A Cadillac Inside of a Chevy !

SNM, Norwalk, OH, 05/19/2018
2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
This is the nicest Chevrolet Sedan ever produced when considering the new technology features, ride, handling and size. I thought the Impala was the "king", but the GM engineers will have to up their game to surpass the new Malibu Premier. With the new 9 speed automatic transmission you can't tell when the gears are shifting, and the engine is very smooth, quiet and powerful. It makes … the car feel nimble and fun to drive. Additionally, the gas mileage looks like it will be great ( 35 + MPG) on the highway. The interior is exceptional and this car just has the looks and feel of a high end luxury vehicle. If you are looking for one don't mess around. Find a Premier with the Driver Confidence Packages. You will not be disappointed. Update 11/22/18 ----Just drove home from a 1 hour highway trip with our Malibu. It is 28 degrees out and our gas mileage is still terrific (aprx. 40 MPG / Highway). Combined with the awesome heated seats, steering wheel and the tight/quiet road handling feel this continues to be a great car for us. The engine torque of the 2 liter turbo engine and 9 speed transmission is also remarkable in that when going up and down hills it maintains a steady cruise control speed without downshifting or jerking to compensate for a changing terrain -- very remarkable ! When combined with the navigation, crash avoidance, parking and lane keep features, this car is just awesome. Just like the sales person told us, this car will do everything but make breakfast ! I did try some of the competitors vehicles, but I'm glad I bought this one. Update 11/26/19 ----This Malibu Premium is still a great vehicle. We are still getting used to the many features that are available. The ride remains tight, quiet and powerful. The Bose radio is excellent, and the gas mileage isl way above the EPA estimates (33 highway). No recalls. No issues. It is just a great vehicle as promised. One additional feature, the I06 Navigation system is terrific. It continues to work just as nice as it did thru the normal free trial period, only finally there is something that works as promised without having to pay a monthly fee. Keep it up GM ! With these types of vehicles you may see a gain in market share. SNM Update 11/28/20 --- This vehicle is still awesome. We still like all of the features and the side, front and rear sensors keep us away from other vehicles and objects. The gas mileage is also still great. It is also nice to know the features in this car are still up to date with the brand new models. If you want to buy a used one, the 2017 and 2018 Premier models are the ones you want. Update 5/30/21 -- Our Malibu Premier is still as nice, tight and quiet as new. Additionally, now as gas prices are escalating the gas mileage of this car really shines (35mpg +). There have been NO problems, just an awesome driving vehicle. Still the best value and features in mid size vehicles. Update 12/2/22 ---Our Malibu Premier still rides and drives like new. It also still delivers great gas mileage. We just don't see anything in the current market that can compare, and that is a good feeling ! Update 6/2/23 --- This vehicle is just as nice, tight and quiet as it was when it was new. It is perfect when also considering the 35+ mpg combined warm weather gas mileage. I know GM is going to dis-continue this vehicle soon, so the only remaining sedan in their lineup will be the Cadillac models. I hope they reconsider as this vehicle is a star.

Great looks but horrible noise

Marion, 04/07/2018
2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
The noise level on most roads makes it impossible to clearly hear the radio and anyone talking. The noise drops on smooth asphalt. There it the wind merely sounds like the trunk is open or one of the back windows is partially down. I’ve driven Chevrolet vehicles for 50 years and this is by far the most poorly engineered.

It is a KEEPER

2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
I leased the 2017 Premier . It has the Pearl White Paint and it was sadly , the last Malibu on the dealers lot that day . I just needed a car and did not want to shop all over the place , so, the Premier was IT . It has been a solid , trouble free car for sure . The 2 Liter Turbo gives it enough get up and go . The interior is OK . A bit too much plastic for an approx $ 35,000 car . I … like the full moon roof and ample trunk space with the seats folded down . Good room in the back seat and USB ports as well . The My Link info system is good and easy to use . I especially like the larger screen set into the dash . All the new cars have what appears to be a laptop stuck on the top of the dash . That totally turns me off and ruins what could be a nice looking car . The wheels are big which really hugs the road . However, I got a flat and it was over $ 400 to replace a tire . The pearl paint really looks great when the car is clean and waxed . The drive is smooth and the speakers are adequate but not as good as they could be . I love all the safety features that come standard . My lease is up January 21 , and after looking high and low for a new vehicle . I think I am just gong to keep my 2017 Chevy Premier . The new ones offer nothing that I do not already have on this car with only 22,000 miles on it . I would recommend the Premier to anyone looking for a nice styled, good looking and driving auto . I have certainly been happy with mine

You learn to love it

The interior could be of better quality. The turbo 2.0 and the automatic transmission is a great fit.

Edmunds Summary Review of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier Sedan

Pros & Cons

  • Pro:Spacious interior with tall-person-friendly front seats
  • Pro:Fuel-efficient Hybrid also has respectably brisk acceleration
  • Pro:Responsive and intuitive 8-inch touchscreen interface
  • Pro:Sporty handling around turns
  • Con:Mediocre acceleration from base 1.5-liter engine
  • Con:Some low-speed lurches from the six-speed transmission
  • Con:Base L trim is too sparsely equipped
  • Con:Limited outward visibility

Which Malibu does Edmunds recommend?

The Malibu LT with the Convenience and Technology package is well-priced and gets you a nice assortment of luxuries, though we're not big fans of the 1.5-liter engine. Happily, the Malibu Hybrid is equipped similarly to the LT, and it too can be outfitted with the Convenience and Technology package.

What’s new

Chevrolet has discontinued the feature-heavy 2LT trim and replaced the Premier trim level's previous eight-speed automatic transmission with a new nine-speed automatic. Otherwise, the Chevrolet Malibu is unchanged for 2017.

Vehicle overview

If you're searching for a roomy midsize sedan that's also stylish, the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu fits the bill. It's got a sharp new look that's backed up by a refined driving experience, and there's also an available Hybrid model with superior fuel economy. The Chevrolet Malibu was redesigned for 2016, so this marks the second year of its current generation. The previous-generation Malibu spanned the years 2013 to 2015.

2017 Chevrolet Malibu models

The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan is offered in four main trim levels: L, LS, LT and Premier. The Hybrid is a stand-alone trim level.

The base L is indeed pretty basic. It comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (160 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque), a six-speed automatic transmission, 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry and ignition, cruise control, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, OnStar, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a six-speaker audio system. Notably, Bluetooth streaming audio is not provided.

You'll likely be happier with the LS and its 16-inch alloy wheels, laminated (i.e., quieter) side windows and windshield, 4G LTE connectivity with mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, and the MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen that includes smartphone integration.

Upgrading to our recommended choice, the LT trim, will also get you 17-inch wheels, heated mirrors, an eight-way power driver seat, rear climate vents and satellite radio.

We like the Hybrid, too, because it's essentially comparable to the LT in terms of equipment and additionally boasts a gas-electric hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor (for a combined 182 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque).

If you can swing it, we recommend opting for the Convenience and Technology package, which includes remote ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging and two additional USB charging ports. This also opens the door for the Leather package, which adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a six-way power passenger seat (with power lumbar) and a nine-speaker Bose audio system.

Or if you just want to get everything, the Premier includes all of the above features plus a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque), a nine-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels, upgraded exterior styling details, ventilated front seats, driver memory settings, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and a navigation system.

Trim tested

There are typically multiple versions of each vehicle, although many aspects are shared. The ratings in this review are based on our full test of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Premier Sedan (2.0L 4-cyl. Turbo 8-speed Automatic).

Driving

4.0
The current Chevrolet Malibu is a bold step forward for this previously disappointing family sedan. Its long-distance comfort and capable performance are what you expect for the segment, while its sharp handling and available advanced hybrid powertrain are standout elements.

Comfort

4.0
The Malibu's ride is smooth and composed, and it deals well with rough roads and undulations. Some might also describe it as firm, but that doesn't make it uncomfortable — it's just not a Camry-esque couch. Strong air-conditioning, and the seats and interior quietness won't disappoint.

Interior

3.5
The Malibu benefits from a pleasant, modern and uncluttered dashboard design and a simple layout of controls. Its space is on par with most in the segment, which means there's an abundance of it. The Accord's best-in-segment backseat is just incrementally better.

Utility

If you have stuff to carry around — big or small — the Malibu is far from the best family sedan. The trunk is simply average, and the various interior bins are not ideal for the smartphones and the odds and ends we all carry around these days.

Technology

The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu might have as much available technology as any car in the segment, with most trims including a MyLink touchscreen interface, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, onboard Wi-Fi and the range of OnStar services. A full gamut of high-tech driver aids is also available.
