Based on the same basic underpinnings as the Giulia sedan, the 2026 Alfa Romeo Stelvio promises to emphasize the "sport" in SUV. That was certainly true for the 505-horsepower Stelvio Quadrifoglio, but Alfa Romeo discontinued it last year. That leaves the regular Stelvio as your sole choice for 2026. Alfa Romeo has also slimmed down the vehicle's trim level offerings this year. There is now just a base trim level and a few optional packages for this small luxury SUV.

Driving experience

How does the Alfa Romeo Stelvio drive? The Stelvio's turbocharged engine makes decent power, but it struggles to best its rivals like the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC in all performance categories. The Alfa's acceleration is fairly unremarkable compared to the competition, and it cannot push you back into the seat like a sporty SUV should. We also noticed poor emergency braking performance in our testing. Our test Stelvio needed 130 feet to come to a stop from 60 mph. That's even longer than the much larger Chevrolet Tahoe achieved in our testing.

Around town, the Stelvio somewhat redeems itself thanks to its smooth-shifting transmission and a compliant ride, making it ideal for daily comfort. The large windows also make it pretty easy to see out of. You'll need it too because the Stelvio has a blurry, low-resolution rearview camera and does not offer a surround-view parking camera system like almost every other luxury SUV does.

How comfortable is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio? The Stelvio's cabin is one of the most stylish in the class. Up front, you get bucket-style seats with excellent side and leg bolsters. They may not have the thickest padding, but thanks to their excellent support, they're quite comfortable. There's ample space up front, too, meaning that even the tallest among us won't struggle to fit or get in and out of this small SUV.

The second row is a different story entirely. Its seats are flat and firm, and compared with its competitors, the Stelvio offers the least rear legroom. So while it's still easy to get in and out thanks to this SUV's relatively low ride height, parents may struggle to maneuver a car seat into place, and adults won't want to sit back there on longer drives.

Look around, and you'll find a cabin filled with physical buttons and switches, which we find to be a welcome change from competitors that use mostly touchscreen-based controls. They're easy to use, and the cabin's layout is easy to memorize, so there's no need to interact with a screen to make quick adjustments.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? Given the choice between a modern tablet-style screen and the Stelvio's well-integrated, smaller display, we'll always choose the latter. However, this Alfa is in desperate need of updates in the tech department, as the software feels a few generations behind that of its rivals. It's hard to navigate at times, and the 8.8-inch screen's quality is far from the highest, and it feels downright old.

Thankfully, you can work around this by connecting your phone with wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This Stelvio Intensa comes standard with a wireless charging pad, USB ports in both rows, and a smartphone app for remote control.

Storage & cargo

How’s storage and cargo? Compared to rivals like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which have grown in size following complete redesigns, the Stelvio is now one of the smallest in its class. The Stelvio's 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space is less than most competitors and substantially smaller than the X3's 31.5 cubic feet. That said, we found it plenty practical for daily errands.

Small item storage upfront is just okay. Its door pockets aren't overly spacious, nor is its center console. You get two cupholders in front of its gear selector, but don't expect to park any large water bottles in them.

In terms of towing, the Stelvio also falls short, with a rating of just 3,000 lb, which is less than most rivals and far behind the X3's 4,850-lb rating.

Is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio a good value? The Stelvio's build quality is solid. Our test vehicle boasted good paint quality and even panel gaps. It's a similar story on the inside, where the Stelvio's leatherwork is excellent, though it's let down by the cheapness of some of the plastic buttons you'll interact with most often. Pricing for the Stelvio is attractive; you'll likely be paying thousands less than you would for a comparably equipped BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Warranty is average, with four years/50,000 miles of coverage for both the basic and powertrain components.

How’s the fuel economy? The Stelvio gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in combined city/highway driving. This is pretty typical for a non-hybrid small luxury SUV.

While it's true that the Stelvio feels old in some areas, particularly its tech, its good looks are proof that great design endures. While its competitors from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz embrace overly complicated looks, trying to come across as cutting-edge but often falling flat, this Alfa has bodywork that curves and flows beautifully. It's not trying to be over-the-top, and it manages to be sporty, stylish and restrained. While its rivals look dated long before they hit the dealer lot, this Stelvio should look great no matter how many years roll by.

The 2026 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is one of those rare luxury SUVs where buyers are already landing about $3,500 off sticker, and the remaining new inventory is sitting long enough to give you real room to press for a deal.

You can reasonably target total savings of about $3,500 on a new Stelvio, since buyers are paying that much below MSRP based on transaction data. There are no general customer cash rebates right now, so the Edmunds Suggested Price is still driven by the dealer discount alone.
There are only 224 new Stelvios nationwide, so supply is tight and your trim and color choices may be limited. If you find the one you want, move quickly and consider reserving that VIN before it hits the lot.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti Sport 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

As I was reading through reviews on your site, it bothered me to see only 3 stars for this car’s review. I have owned this car since February ‘21 now and it’s been fun to own and drive vs my 2019 BMW X3. Both cars are similar in a sense that Alfa is the old BMW. It’s more exciting to drive and significantly faster.
