This truck has been very reliable for me in the length of time that I've owned it . It's never left me stranded anywhere. Just recently I completed some extensive work, like all new U joints, front disc rotors and brake pads, front bearings, clutch assembly, new tires; interior is in excellent shape. I'm the only one ever in it. Oh ya - also replaced bushings in I beam suspension.

It's a truck that lasts and can take you anywhere. The 4.9 with the 5 speed is hard to beat.

Why not - its a Ford pickup

Excellent experience. In 108,000 miles, I've replaced the starter solenoid, cracked windshield and the torque converter seal. Of course I've gone through a couple of batteries and one thermostat. The design of the cooling system was well engineered. There is a bypass channel around the thermostat. When the thermostat failed closed last summer the engine indicated temperature never reached the redline. The original tires were terrible, had 2 of them come apart prior to the recall. The truck still has the original exhaust system and has never failed the TX annual state inspection. Overall, except for gas mileage, super pickup. In 1996 gas mileage was not that important.

I was a chevy man for years and hated Fords because I had a 86 ranger4x4 that was pure junk. I wanted a dodge ram but couldnt afford one so I bought a 96 F-150 xlt 4x4. I love it. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It rides excellent for a 4x4. I have the 5.0 v8 and it has plenty of pulling power. I have a race car that I tow to the local track and can run 70 mph down the highway with no problem. The truck had 50000 miles on it when I purchased it and now has 102000. The only problem I have had is the automatic hubs had to be replaced due to NAGS HEAD sand.I will not own another truck unless it is a Ford F- 150.
