I purchased my 2004 Expedition used with 20000 miles on it in 2006. I have enjoyed this vehicle every mile I've owned it. Unfortunately the other day I was rear ended by a commercial vehicle doing 45 mph. It was the end of the Expedition, but the quality of this vehicle saved my life. I would recommend this vehicle 100 times out of 100! Looking for a new one as we speak.

I bought this Expedition after saying I was done with Ford after 2 bad experiences with Ford vehicles in the past. I turned in my lease lemon 05 F150 in 06 and saw this Expedition on the lot and something told me to give Ford 1 more try. I'm glad I did. I bought it with 37k and 4 yrs later and with 76,XXX + miles it has been a great vehicle. Only issues I've had was a rear end whine and a sticky brake caliper. That's it. Both fixed under warranty years ago. It has been the best bad winter weather vehicle I've ever driven and that's saying a lot here in Michigan! It's made me a Ford Guy again. I think you should buy one.

I live in LA Paz Bolivia and bought my 04 expedition on 07 with 70,000 miles. Now it has 162,000 and it just been crash twice really hard. Safety is the best issue with this summer. The roads are of the worst quality and the sun still feels really strong. It has never left me down or hanging and that is a plus five here in Bolivia. Traveled all over the country with absolutely no disappointment. I can really say ford Is built tough. I had even had to tow one of my other big truck uphill and it felt awesome for my truck to be able to do that. The best car ever!!!! I just wished it would keep a better value. But all the other pros outweigh the resale value. Just great

We bought our Expedition after having a Chrysler Town and Country mini van. I'll tell ya what.... I dont know why we didnt just buy a Expedition in the first place! Awesome truck. We have 3 kids and two Labrador retrievers that go everywhere with us. We have so much more room than we did with with the van. We can also tow our 29ft. camper no problem or our ATV trailer with three ATVs. We bought it with 122,000 miles on it and are going on 150,000 with no problems. We get about 15 in town and as high as 20 on the highway. I have a F250 superduty too, but its sure nice to have the option to take the comfortable truck now when we pull something. I'd recommend one to anybody. Good solid truck!

For anyone thinking about getting a Ford Expedition, don't think any longer! If you have the need for a people mover that is bulletproof, reliable, and of high quality, this is the vehicle for you.... I have had this Ford since new and now have 225K miles on it without any major problems... Just have changed the oil every 5k-10k miles, and kept up with scheduled maintenance...thats it. Have 3 teenagers into sports, hauling family for ski trips, etc - you get the picture...Once the wheels fall off this Ford, I wouldn't hesitate to get another one... hope this helps..

We have reached 154000 miles now . This SUV has been almost flawless . It has been reliable not to have left us ever stranded . We have a 6 year old Daughter with special needs and now on hospice care. When we needed it for emergencys, trips to the hospitals 100 miles away 2 times a week . Run fast and hard at times of emergency to get her to hospital fast to save her life . Not one problem with the Expedtion . Hopefully the right people will read this who might have the same situation as mine and buy this great built suv. Thank you Ford !

Considering the price of these vehicles’ new, I always look for a new used one. Believe me, no one else knows or cares. At over 50K brand new, I get the same luxury for around 30K, or less. I think the Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer, is one of the most awesome SUVs on the market today. They are as reliable and dependable as any Toyota, and like Toyota, they don’t change style much. For an SUV, you just can’t go wrong. I have 160K on mine now, and it purrs like a kitten. But, as an engineer, I can’t stress to you the value of maintenance!! You keep the fluids changed and tune it; you will be one happy camper. ALL of

As a family with four kids, expecting our fifth, we needed to upgrade from our cramped Toyota Sienna minivan, and I am SO GLAD we went with the expedition. It's roomy, comfortable, practical, and stylish. Our van felt like driving a boat; it drifted in the road with typical minivan steering and got battered in the wind. Even though the Expedition is much bigger, the steering is WONDERFUL and we feel only the windiest days, barely. I feel safe driving my family around in this, and it handles like a dream in the rain. We bought it with 101k miles on it and will drive it until it dies. And then buy another! This family will never buy minivans again. Update: we have now owned this car for 2 years and I haven't changed my mind. I LOVE THIS CAR! After she dies (let's hope it's many years from now), we will buy another one for sure. She's 12 years old now and the only repair cost we've has aside from regular maintenance is replacing the a.c. compressor. Not bad for a 12 year old CAR!

Have 85k on our expedition and it has been a great vehicle. This vehicle does it all. We tow our camper, plow the driveway, and load it up for vacation (storage box on roof, basket on rear hitch). You can't find a crossover that will be this versatile. Gas mileage is not great but try to pack a family in a prius. Had a few minor problems but I usually fix myself. Overall an excellent vehicle and plan on purchasing another one in a few years.

I bought this car new in 2004. Has custom steering wheel and faux wood dash from dealer. This SUV is great. Simple comfort and easy to drive. Much better handling once I got rid of the Contitrac tires that came OEM and upgraded to some excellent Goodyear Forteras. Only one maintenance problem with rear compressor which was ~$450 to replace. Only have 47,000 miles on the truck. I think this truck will last a long time. UPDATE: This truck will not die. Now has 235,000 miles on it. Finally had to replace both front wheel hubs (bearings) and did brakes and alignment at the same time (by far the most money I have spent on the car since I bought it new). Spark plug issue is long standing but now I just replace them every two years to avoid any problems. Most reliable car. Period Still won’t die. 250,000 miles. Catalytic converters is failing. Time for aftermarket parts.

Purchased this used at 44K miles last year after having a 4 cyl Altima. First I would not go back to a car. Sitting this high is awesome. The truck itself is great and I have had no major problems. The tire monitoring system goes off when the car is cold but otherwise no major mechanical issues. DVD is great for my 3 kids and I added XM radio so this is like a home away from home. Owned the lemon Ford Tempo many years ago and vowed that I would never own a Ford again....maybe not a car but the SUVs are great. That is one thing that Ford is good at.

89,000 trouble free miles. We live 100 miles from nowhere and to travel 135 miles for shopping is common, this SUV has never let us down. Mpg is 18.5 and we drive 75 to 80 mph also pull a 18 ft enclosed trailer on occasions with no problems. The wife would like for me to get a new truck but this one will get new tires and keep going a few more years!

Outside appearance is nicer than the older style, sits lower and feels tighter on the road. It does, however have it's share of rattles and squeaks, something totally unacceptable for a vehicle in this price range. Specifically, the dash, rear window, and tha passenger door window vibrates at highway speeds. Can't tell you what Ford uses on the front brake pads but it's garbage! The brake dust on these trucks is brutal! Funny, they don't acknowledge it as being a problem. I changed pads with 10,000 miles, how bad is that? Finally, the middle row seat needs to recline with the outter two. Ever have kids fighting over seats Ford?

I purchased this beast around 2008 with 22,000 miles on it for little of nothing, Did not want the four wheel drive but the price was to good to pass up, It is great but it does suck up the gas. I am always towing something and it is good for that and winters all wheel drive is cool. Now it is 2014 with only 70,000 miles on it running strong. If you can handle the gas mileage get on. I see many of them with well over 200,000 miles on them so it will last with regular maintance.

I bought mine in 07 with 40k+and I am about to hit an amazing 200k. Now that isn't that amazing but considering I have spent very little money outside of normal wear ant tear repairs. Engine, transmission, Dvd player, heated and cooled seats, side mirror defrosters etc..... all work great It is 2014 and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. I am going to keep this truck until she dies!!

I bought my 04 Expedition Eddie Bauer about two years ago. When I bought it it had 130,000 miles on it. It seemed to be in excellent condition when I bought it, especially for a vehicle with that many miles on it. Since then I have put another 35,000 miles on it, and every one of them has been completely trouble free. This vehicle has performed flawlessly the entire time I've owned it. I've never had a vehicle with this many miles on it. It's still my vehicle of choice for long trips! We recently returned from a 1000 mile trip up to the mountains, and as expected, the Expedition gave us no problems at all. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants a reliable, roomy car.

Great car value. This SUV holds so much. It handles better in the snow than my Range Rover which cost more than twice as much. This has been my best car purchase. Mileage is bad, but what real SUV has good mileage? This truck looks good on the road or parked next to anything. Also, the design still looks good today more than five years after the 2004 XLT first rolled off the production line.

Wife bought 04 Eddie Bauer rwd with 5.4 engine at 45K miles. It now has 362,000 miles (!) and neither engine nor transmission has ever had any work on it-- AMAZING. At this point, uses about 1 quart of full synthetic oil ever 3,000 miles. Have run full syn oil ALWAYS and premium filters. Had to replace alternator at 250,000 miles and also a/c compressor, dryer, expansion valves, did that at 300,000 miles. NO rust or hardware corrosion / rust at all. We drive this vehicle between Missouri and Florida homes, 1,000 miles each way-- so most miles are highway. Cruises at 70-75 and will achieve close to 19 mgp if you take it easy, otherwise 17-16 on highway. Had to replace air suspension at 225K miles and went to strut/shock, cost around $600 to do- not too bad. We have excellent mechanics in both Missouri and Daytona Beach and are careful to maintain vehicle properly. It has been an amazing vehicle, but with this many miles, my wife wants to go to a newer model - can't blame her for that, but the Expedition realistically would run to 500,000 miles with no issues, based upon continuing excellent performance, minimal oil consumption, acceptable highway mileage and continuing great ride quality. The only non-function item is our tire pressure monitoring system, and that is due to battery giving out in the wheel sending unit. Not worth it to us to replace them, but even that is pretty minor cost, we just didn't feel it worth cost to replace them all. Will definitely miss this one when replaced, can't overstate the quality built into Expedition and the incredible, trouble-free use it has given. Hoping next one is as good!! POST DATE: Finally turned in this Expedition...and got ANOTHER Eddie Bauer Expedition. Cannot overstate the quality built into these vehicles, absolutely the best. Fabulous ride quality, total reliability, nice looking vehicle, reasonable gas mileage (for what it is!). These are really awesome vehicles from the perspective of quality, value, reliability, and ease of service. I don't work for Ford, but have to tell you, they are building superb vehicles. Update- The replacement Expedition is even better than the 2004. Flawless performance at 250,000 miles, getting ready for another Expedition very soon. This vehicle is in fantastic condition, nobody believes it has as many miles as id does. This is an easy 500,000 mile vehi le,no question at all.

Where's the Quality and Reliability?

I traded in my 1997 Expedition for a new 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition because of all of the improvements. While the new features and styling are great the build quality and reliability are terrible! In 2 years the differential has been rebuilt twice, the battery failed, one window motor failed, comfort seats (heat & a/c) failed, passenger mirror motor failed and has more rattles that a daycare. Now I've been told that the front brake rotors need to replaced because they are too thin at 20K! I called Ford and they said that they were not under warranty but the replacements had been "redesigned" to resolve this problem. They admitted that this was a design defect but it would not be covered or pro-rated.

Fun vehicle. Great for a family of 5. It handles great, but could be better on the mechanics. Have had lots of problems with the driver seat, rattles in the dash, water leak from the rear window and a loud humming noise from the axle. The dealership has had the car for many issues. Gas mileage could be better, but what do you expect of a big truck. Even though we have had issues I would purchase another. Other cars same size do not compare with ride and room, also the deals and rebates Ford gives is much better than the rest.

On my third rear end covered by warranty. A ticking in the drivers side door that nobody can find, plastic cladding on doors are fading badly (garage kept), tire pressure monitors useless, paid for leather got something that isn't leather (perhaps it comes from plastic cows), tailgate has blisters in the paint, steering wheel cover falling off. All these issues are created by accountant driven engineering. On the up side I pull a 6500 lb boat and it does it quite well although I doubt it could pull the 8500 lbs its rated for. Handles well for a large truck. Excellent brakes. Engine performance from the 5.4 L is great. Climate control is good. Good winter vehicle. Inspires in all weather

THE EXPEDITION IS A MUCH SOUGHT-AFTER SUV. FORD SHOULD CONFIGURE FACTORS SUCH AS ECONOMY, TORQUE, ETC.(ENGINEERIGNG) WITH INTERIORS. CAPTAIN'S CHAIR SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE. 6 CD CHANGER SHOULD BE STANDARD. AND HEADREST MORE ATTENTION AS HEIGHT IS TOO HIGH FOR SMALL 5'2" DRIVERS. SUV'S ARE CONSIDERED SAFER SO THEY ARE USED AS EXECUTIVE VEHICLES, THUS IT IS VITAL FOR FORD TO RETROFIT MODELS AS EXECUTIVE VEHICLES. OTHERWISE EXPEDITION IS A RELIABLE VEHICLE AND I AM ON MY THIRD MODEL, TURNING OVER OLDER ONES TO SOME OF OUR SENIOR EXECUTIVES WHO GLADLY PAY FOR THESE KNOWING THE MAINTENANCE IS GOOD.

I bought a 04 expidition 2 wheel drive 4.6 with right at $178,000 miles for 3 grand about a year and a half ago and I lifted it 3 inches put 33 inch 12.50 wide acheilies desert hawk Xtreme mud terrains on it wit 20 inch XD series rims I loaded it down with about 1000 pounds of tools painted it flat black and tinted the windows put a heavy duty off-road brush guard on it that weight bout 300 lb. Drove it threw every swampy mudd hole I could find pulling scrap steel farm equipment out of a swamp hole snatched and snatch and snatched pulling this stuff out litterally broke semi truck rated tow chains. Pulled over a brand new telephone pole like it was nothing pulled trailers loaded down with 3 tons of scrap steel only been stuck twice and once was because the tire dug so deep the truck body litterally sat down on the ground and spun tire while I was trying to pull a 53 foot long shipping container and was chained to it. It took $2000 and 250 feet of logging chain and a huge freightliner to pull me outta that swamp after I cut the chain that held me to the shipping container..... someone stole my catlytic converter and cut them off at the headers and I been running strong with it ever since for bout 8 months now.i put to short of lug nut on the new rims and had both front tires It's loud but sounds beatly and besides a hub assembly and bearing and a alternator and battery I've had zero issues and everything works and I beat the hell out of it and dog it to death and it loves it you touch the key an she's rumbling n ready. Best truck I've ever hand hands down I'm about to hit the 255,000 mile mark and chugging strong I put to small of lug nuts on it at first with the new rims without knowing and broke off all 6 studs on driver's and passenger side and the wheels fell off and I dropped to the rotor twice n wrecked in ditched twice she loved it ate it like candy best truck I ever had and I was raised jateing Ford but between dodge Chevy n Ford n jeep the fords r the only ones that keep going. I love my expidition. Oh and I put after market cold air intake and took the fann shroud off the fender wells out and the plastic motor covers and it eats everything I put it through it does need new shocks and upper control arms n upper ball joins but she's still rumbling

This car has been great. Super smooth and powerful. I can punch it and it goes. The Ford-built transmission is oh so silky smooth. I had on problem with the starter not retracting after starting, but a new starter (400$) solved the problem. I absolutely love the AdvanceTrack AWD. When it rains in Texas I can drive through puddles and on highway without it slipping. I feel damn safe and use it for road trips. The radio is cheesy, but the interior is super comfy and well laid out. The back seat recline and theres leather all around. For a 2004 it's well appointed. Of course newer cars have more high tech, but I really love driving this rig.

I am the second owner of this car at the begining it was great of course spends a lot of gas more than other 8 cyl cars I had. My worse nightmare air suspension light turned on about a year ago spend a lot of money to replaced it twice and since then it still has problems with it. I am trying to fix it to sell it and since I still have issues I haven't been able to do so. My suggestion is get rid of it. NOT MY BEST DEAL :(

My Expedition has 50k miles and has been in to the dealer for service one time. It is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I tow a tow hauler to the dunes once a month and it tows a 6000 pound trailer with ease. It powers up hills and pulls the trailer through the deep sand. Ford makes the best trucks in my eyes.

We loved it until our transmission went out at 40,000 miles. It only had 14,000 miles on it when we purchased it so we have put the bulk of the miles on the truck and we don't use it to pull. Then the more I read about the transmission problems the more I don't want to keep the truck when we get it back. Only good thing is that we are not putting another transmission from Ford in the truck. Going with a Jasper rebuilt transmission that has a 100,000 mile warranty. More than Ford will give you.

This is my second Eddie Baurer Expedition. I was so psyched when I purchased it b/c I loved everything about the interior.- space between 2nd row captain chairs, 3rd row fold down seats, DVD. HOWEVER, I have had too many problems in the last year- new brakes at 23,000 miles, loud clicking sound going from 2WD to AWD(can't find the problem), over- hauled transmission(car was in the shop for 3 weeks I might add). Plus Ford doesn't give out loaner cars. Bummer considering all of the problems I have had in the last year. And we paid $45,000!!!

I loved my '99 XLT 4.6l. It was time to get something new (I had 284000 km and still looked like new). I get better MPG with the 5.4 but about the same performance with the Eddie Bauer (must be heavier with heated/cooled seats, 6 CD, auto A/C, great sound, 3rd row in floor to leave room for the dog, back up alarm and all). Now I can see at night (great improvement). I can hear a whining noise when I apply power (a bit annoying). I was expecting wood trim on the dash at that price. On the road it is a delight to drive. The front suspension feels loose compared to my solid axle on the "99. Lots of brake dust on the wheels but they clean real easy and look great.

Just completed 1 year of ownership. Bought it with 37k and now has 49k. Replaced transmission oil with Royal Purple ATF Max Synthetic oil, also am running 5w30 Royal Purple Synthetic Oil in the crank case. A K&N air filter with cold induction has been installed too. My gas mileage went from mid 15's to mid 17's overnight. On the highway cruising 68mph its around 19mpg. We love the room, the 4x4 and ground clearance is tops here in Michigan too. Our only problem we've had is a rear axle whine that is a common on 03 to 06 Expedition's. The 5.4L pulls strong and runs best on premium fuel. With 4 growing kids this Expedition will be with us for a long time coming.

Had my expedition since 46K miles and now have 155k. Plan on driving her till she drops. Regularly maintained and have almost no unnexpected need for a mechanic. The only thing bad about her is the rear window wiper. The motor quit many moons ago. Windows roll up extremely slow for some reason. Heat and cooling work great and distribute wonderfully. Tows a 21 ft boat with ease. With regular maintenace hopefully, I'll get to 200k.

The Expedition 5.4V8 is powerful and when towing our 2500 lbs. camper you don't even feel it. The ride solid, quiet and very smooth over rough roads. I really like the interior space, layout and appearence. It blows the competition away. The brakes are very strong and provides great stopping even with the 2500 lbs. camper on the back. I test drove all the other big SUVs prior to our purchace, Toyota, GMC, Chevy, etc. prior to our purchace.

POSITIVES: Great room for a family of 4 or 5. Plenty of luggage room for those long family trips. Eddie Bauer's look great with the gold underpackage with pretty much any body color. NEGATIVES: What's up with the brake dust? Wow, let's not skimp on quality brake pads. Also, middle seat in second row should recline with outside passenger seats. Third row seating leather has come unattached and not sure how to have it fixed. Looks crappy like that. Gas mileage is garbage but what can you expect from that large of a vehicle. The a/c fan inside the dash makes a light squealing sounds periodically and I'm sure Ford won't hear it to fix it.

I loved this SUV but I could not get any better than 12 MPG. I was not heavy on the foot. Highway / in-town, did not matter - extremly poor gas milage. I owned a 2001 Expedition XLT with the 4.6L and it did a whole lot better. I thought the 03 would come close, not even. The estimated MPG that Ford puts on the sticker is a LIE. I fortunately sold the SUV and did not lose much money. I will make it up with the difference in my Toyota Sienna - that I am waiting for. You do not have to wait for a Ford Expedition - I wonder why!!!

The brake dirt on front wheels should have been fixed along time ago! The sunroof sounds like a wind tunnel and has been in for unsuccessful repairs. The instument panel is hard to read and the warning panel is in bad area. This is my third and last expedition. The other two were good cars(1997 & 2000). This thing does not tow like the others either!

This vehicle is one of the best i have ever owned. My sister has an older model and when I drove it I told myself that I would never own one. I ended up buying this one and now I am very glad that I did. This is absolutely the most comfortable vehicle that I have ever ridden in. It is amazing how quiet the ride is inside. This has to be one of the best all around vehicles. It is good for family time because of the room and luxury, and when it is time for a couple to have their own time, it is stylish.

when i picked up my fully loaded eddie bauer instantly i wanted to test its capability on the highway and the new independent supension in atlanta's rush hour traffic.on the highway jumping in and out of lanes it showed the car like ajillity. for a minute was drag racing but got upset from the 260 hp engine that had me thinking what the hell am i doing trying to indy 500 a black school bus.on my way home i turned off my automatic climate air and opened my large sunroof let down the windows.i really felt as if i was floating on air until i hit a bump and nearly broke my neck.other than the hard shock and slow engine i really love my new expedition.

I have never been a ford person always a dodge kind of guy. Needed a more family sized suv, durango wasn't cutting it. Love this thing, very roomy, stylish, and powerful. And as far as im concerned the saftey is great. sister had one and rolled it down a 300ft cliff, and it brought my family back to me after the wreak, after that it sold me on them. Granted i have only had it a week but i love this thing. went all the way through it and didnt find anything mechanicly wrong with it exept the rear passenger seat belt dosent work but the place i bought it from said they would replace it for FREE.

Did not want to go back to Ford due to past vehicles with shoddy workmanship. 50 - 70k seemed to be all they were good for (Vs. 217k for a toyota van that never needed any major repair). Could not find an acceptable seating configuration and cargo area with the Sequoia, Escalade, Armada. Cargo room in minivans were a joke. This vehicle is great fun to drive with family of 5 + friends. My ONLY complaints about this vehicle are the horrible gas mileage (currently getting about 11 mpg around town) and the break dust on the front wheels that constanltly keep the wheels looking like I just drove out from a coal road.

We just recently purchased our 2nd Expedition and I have to say, GOOD JOB FORD!! They finally listend to the customers and have delivered an SUV worth the money. The interior space and power fold third row seat make it easy for me and the family to go on the long trips and still have room for our kids.

Ford has done a good job on the interior and the exterior design. Handling is much improved over the '98 and '01 I previously drove, especially the steering. There is much less of what I would describe as a "whip-crack" motion in the '04, when taking curves or changing lanes. Braking is still great, but Ford needs to fix the brake dust issue. The new interior design is comfortable and easy to use. The front seats are more comfortable, and storage is better, as the CD Changer is in the dash. I do miss the inbound storage pockets. You can't use the DVD system and the sat. radio at the same time (bad on long drives). For extreme temp. areas, consider the climate seats.
