What is the Sequoia?
The Toyota Sequoia is a three-row SUV that received a long-awaited redesign for 2023. Since it was just redesigned, we expect the 2024 Toyota Sequoia to carry over without changes. The modern upgrades to the new-generation Sequoia immensely improved it compared to the outgoing version.
The Sequoia has a body-on-frame architecture along with a modern boxy exterior that gives this family hauler an aggressive look. It employs a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 hybrid powertrain that produces 437 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque and it's backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain setup delivers crisp power, a big improvement over the previous powerplant. Rear-wheel drive comes standard on all trims save the TRD Pro, which is solely four-wheel-drive, and 4WD is an option on all other trims.
On the inside, the Sequoia offers plenty of modern tech including wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior is refined with improved materials and a 14-inch touchscreen that sits prominently in the center of the dashboard. Space is not a problem in the Sequoia, but we did encounter tight headroom and an uncomfortable seating position in the third row. Although the Toyota Sequoia competes in a segment with other great options, it currently offers more power and better fuel economy than other large SUVs.
