Used 1990 Volvo 740 Consumer Reviews
296,0000 no frills and still rolling
Boxy Blue is 19 and still my everyday driver,,,,when I came home from the hospital I had two kids my eldest son and my new 740 family car, he learned to drive in that car and my daughter will soon take her first lesson also. Outside of the normal maintenance four brake jobs/compressor/booster/tie rods I've really only dealt with regular maintenance(ties/wiper blades) I'm not big on maintenance so it burns oil, but doesn't leak and the transmission sometimes takes five miles to kick in for highway driving, but it still cranks out 24 mpg on the highway and 22 in the city ---besides everyone knows me when the Blue Box comes rolling through. For the bucks this was my best car purchase
no fun, safety first!!!
I bought my 740 turbo sedan a year ago and the car had 270,000 km. In one year I have put an extra 20 k's on the car without spending a lot of money. That's just great!!!
Those darn Swedes (build great cars!)
We purchased our 745 turbo wagon used 10 yrs & 180000 miles ago. "Sweddie" now has 235000+ miles & shows no sign of fatigue. Motor is still strong, burns <.5 pint of oil every 5K miles. I bought my wife a newer (1993 945 t) Volvo, but she loves this '90 too much! This is without a doubt the best, most dependable car we have ever owned. We now have three Volvos-the 740 and 940 are some of the best rear-wheel Volvos ever built. We are striving for our 300K mile badge and maybe more! Too bad the new Volvos have slipped a bit in reliability. Perhaps the new "R" model will be a turning point...we'll see! TQ
I had only liked the way it looked !
I had seen this car at a dealership off to the side of the road and I liked the way it had looked from a distance, that is to say for an older car. I thought that would be nice for a run a round town car. What a perfect value. The older Volvo wagon in "my opinion" is in every way comparable to my 2000 BMW 528it wagon . Performace, handling, and build quality are unsurpassed in the older Volvo 745 turbo Wagon. I would highly recomend to anyone looking for a cheap reliable run around car, pick up a Volvo Wagon! Besides the older the car the more sophisticated one might look for valuing a dollar, as we should!
Piece of junk
This has by far been the sorriest vehicle that I have ever owned. Motor mounts failed @ 28K, cat converter broke in half @ 32K, lumbar supports in drivers seat fixed 6 times and still broken, transmission failed @ 52K, radiator, replaced before 100K despite having this "car" servived every 5000 miles, and on and on ad nauseum!
