BANGKOK — The 2014 Mitsubishi Attrage — the rechristened Mitsubishi Mirage — will be launched in Thailand in July.

Mitsubishi said the Attrage name is derived from the word "attractive," but it appears to be a blend of that word and Mirage.

Mitsubishi earlier said its B-segment global car will go on sale in the U.S. in September. It is unclear whether the U.S. version will be equipped with the 76-horsepower, 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine used in the Attrage sold in Thailand and other markets. The engine is linked to a continuously variable transmission or a five-speed manual transmission.

The Mitsubishi Attrage targets the Honda Civic, Hyundai Accent and Nissan Sentra, among others.

Mitsubishi is expected to build hybrid and electric cars off the Attrage platform. The Mitsubishi Concept G4, which previewed the Attrage, made its world debut at the 2013 Bangkok Auto Show.

Edmunds says: Will the Attrage name be attractive to U.S. consumers? Or should Mitsubishi have stuck with Mirage?

This would not compete with the Civic or the Sentra. Try again. This would be a Fit, Yaris, Versa, Fiesta, Accent, Rio, Spark, ect... competition.

Did someone at the factory put the spare tire on the rear?

Attrage? Really? I know this is subjective, but if you think this vehicle is ATTractive, you're looking at a miRAGE.

The Mirage will be sold in Canada and with Suzuki leaving should help generate more sales. The hatchback Mirage unveiled at the Edmonton Motorshow looks quite good. Certainly not in the same league as the Fiesta, Fit or Spark. But there will be buyers.
