2015 S60 T5

I recently finished a lease of a 2012 S60 that I loved. The 2015.5 is even better. I had an incredibly hard time finding a better overall value. The fuel efficiency, performance, price and feature mix is tough to beat.

Great Vehicle with a few quirks

My 2015.5 T5 has been pretty good the last 150k miles. Great acceleration, decent mileage, and good parking sensors (at least on the Platinum trim). Being able to squeeze 240 hp out of a mild-hybrid 4-cyl engine is genuinely impressive. No matter what--even when I've driven with broken parts--it’s a smooth ride. A good vehicle with main components that last a while, especially given it lived in the Rust Belt most of it's life. I’ve heard the ones with the 2.5 AWD engine are much much more reliable, as this was really the first S60 to implement a “Drive-E” 4-cyl engine. We originally got a lemon of an engine (dead cylinder in the first three months) but Volvo replaced it (the whole engine!) for free and I believe there’s a recall out on some of those. Still, I found this one to be somewhat reliable. A good heads up to those who do drive or purchase this; smaller, less important parts will break from time to time. Nothing big, maybe $250 max per fix (keep in mind this has been a dealership princess, and dealers typically overcharge a little), mostly brake stuff and suspension pieces. In the almost 10 years I've driven this vehicle, the notable repairs that have been made are: - Exhaust line replaced (rust degradation) - Suspension fluid leak (this car uses a kind of solenoid suspension, this isn't a case of "blinker fluid" or "left-handed hammer" I promise) - Engine needed to be flushed due to carbon deposit buildup (almost right on the 9-year mark) - Bolt holding one of the brake guards fell out due to rust, simple replace The only slightly serious replacement needed was for an ABS Brake speed sensor that went out on the highway. It was a cheap replacement, but if you ever lose that sensor, you’ll lose Traction Control, Tilt control, Cruise Control, City Safety, ABS Brakes, and Collision Warning notifications until it’s fixed. It still drove fine for the period of time I was waiting for the dealer to get a new part, but it’s super inconvenient if it does go out. All in all this is a good, long-run vehicle. Likely one of the last few Volvos with very solid reliability. The only wildcard has been the type of gas it takes. The manual says it can take 87 all the way to 91. I ran 87 through it most of its life (with no issue), and just started running 93 through it one half-fill every other month, as a repair guy said this might help squeeze better performance out of it in this likely later half of it's life. Another guy said I should have been using 93 the whole time. Been using 89 when cheap enough and 87 when 89s too expensive for the last half-year with no issue, so I guess it's not too big a deal. A real good car, would recommend!

My s60 was a dealer loaner (2k), when I bought it. That lowered the price and gave me some hesitation. However...in the 216000 miles since, my s60 still rips up the highways. It's the best car I've ever owned.

Lots of fun! Great handling and acceleration. Amazing traction. Deciced to buy this car over the BMW 3281 x-drive.

I owned a Volvo C30 prior to this car which sadly had an early demise thanks to some road debris. I loved that car and since it had been discontinued I thought the S60 AWD was a good choice. I love the car but hate the handling on older pavement. It tends to ride down the road like a train rocking back and forth and can be difficult to control without 2 hands firmly on the wheel. When I purchased the car I noticed it had been in the shop several times for tire issues, new tires and alignments within 10 or 15 thousand miles. I bought it with 31k at 36 months. I had it aligned just a few weeks ago, after 7k miles since the last alignment, and the rear alignment was out. This helped but the car still does not handle the way I would expect. I own 2 other all wheel and one 4x4 which none handle this poorly. Not sure what's up or if this is just an issue with this car. Tires are Continental high end and have about 70 percent tread left. Update. I replaced the Continental tires with Sumitomo HTR A/S at about half the cost of the Continentals. Love these tires. I have driven about 12k on them so far. Car handles like a dream and is dead quiet on the highway. These were recommended by the kid behind the counter at a large national tire chain. 89 vs 177. I have had 3 sets of Continentals on three different vehicles Mini Clubman, Volvo C30 and the S60 and I hated them on all my cars. They're good when new but they quickly go down hill. I have now owned this car for about 4.5 years with no none wear issues at all. I put on high end front slotted and drilled rotors and replaced the two front Sumitomo tires at 64k. They had plenty of life left but the handling was not as good anymore. No other complaints.
