Used 1990 Volvo 740 Consumer Reviews
Freebie!!!
We received this car from a guy at work whose wife blew the head gasket and did not want to fix it (bought his wife a new Volvo). The car had 155,000 miles and every service record so we fixed it and now will not part with the car. We love the ride and fact that we do not ever have to worry about it in a parking lot. It is my primary car and I drive it everyday to work. Motor sounds like a box of loose bolts, but it runs strong and starts everytime. We will are planning on buying the S80 as our other car due to this car.
This is one faaaaaaast brick!!
I was contemplating last year to be tied down on a lease or finance to a new less expensive car such as the Protege5, but I ended up looking at a sweet 1990 740 Turbo at my local Volvo dealership. Even though it's more than 12 years old, rust has not set in (and I live in Canada), the engine is beautiful (if not a bit tractor-like), and the interior is sweet. Go find one today-cheap, sweet, and reliable...not to mention faaaaaast!!!
1990 Turbo Wagon - Still Love It
I bought my Volvo 13 years ago and it still looks and runs like new (almost). Have had periodic minor mechanical problems and service/parts are relativeltexpensive, but nothing major after 170,000 miles.
Car for the Enthusiast!
I bought my 745T as a relatively quick,& extremely safe vehicle for my family. Quality of the interior is standard1990's Volvo-with cheap plastic that breaks easily, no cup holders, but the best seats in the industry! Records on my car, had shown that it had to be towed to the dealer twice with 25,000 and 27,000 miles on her... Unforgivablefor a car whose sticker price was $29,356! Records show the previous ownerspent over $5,000 in repairs before I got her. I do my own work, & LOVE Volvos-but you need to either know how to fix the quirks, or have a pocket of cash to have the dealer fix what goeswrong. (Not as bad as the 450 pagemanual on how to fix the problems on theJaguar XJ-S...)
The Perfect Car...Almost!
This 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon was purchased with 138,000 miles on it. It's definitely the most reliable car my mother has ever bought. The car now has about 180,000 miles on it as of 12/3/02 and it still is incredibly reliable and runs great! The only work done to it is: replacement of both front and rear windshield wiper motors, alternator, gaskets and seals on the engine and transmission. A super reliable car! This car is quick too...0-60 in 8 seconds. Did I mention, you can easily get one of these car for CHEAPER than a Honda or Toyota?
