Couldn’t be happier!

I’ve been eyeing the Highlander since they redesigned it in 2020. I opted for the Limited AWD trim with the optional 12 inch screen and bench seats. I am completely blown away on how amazing it is to drive the Highlander. Visibility is great but with the bigger screen you also get birds eye view which will definitely help assess your surroundings. The safety features are awesome and the little things like intuitive climate control are nice. I was worried about access into the third row and comfort but my 12 year old is happy with it. The middle row does slide up giving more leg room to the third row. I came from a minivan so I am used to a lot of cargo room and low entry. If you will be using the third row consistently I recommend getting the cross bars and on roof cargo storage to maximize what you can carry, and if you are transporting smaller kids/adults the step up may be just slightly too high for them but running boards can be installed.

WHAT HAVE I DONE? - THE VERDICT IS STILL OUT

2021 Toyota Highlander Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

A few months ago, my wife purchased a 2021 Highlander Platinum. I loved it so much that I traded in my Lexus, however, not wanting to pay for a Platinum, I bought an XLE. After four days, I took it back to the dealership because the seat killed my back. The wife's Platinum had not caused a similar problem even after two long vacation trips. So, I traded the XLE in on a Platinum. When we drove it home we noticed a "ping" in the motor. My wife's engine was/is very quiet. When I asked the dealership why mine was noisy and her car was not, they told me to bring it in and they would check it out. "Metal shavings in the engine," I was told. I was also told that Toyota would put in a new engine. But Toyota says that it was a "rod bearing failure" and they would only "replace the rods". I filed a complaint with Toyota and every contact with them has been disappointing. They told me on numerous occasions they would call me but only once did I get a call from one of them. All other contacts were because I called them. Today, one representative told me that she had previously called me (not true) and that she had given me her personal extension (not true). They promised me that I would have a car comparable to a Platinum for a required trip. No car! No call!! No explanations!!! Now, they are having a problem with getting in the necessary parts for the "repair." I bought my first Toyota 41 years ago and have had about 18 in the forty-one years. I have lost my faith in Toyota. Now, that I read the above reviews I am panicked. I spent $120,000 in cars in five months and I know I have one piece of junk - maybe two!

Bought the 2021 Highlander limited with optional 12.3 inch screen and 2nd row bench seat. I won’t lie, I absolutely love this car though it’s not perfect. I’m getting 23.7 mpg with 95-98% city driving. Much better than I expected. Engine and transmission are extremely quiet and smooth. I sometimes think I’m still driving my Outback with the cvt transmission. The interior is spectacular. I find the seating very comfortable. I’m 5’9” and can’t imagine how anyone couldn’t get comfortable, but still I’ve read complaints. The technology works. The 2021 has the new 2.5 safety sense and i have no complaints. All safety systems work great. I love that the auto engine off can be controlled by how hard you press the brake pedal. Excellent idea that works flawlessly. Ok here are my nit picks. The gas pedal, floor board and steering wheel could be dampened just a little bit more. Their very good, but could be just a tiny bit better. Many people have complained about wind noise. My car is very quiet unless there is high winds outside. Theres been around 8mph wind this week and the car is very quiet. Last week in 25-35 mph winds the car gave a lot of wind noise on the highway. Check the car on the highway before you buy. The windshield has some reflections of the dash if your facing the sun. These are all extremely minor nit picking and I would buy the car again in an instant. I love my highlander. One year later: I still like my HIGHLANDER a lot and agree with my original statements above with one change. I have come to not like steering. It seems looser than it should and to easy to turn the wheel. In sport mode it stiffens up, but I drive mostly in economy mode. Gas mileage has averaged 21.7 in mostly city driving.

I bought a 2021 Toyota Highlander Platinum Hybrid. Love the space of the car and the great gas mileage. But I do not recommend getting a Highlander until they fix the whistling noise. Which at times can be very shrill. It will drive you crazy. I am at the point of trading kine in for a different vehicle as I am in my car too much to have to listen to a whistling sound most of the day.
