I can't believe I bought a Durango...

Our family needed a three row SUV. We tried to downsize to a wagon, but it didn't work. I was charged with all of the research and test driving, and I drove them all. Honda, Mazda, VW, Toyota, etc. Some were too small (Toyota), some offered horrible value (VW), some were too much like a mini-van (Honda). I was getting frustrated with my search. I tried a Ford Explorer and didn't like it at all. I was flummoxed. I had read good things about the 2018 Durango, but I have NEVER been an FCA fan, and swore I would never buy one. Then...I test drove the Durango GT. Just wow. Solid, big, handled well, and quiet as a mouse inside. I did some more research. It rides on a relative of the GL/ML platform from when Daimler Benz owned part of Chrysler (so does the Grand Cherokee). The 8-speed automatic is sourced from ASIN, the same place that BMW and other high-end manufacturers get their trannys. The handling is excellent, primarily due to the perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and the rear-wheel bias (its a RWD car when it doesn't need the traction). The Durango is so air-tight that you really need to give the door a good slam, otherwise the air pressure prevents the door from closing. I thought the Beats audio system was terrible, but like many good speakers (I am an audiophile) the system needed to break in, and stretch the speakers a bit. I think it sounds very good now (not Levinson good, but certainly better than any Bose system). If you have been skeptical of the FCA brand in the past (let's face it there's plenty of reason to be) , but you need a good sized SUV, you HAVE to drive the Durango. It won't disappoint.

Revisit to the brand

We are loyal Jeep owners and love them. However, since Jeep doesn't offer a bigger SUV than the Grand Cherokee (at the moment) we looked at every third row crossover on the market. After driving the Telluride, Atlas, Pilot, Traverse, Ascent, Pathfinder, and Highlander we were frustrated because non of those vehicles really made us fall in love enough to purchase them. We decided to revisit the Durango and we were pleasantly surprised with the face lift of the 2019 models, the ride quality, and the towing capability. We were looking at the V6 GT but ended up with the R/T with the hemi. Captains chairs are the key feature that brought us back to the Durango. I am happy we didn't overlook this vehicle. It's beautiful.

Durango GT

I read reviews and watched videos of test drives for months. I narrowed my top 2 choices to the Nissan Murano and the Dodge Durango. After owning the Murano for a year I was disappointed by visibility and leg room for the driver. The infotainment screen was also lame. I traded it in and bought a 2018 Durango GT. The Durango has 295 hp with the V6 compared to 260 on the Murano. The acceleration is similar due to the Durango heavier weight. The V6 actually provides good acceleration and I've seen numbers as low as 7.4 seconds for 0-60 compared to the R/T which is 6.8 seconds 0-60 from test results I've read, those numbers are both impressive but not much different. Whoever rates the Durango less than 4 stars overall obviously has no clue. I've driven many SUV's and I'll tell you I was skeptical of Dodge. Now I am a huge Dodge fan. I love the spacious interior and comfy seats with 4 way adjustable lumbar support. I love the touch screen, it's 8.4 inches of stunning beauty and functionality and it's easy to use. I love the styling. The red stitching on the black leather. The magnesium paddle shifters. The grip on the leather wrapped steering wheel. Honestly the only criticisms I've seen

Great car if you know what you are getting into. Engine is loud and thirsty, but is part of having a super fast tow and family vehicle that is faster than my Porsche in a straight line. We checked every luxury and tech box. After a few initial set up gremlins, things have been going fine

My 2nd Tahoe was about done after 184K miles. before that I had 2 Blazers, 2 Grand Cherokees, and a Land Rover. So I decided being 60 this would be my last car, I had good luck with the Jeeps and my son had a beautiful 2018 SRT Durango so I went back to Dodge, but I got a Journey and that was a mistake. It was a great little car, but having built hot rods and being a car guy, i was wrong thinking I was ready to settle down and wanted to get something sporty, not an old mans car, so after 7 months and 5600 miles, I traded the Journey at the dealer ship my family has used for years, and where i had bought it and got a Durango R/T and am so very glad I did. it is the best and most enjoyable car to drive I have ever owned. Fun to drive, handles great, comfortable, fast, sporty, tons of room and just plain sexy. I am constantly getting comments from strangers and friends alike on it, more compliments than hot rods I had built. I cannot recommend it enough, if you want something fun to drive, go test drive one and you will be sold...

The Durango hands down is superb I’ve always had a suburban but this vehicle is the best. With all the immenities I got a new suburban would have been well over 2x the price I paid. If this vehicle had Jeep label they wouldn’t be able to keep them on the lot.Dodge has really got a keeper I absolutely love mine.Dodge Durango Gt 6 cylinder, leather, moon roof has it all for under $40;000.

Radio does not work

The radio has not worked since delivery. Dealership says there are no radios available to replace with. After having talked to many different dealerships about the problem, i was informed the original manufacturer of the radio had its contract cancelled and now Dodge is unable to replace the radios in any of the 2018 Durangos. Nice new Durango that has a faulty radio. Radio controls front and rear climate, all Blue tooth capabilities and safety features.

Finally a well thought out American SUV

2018 Dodge Durango Citadel 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)

I've been thinking about gravitating back to an American built vehicle for some time now and finally found a well built technological up to date vehicle with my recent purchase of my 2018 Durango Citadel. The fit and finish is excellent, seat comfort is 5 star, ride is amazingly quiet and the technology equipped surpasses the Asian market. The V6 is unbelievably quiet smooth with excellent power and reasonable gas mileage. The 8 speed transmission shifts incredibly smooth with hardly a notice of shifting. I have found my Citadel to be very reliable comfortable and good looking, love the vice white paint job. The 8.4 Navigation screen and functionality is the best on the market its fast clear and precise. If I have any gripes it would be these two. (1st) I dislike the start/stop function (very annoying) at least you can disable it at start up. (2nd) A minor gripe but a gripe never the less you have to press the Navigation icon then view map icon each time you start the vehicle if you want to view the map... This vehicle is definitely a road trip SUV it love's the highway gobbles up the miles in total comfort and affords you with an excellent view of you surroundings. In the city it handles the roads like a much smaller vehicle than it actually is. It's certainly a win / win for handling. It rides and handles like a more expensive vehicle than it actually is. If you are on the fence about which SUV to buy you would be doing yourself a injustice if you did not give the Durango a try... Now 20 months later and 22,000 miles my Durango continues to impress. No issues whatsoever 26 mpg highway and combination averaging 21.5 mpg. I must say I had I am impressed beyond belief how rock solid reliable the SUV has been. I just want to repeat a statement from my first review over a year and a half ago the Durango is a perfect road trip vehicle gobbling up the miles effortlessly with superior comfort... I hope they don't make to many changes in the future because they seemed to have nailed it with the 2018 Durango Citadel.

Best Vehicle-Utility & Performance for 9 Months

2018 Dodge Durango SRT 4dr SUV AWD (6.4L 8cyl 8A)

The first 9 months and almost 9,000 miles of owning the 2018 Durango SRT were having me think I had purchased the perfect vehicle. Everything I wanted in performance and utility was there. Then all of a sudden it left me and two of my friends stranded. The transmission froze in neutral but all four wheels were locked. We tried everything we could think of to put it in Drive to no avail. I had it towed in to the Dodge dealership - Mike Brown - in Granbury where I bought it. They had it one week and when I went to pick it up told me they had replaced the valve body on the transmission and re-flashed the transmission control module. But they told me it was ready. I picked it up and I immediately noticed the quite erratic shifting of the transmission. I took it back to the dealership. They advised me that the valve body would take about one to two weeks to resume normal shifting. So I took it home. About a week later, I was on my way to the grocery store when I noticed the transmission had frozen on 5th gear and the Active Cruise Control service light had momentarily flashed on. I headed for the dealership, about 35 miles away. As I approached the last red light in Benbrook headed towards Granbury on US 377, the vehicle shifted to neutral on its own and the shifter could not be moved. I let it coast to the side of the road. I turned off the engine, waited a few seconds, and turned it back on. The vehicle begin normal operations but the erratic shifting continued. I left it at the dealership. After one week with the vehicle, they had no idea what the problem was. I, in the meantime, had lost total confidence in the vehicle and asked the dealership to buy it back from me. They bought it back from me at a significant loss to me. In short, what I thought was the perfect vehicle for the first 9 months of trouble free ownership, turned out to be the worst vehicle I have ever owned, and I have owned a considerable number of vehicles in my 71 years of living. The dealership offered me a reasonable price on a brand new Durango SRT, but I turned them down. I do not trust the vehicle. I remain without any Dodge product in my garage. I simply do not feel I can trust Dodge to give me a reliable vehicle that gets me home from my destination. Being a long time Honda and Corvette owner I was simply not used to erratic reliability. Chrysler (FCA) did not respond in any way to encourage my confidence in their products and also ensure that I remain a loyal customer, so I simply decided to walk and spend my money elsewhere. In fact, FCA said to me that it was out of their hands since I had sold the vehicle back to the dealership. Sure made me feel better. I finally got a Cadlillac CT6 Blackwing and so far, I am satisfied with it. No more Dodge or FCA products for me. My experiment with them is over when I got rid of my Durango.

Love the outside look with the viper inspired hood, satin rims and doble tip exhaust. Comfort is great, I am 5’8” and fit comfortably in the 3rd row. Love the sound of the engine and how it really move this SUV beast. Best of all is that even-though you have the space it does not feel like a huge boat in the road. Proud owner here!....ohhh, and I also have a Grand Cherokee limited.

I am coming from a 2016 GMC Canyon SLE V6. For a V6 Durango I felt like there was no big difference from the RT V8 version when test driving and it has more power then my GMC Canyon. Large screen entertainment system with beats speakers, sunroof, SRT hood, 20” rims (black top edition) leather with suede in the middle, power lift gate and remote start. all under 39k with haggling. I went and got this SUV to keep forever with a growing family and that lifetime warranty provided by Mopar is just the best peace of mind

It's hard to find a three-row SUV that is -FUN-

With a growing family, I needed to get something a little bit larger than my Subaru Outback when we go on weekend road trips. I've rented dozens of vehicles for work and have always been impressed with the power and comfort from FCA's models (except the 200), but have been hesitant to purchase due to reliability concerns. So when I decided to get a three row SUV, the Durango was on my short list. I tested a bunch of vehicles and my wife agreed that the VW Atlas and the Durango were the best of the bunch. I have 30,000 miles on my 2018 GT and have been happy overall with the vehicle. The trouble areas have been 1- the vehicle fuel filler system is terrible. It will cut off when using certain pumps, I've had the fuel filler neck and the vapor canister replaced, it is a little better but still not perfect. 2- there have been various sensors that needed to be "plugged back in" according to the dealership. This includes the auto start/stop system sensor and the heated steering wheel sensor. 3- the taillight has already filled with water, this is being replaced under warranty but has me concerned about the future. The Durango is a -BLAST- to drive. The pickup is fantastic, the handling is better than most vehicles of this size, and the exterior style is macho and unlike anything else out there. I'd recommend this vehicle to others as long as you get an extended MOPAR warranty.

I looked around at a lot of different SUV's. Overall I LOVED the comfort, styling and value of my new Durango when compared to the other brands. My top priority in addition to functionality was safety. I loved how the Technology package brings that all together for an affordable cost. In addition to all the innovative technology I have a vehicle that is great to look at and fun to drive. Thanks Dodge for another great vehicle!

Having had 2 back surgeries the Durango seats won over the Chevy Traverse and Ford Explorer seats. I find the V6 paired with the 8 speed tranny has plenty of performance, that is, if you are not trying to make a full sized SUV crossover into a sports car. Also the rear drive gives it a nice towing capacity of 6200 pounds. Durango has a unibody construction with a car oriented 4 wheel independent suspension with no truck like rear leaf springs. I persoanally believe you cannot beat the Durango for the money. I got the new 2019 model SXT for 26,500 out the door. Drives more like a car than a truck. If you are going for great gas milage, get a Prius. I have been a Ford owner for over 20 years so this was a stretch for me to try a Dodge product...glad I did.

Dodge Durango RT - Love It

SpringfieldGuy, 03/24/2020
2019 Dodge Durango R/T 4dr SUV AWD (5.7L 8cyl 8A)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

I own a black 2019 Dodge Durango RT. I’ve had it 10 months and have driven it 17,500 miles. I love this vehicle. It is the third Durango I've owned. I had a 2011 Crew with V6, a 2011 Citadel with V8, and now the RT with V8. For me, it is the perfect size SUV. It has plenty of legroom in all three rows but its length fits nicely in my garage. I always have the third seat down to carry various work materials. The storage area behind the second row is about the same horizontal dimensions as the larger Ford Explorer. Many of the higher-price Euro models of similar exterior size can’t match its cargo area. The frame was developed when Chrysler/Dodge was owned by Mercedes-Benz and all three of my Durangos have been completely squeak and rattle-free. The V8 with 8-speed tranny gives it quick acceleration for an SUV. It has an electronic stick transmission in the console, which returned in 2018 after the bewildering change to a rotary shift knob in 2014. Dodge finally listened to its customer base and got rid of it. The exhaust rumble sounds great when accelerating but is quiet at cruising speed. It is hard to drive the RT slow! Mileage isn’t great, which was no surprise, but the power of this vehicle and its looks are worth it. If it dropped about 300 pounds, it would lower the 0-60 time and increase mileage significantly. I get around 20-21 mpg on interstate driving and about 17.5 mpg overall. The RT sport suspension is stiffer than my Citadel but it handles bumpy pavement pretty well, and allows cornering at much higher speeds than the Citadel. The interior ergonomics work well. The 8” touchscreen radio/Navigation system is pretty intuitive to learn and use. One of the best in the industry. I added an aftermarket CD-player because the OEM version left little room for console storage. The Harman/Kardon sound system is nice. I’ve grown to love the heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control and wouldn’t do without them on future vehicles. The leather seats have heating and cooling; the second-row seats are heated. In my opinion, it’s best looking SUV on the market. The short front overhang, long wheelbase, and larger rear overhang (due to 3rd row seat) give it the perfect profile proportions. I have the satin carbon 5-spoke wheels (standard on the RT), which add to the beauty of the RT styling. I plan to keep this vehicle for awhile because of its functionality, speed and looks.

Glitch in the touchscreen/radio where it shuts down and restarts randomly and repeatedly. This also means you can't have a hands free phone call as it drops the call when the system restarts. Started on the drive home but here I am 60 days later and no repair date in sight. The dealership just keeps telling me that all the 2018's have this issue and it will be fixed next week but next week still hasn't come. I know new products can have issues but not getting the truth has me frustrated and unhappy with this purchase. If I could get my money back I would return the vehicle and not buy from this dealer nor Dodge again.

The steering wheel on the driver seat wouldn’t go back to drivers position had to restart the vehicle ... but other than that it is what it is Thirsty fun car to get your groceries in !! 50,000 miles in second radio, brake rotors lost color dodge says they still work won’t warranty faded paint . Really like this SUV. Has a lot of power and it looks great. Haven't had it for long so I can't comment on any problems because there aren't any. I really disliked the purchasing process of it. The dealership aspect really put me off ever wanting to purchase a new car again however. But other than that, I am very pleased with it.

The R/T is a performance SUV. Interior leather finish is excellent. The dual exhaust has a throaty sound that my wife and I both loved. The 8 speed transmission is the smoothest shifting automatic transmission I have ever experienced. We don't have small children so it was mainly my wife and I driving, the backseat seems roomy enough for average adults.

2018 Dodge Durango SXT 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
3 of 3 people found this review helpful

Leased a 2018 Durango SXT Plus in January 2019 - will buy out at end of lease as I like the vehicle a lot. V6 AWD with 3rd row, tow package, and blacktop package. Tows boat and trailers very well (~2500lbs) - don't really notice. Just wish you could keep it out of 8th gear to keep it from hunting without having to shift "manually" on hills. Rear seatbelt is a bit tough to get to latch (will get repaired under warranty) and front visibility is a problem in that the rearview mirror is low and can "hide" vehicles to your right at 4-way stops. Gets gas mileage similar to our 2018 Grand Caravan but power (295hp) is noticeably better and way more fun to drive. AWD is really nice in winter. Would definitely recommend - what other vehicle can you get in for the price and seat capacity of a minivan (SXT package, that is) but have 6,200lb tow capacity (or for bump in price get the 8,700 if V8 which outclasses full frame SUVs like Tahoe and Suburban)?

2019 Durango rt

Bought the blacktop package rt for the looks and the power. The rt is surprisingly quick for how big it is and even more surprising for how well it handles. Very comfortable and if you want can sound crazy aggressive depending on how you drive. Only con so far is the gas mileage when I drive aggressively which is expected with the hemi engine. If considering an SUV definitely give this one a test drive, the driving experience along with the infotainment system, and sound system is a plus as well. No problems so far as I was skeptical buying, dodge vehicles aren't known for there reliability. Long story short, this thing with the 5.7 hemi picks up well, handles surprisingly well and sounds great when you want it to, definitely recommend test driving if you're in the market for an SUV.

Problems inside and out from the get go!

Had issues since I bought it 3 weeks ago. It has been in the dealership twice to have the same repairs fixed since they just tried to hide the paint touch ups done by the dealership. And then broke a piece while installing a new taillight. The last problem was the Uconnect radio rebooting and all the features not being able to be controlled. If I had a choice to return it and get another vehicle I would if I wouldn’t be taking such a loss in value. I have 1300 miles on it and the value went from $57k at purchasing and was quoted just $34k to trade it in! That’s a large depreciation with just 1000 miles that I personally put on the vehicle since I bought it with 383 miles

First I want to disclaim that this is my third Durango I purchased within last 7 years First one was 2014 limited V8 Second was 2016 RT And this my third one 2019 RT I’ll try to be unbiased, the car is one of a kind intern of driving feel and fun on 7 seats category, yes heavy but monster of the highway. Extreme handling on corners that rare to find in peers. Very responsive engine and above that it seats 7. Seats very comfortable even better than my X5 2019. Cons: if you don’t take care of your feet on gas paddle they fuel consumption likely to catch high borders, you can mitigate this by keep calm and avoid heavy press, but if your gas is your highest priority then Durango is not your choice.

We picked out our Dodge Durango RT to fix 3 boys, my wife and myself. We chose the 6 passenger model so the boys could step to the 3rd row. This has worked out great. Amazingly the 5.7 Hemi gets us over 20 miles to the gallon (when my wife drives it), yet when I do get to drive the Sport Mode makes this full size SUV accelerate and drive more like a sports car. All around very good SUV and extremely functional for a 5 member family that is active with sports.

I have a 2019 RT ,its grey with red leather interior, just beautiful. I had a 2011 durango crew traded that in for a 2014 limited just got in a 2019 RT. The Gas mileage gave a shock . I was getting over 440 miles to a tank with the V6 engine no where close to that with the V8 hemi. Also the ride is a lot rougher with the RT you need a stiffer suspension I get it but those are my only cons with the vehicle. I have been driving a Durango since 2011 and I just love them the Rt is fun to drive it looks great and offer up tons of power on demand. The sport button is another option for more power.

So far so good..knock on wood..so far only notice a clicking sound in front when you do a cold start but than stops after a min or so. Hard to explain but On a turn going about 20 to 30 mph back end tends to jump just before it straightens out. Have about 1300 miles give or take.. leased it for 3 years in January now June.. hopefully no major problems until my lease is up..Fingers crossed..waiting for some snow nothing this year will C for 2020 how it handles in 4 inches or more in snow!!

I like this vehicle but have noticed some issues and currently it has about 31k miles. The touchscreen has issues sometimes and doesn’t turn on when I start the car or it has randomly cut out and then come back while driving. Guessing it’s loose wiring. Biggest issue was coolant leak. Refilled it, 2 days later it was completely empty. The way one of the hoses was clamped caused it to rub radiator hose with any engine movement so they had to take out the engine just to replace it.

I bought two FCA rides with Bitcoin. Would have never considered a Dodge or Jeep had they not accepted Bitcoin. The Durango Citadel 5.7L V8 is pure awesome. Owned Japanese cars for the last decade and I am now a MOPAR convert. We love the Durango, the level of build quality Dodge had achieved is fantastic. Make sure to get the beautiful growling V8 while they still exist - be ready to buy Sheetz gift cards but totally worth it. Reliability remains to be seen but with a 7 year warranty not worried at all. Wife loves it, kids love it, mission accomplished. Now just waiting for daddy's Trackhawk to arrive.

I bought this vehicle used with 60k miles, fist month the purge hose split, then everything seemed good, then the backup camera stopped working and the radio had no volume, then driving through 3 inch of snow the front cv axle broke, now I have it tore down do to manufacture placement on a heater hose clamp that rubbed through the aluminum tubing to the rear heater and there is no possible way to reach the clamp to move it. Don't buy this car it will cost you lots of money in the long run, never buying a dodge again, pure junk.

Usually I’ve driven Chargers, but due to the increase in grandkids, I needed a bit more room for my precious cargo. This SUV is just pure eye candy! I one happy grandma💕

The Durango has a beautiful screen good technology and the fine Hemi engine. Many of the 2019 Durango’s have the 3.6 engine which for such a large suv must be a let down. The suv gives a rather hemmed in feeling and interiors have dingy black headliners and still some cheap plastics. There is a lean when going into curves and even with the Hemi has a somewhat clumsy feel to it. It is not a well balanced vehicle and has very poor resale. I’d advise driving some of the foreign suvs which handle much better and are less tiring to drive!

I bought a new 2019 Dodge Durango SXT. I had no problems with power. My one trip on the Alaskan highway from Anchorage to Kenai was a steady 25 MPG. Not bad. The only problem was the dealer who sold it to me said it would tow 6200 lbs. After reading the manual, I found the ONLY Durango's that tow that much are the ones that come with the tow package. After talking to the dealer, they bought mine back at a bit of a loss to me, and ordered the one with the tow package. I did tow a 6000 lb trailer to Seward through mountains and such without a tow package, and it did just fine. No problems going through the mountains. I loved the first one. Can't wait to get the one I ordered as I have a 4100 lb (dry) RV to tow. I'm sure it will do just fine.
