this car from the sunroof leaking to the battery needing to be replaced twice and you can’t do it yourself because you can’t get to the battery under the hood. The Ford dealer in Lumberton North Carolina the people are rude obnoxious many problems with the car. Ford has dropped the ball on quality.having many other cars had a 2005 ford focus. Loved it that focus had 219k on it when I got totaled hope the newer focus lasts as long..my 2014 focus has 45k on it. this car is great so far few minor issues.. ford charges you $60 a year to use the ford destinations app. the only other issue is dings and small dents you have to park the newer focus away from any other cars dents very very easy. needs body side molding with such thin/soft body panels....with the issues I still would recommend this car...

I bought the car used in April 2017. It had just under 50K on the odometer. I took into account the transmission issues many owners of this year experienced. Most were serviced by the manufacturer. I also took under consideration this is a dual-clutch transmission. It isn't a typical automatic transmission. In February 2018, the transmission did give me some trouble. They replaced a module and the clutch. No money out of pocket since the transmission is under warranty for 100k. Since then, I have had no further issues. I have driven the car cross-country and found it to be quite accommodating. The infotainment is wonderful. The drive is firm, yet smooth. Gas mileage ranged from 28MPG (mountain driving) to 38MPG (TEXAS...). What I wish my car had was navigation (not a deal breaker since my phone has it), a bit more rear seat room, a slightly larger trunk and perhaps a little better gas mileage. Overall, I can't complain. Hopefully, with proper maintenance, the car will last as long as my Honda did. In June of 2019, I had to replace the PCM. FORD WANTED $1600 to fix it. Went online and found it can be done for less than half of the cost. I did get the PCM replaced for under $600 by an independent mechanic. Ford did offer to fix it (for the same price AFTER I contacted Ford), but the work was already done. Note to anyone who goes to a dealership for major repairs: CHECK OTHER OPTIONS! I have replaced all four tires so there shouldn’t be any other issues that I am aware of. UPDATE: I sold my focus in January 2021. While I did not have any further issues in questionable reliability caused me to think twice about keeping it over 100K miles. I was willing to take a loss on the Focus to get a new car with a better warranty and reliability.

192,000 miles and still kicking

This has been the perfect car for my driving habits. 80-90% highway miles. The dual clutch transmission took some getting used to, but has held up nicely; albeit mostly highway miles. Engine runs like a champ. The car averages ~38 mpg on the highway and 36 in the city. Mpg is less in the winter, ~3-5 mpg. My biggest complaint is that the radio went out after 5 years; sounds like a common problem from focus forums. I removed the rear seat head rests because the hinder my vision out the back window. The car cabin can be a bit noisy at highway speeds, and watch out when/if you lower your windows while driving as you can cause some pretty deafening air turbulence inside the cabin. Overall I am very pleased with the vehicle and aiming for 250,000 miles.
