Wish I didn't buy it!
We just hit the six month mark & the the car has been back for service twice in the past 2 weeks. We thought it was recalled, then were told our car was not made at the LA factory or in the month for the recall. Had oil change+ tires checked & rotated while there. The very next week the lift gate handle came off into my hands and the inside tailgate panel was loose from the right hand side to the middle. Back it went for service. Now another week later and the tire pressure light is indicating a problem. My previous car was a beloved 2010 Jeep Liberty that NEVER had service other than oil change. I really regret trading such a great vehicle in on this Escape which I now believe is a lemon.UPDATE: Never have we done this so soon after buying a car but we traded in the Escape 8 months after buying it and got a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Love the Grand Cherokee! So glad we got rid of that Escape piece of junk, the Jeep was worth the extra money and hassle of the trade, we love it!

Reliability Nightmare on 2014 Ford Escape 2.0 AWD
Nice looking vehicle that has had many issues. When I was looking for a new vehicle it ended up being between the Toyota Rav4 and the Ford Escape. I wish now that I would have chosen the Rav4. Problems and more problems! It took Ford 1-1/2 years to fix my Escape door that would not always latch shut. At least I think it's fixed now. 2.0 engine has intermittent hesitation that Ford has not been able to resolve. Rear differential noise has been repaired twice in 25,000 miles. Trans slips from 1st to 2nd and sometimes downshifts for no reason. Besides the recalls dealing with Ford customer service is just about as bad as calling my cable company. Continue to experience violent transmission downshifts. From day one my Escape still experiences intermittent hesitation which has caused many close calls making this Escape unsafe to drive.

Wind whistle at highway speed
Would love this car, if not for the fact that it whistles when going over 55. An internet search has shown me that this is an ongoing problem with this model Wish I had seen that first. Have had it to the service department over 7 times, and they cannot fix it. Ford tells me I am out of luck. Do yourself a favor, try a different vehicle.
Do not buy this car
I inherited this car from my father who bought it brand new and it has been the biggest disappointment. My father hardly drove it the two years prior yet right after I took over the car, the warranty was over and the engine completely stopped working. I started getting Engine Fault errors and the car would shake and sort of stall while driving. Very scary! I took it into the dealership and the car was one week past warranty and they said it was wired incorrectly in the factory and would cost me close to $1,000 to repair. It is now approximately 3 months later and the EXACT same scenario is currently taking place. I have had the Engine Fault warning on my car all week and while I don't know the synopsis yet, it's currently at the dealer, I can guarantee it will be another major fix. Last time I called dealership supervisors and managers to try to get them to come down significantly in price since it was clearly a manufacturer error and they conveniently never were available or never called back. I called every day for a month. Needless to say I will be trading this car in and NEVER purchasing a Ford again.

Should be called the Ford Recall
I bought my ford brand new in 2014. I love the way it looks inside and out, very classy with higher end quality of materials. It drives great, love the turbo engine and car holds tight to the road and makes you feel very safe (had a bad experience once driving on ice but then again ice is dangerous no matter what vehicle you are driving). Now the bad........ no storage space in the front. I came from owning 3 Honda CRVs and got used to the space (storage compartments galore along with leg room and head room Etc) Not so much with the Ford Escape. Also, I didn’t have a child when I bought this Ford in 2014. With a car seat in the middle of the back seat, it’s very hard for a normal person to sit without being under the car seat and wedged up against the door. Makes for tricky maneuvering when it’s raining and I’m trying to get him in the car seat without getting drenched. Also, floorboard doesn’t really offer a ton of room for any size bin for toys. I do love having separate heat in the back, although it would be nice to come from the ceiling instead of the middle console. (For backward facing car seats the heat blows right on the back of the car seat 🙄). Another bad thing, I’ve had several recalls, and they’re still coming even though I’ve had the car for almost 5 years now. Coolant, air bags, oil leaks, door latches etc). I was stopped at a Red light one day when an emergency message came on my car to pull over as soon as possible to avoid overheating and engine failure. Of course I was stopped at a light and couldn’t move for a couple minutes but I did manage to make it safely to park. I had to drive home with a sick child and went to the mechanic first thing the next day even though the message went away. I had no coolant (bone dry) and there was no warning that I was even low. That was one of the recalls to install the coolant level detector. Dealer handled that along with a couple more recalls. On another occasion I was driving home and parked in my driveway as it started to rain. I got my son out of the car and went to close the back door and the latch was completely broken. My car would not shut and remember it was raining. My husband came out and literally had to rope tie the car to get the door to close and we drove it straight to Ford and left the keys in the dropbox since it was so late . The next day they fixed it along with another of the recalls, I can never remember what now, maybe an airbag one there were so many. They did not fix any of the other latches so I’m looking forward to those breaking while I’m going down the highway, that is my worst fear. When my car was about 40,000 miles, that’s when I noticed all the coolant problems, The mechanic also told me that the whole oil system was going to need to be replaced soon. Also there was a hose that needed to be replaced, and I thought just a cheap hose right? Well because of the way Ford designed the engine, most of it would have to be removed in order to replace this hose that winds through the engine, so that would be over $400 due to the complexity. I also noticed how hard the battery was to replace when I went to get an oil change and I guess they left the door open and the battery died. They could not figure out how to get the battery out so they jumped my car so I could drive to AutoZone to get a battery. AutoZone could not figure out how to get my battery out either. So they jumped my car so I could drive to NTB. Fortunately they had worked on This model before and let me know they had to take out a lot of the engine to get to the battery. So not user-friendly if I can’t even change my freaking battery myself. Fortunately, beside the recalls, I have not had to repair a lot of items over these five years which is always good. I was just surprised at the number of recalls. You think Ford would be able to figure it out by now. Car is still beautiful and drives really well, just not extremely reliable or easy to maintain yourself. Right now I am trading it in for a vehicle with a third row so I can get more storage.
