I just returned from a 1200 miles trip incl 568 miles in one day. I did all of the driving and the seat comfort was outstanding (don't have to see my chiropractor), the mileage was great (32.4 mpg), and the handling and performance in the mountains was first-rate.

After suffering through poor gas mileage and equally poor reliability and service I finally decided to hang up the "it must be American" and purchase a foreign made vehicle. I was in the marked for a European sedan and after thinking my mind was made up on the BMW 3-Series I am thankful that I wandered into my local VW dealership and test drove the Passat. This vehicle is not only fun to drive but performs just as well in my opnion as the BMW. The best part about it was I got so much more for my money as far as "extras" that drove up the price of the BMW but were considered standards on the VW. Between the gas mileage, style, comfort and dependability I couldn't be happier.

Got my 06 Passat 3 days after they hit the US dealerships in 2005. After just about 4 years of driving: paint is flawless, V-Tex seats still look new, every single thing on the car works except the XM part of the radio (it went out 3 times and part not made by VW). The car turns heads when I drive it and the young crowd thinks its a hip automobile. Dynaudio 600w sound system is powerful and the extra features like the electronic parking brake and the hill holder are nice touches. I worried about VW reliability when I bought it but really wanted it and I have not been disappointed at all.

Sport package #2 with this vehicle. Great motor and 6 speed tranny with paddles. Super passing acceleration. Must say she puts a smile on my face. Great interior and seating position. Have had this vehicle for almost 6 months now and she is getting more fun to drive. AWD bites right off the line and also when rounding bends coming onto a highway or leaving one to get on another. A real sleeper, this Passat 3.6L. Older V-8 performance with a very modern V-6. Sport mode and tiptronic adds to the excitement when you want.

When I bought this car I totally loved it. I drives great and was fun to drive. I never noticed until I went to sell it and got the vehicle service history printed out that I took it in 14 times for non-standard maintenence in 4.5 years. This is ridiculous. As soon as the warranty ran out, then I had to start paying for repairs out of pocket. Sooo disappointing. I would have loved to have kept this car, but the unreliability is so huge. I've previously owned another VW before this that had some problems. I will never buy another VW. Again, the reliability is terrible. I think VW should pay me back for the 3 visits to dealer in one month alone that cost nealy $3500.

I purchased my immaculate and gently used 2006 Passat in February '07 (it had only 8K miles), and was able to enjoy it for about 4 months before it was tragically killed last week in an accident. I was t-boned on the driver's side by a car traveling about 35 mph. The 5 star crash test rating is well deserved! The side curtain and lumbar airbags all deployed as designed, and there was minimal intrusion into the cabin. My passenger and I were able to walk away unharmed. The outstanding engineering that made this possible cannot be underestimated! Sadly, "Pascal" could not be repaired, but I WILL buy another one just like it. If you're thinking safety, trust me, this car will save your life!

This is an awesome vehicle to drive. The handling and performance is unmatched by anything else in the category; however, this is my second VW and the same problems have occurred in this one as my 2001 jetta. The menu frequently posts inaccurate information such as tire pressure too low and the check engine light comes on. The Windows create a blind spot and the sunroof is inefficient.

Bought this New Passat three weeks ago and we are loving every mile, the power that comes from this 2.0T engine is just awesome, the ride is awesome the handeling is superb It stops on a dime and its acceleration is incredible. The interior is very well thought out, the back seat has more than enough room for even tall adults. I've driven them all, Mercedes-Benz & BMW, and this new Passat has that German build quality without the price, I'm sure the Japanese will copy it just like they copied the Jetta.

I love this car! I was looking at the usual CamCords, Altimas, etc. But I knew this new styled Passat was for me. It is a fun to drive car! It is, in my opinion, a great looking car. The Dynaudio is fantastic. Never have I heard such a sweet sounding stereo in a car. I have 17" wheels and it looks great and handles the various road surfaces without any problems, wet or dry. The "Sport" mode is great. I enjoy driving in the "Tip-mode" too. I don't usually drive fast, but this car wants to purr along at 80 MPH! And it doesn't feel like it's going that fast. The engine just purrs. At 80 MPH, the RPM gauge is at about 2,800. The 2.0T is a sweet engine with plenty enough power for me.

The only other vehicles I considered were the BMW 325i and Audi A4 2.0T (the 330 and A4 3.2 were slightly out of my range). Even after driving the 325, the Passat remained the clear winner for me. I purchased my new Passat 3.6 with Sport Package #1 (I feel this is the best deal in the 3.6 range) in order to provide a stable mate for my 1999 Passat 1.8T (which I will keep until it dies). As far as driving enjoyment goes, the car is great. The car's power, build quality, and Teutonic feel are amazing for a car in this price range. I have had a couple of electrical problems involving the fuel gauge and fuel pump, but both were quickly fixed under warranty. Despite these problems, I still love it.

VW Passat - continuous repairs

While the VW Passat 2.0T is great to drive it requires continuous repairs for all major systems. The interior is nice but when you need 2 visors, one drive gear shift, 2 new lumbar supports, a new trunk latch, new window buttons, etc - do I need to say more - the list just gets longer - and the car is only 4 years old, why would you bother? The hassle with the repairs outweighs the fun of the driving. It is unreliable and there is no guarantee that you can get from point A to B. The latest recall is the engine coils, but what about all the other repair and defective parts that aren't being recalled. This car and parts are unreliable -why do you think they decreased the mileage warranty

This car really is amazing. They did a lot of little things since the '04 model we had previously (and lost in an accident). The interior design is gorgeous, the color choices are great. The horsepower is higher, but the fuel economy is the same as before. Car companies usually inflate the fuel economy a little, but honestly in our part hwy / part city road commute (26 miles) we get 26.6 mpg, which is GREAT. The driver side seat is now mostly automatic which is nice (if you are familiar with the VW side crank...). All in all, this is an amazing car and I'd recommend it without reservation! It is much more unique than the Hondas out there and better, too.

I have had my Passat for one week and I am just so happy that I purchased this vehicle. I looked at the Cadillac CTS & Volvo S60 before seeing a Passat on the road and saying what car is that! That's when I came to Edmunds and started researching for this vehicle and realized it had more features and way better pricing than the above vehicles. All of my co-workers were like "whose new car is that?" when I brought it to work and someone even said they were envious!

After researching numerous cars including the Saab 9-5, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Volvo S40 and Lincoln Zephyr I found that the for the money, standard features, resale potential, style, safety features, and performance the VW 2.0T Passat was the best deal out there. It is a great looking car that seems to even get better looking every day. It has the power of a six cellandar and the automatic transmission is smooth as silk. While I wanted the Dynaudio system and the wood trim I didn’t want to spend all the extra money on various packages to get it and have settled for an aftermarket real wood dash kit and have found the stock stereo to be more than adequate.

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is a great car. It looks good, drives well, and has little wind noise. I've had one engine warning issue that was corrected in a short visit to the dealership. My fuel economy rarely exceeds 30 mpg, unlike the previous model, the 1.8T, which often achieved 34-36 mpg though. It has great seats which are exceptionally comfortable for long drives. It provides incredible leg room in the front seats.

My Passat has been a major disappointment. I've had all types of problems: electrical/engine warning lights, stereo volume, door locking, a/c, when driving and sunroof is open it makes a horrible sound, air quality, brake inefficiency, fuel cap, the list goes on. Ironically, my car is an '06, I have a 39 mo lease and only have 24,000 miles on it. From a comparison standpoint, my 2003 Pathfinder has 50k miles, and I have only had to change the tires & brake pads. To top it off, you can't buy wipers anywhere!

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0L provides great acceleration with good gas mileage via the turbo engine. I like the handling -it is fun to drive. The seats and positioning are very comfortable. It has a huge trunk - plus folding seats in the back give me wagon capabilities without actually driving a wagon.

I love my new Volkswagen Passat 2.0T. It is so unique and a real head turner. The Turbo 2.0 feels like a little Jet and the Tiptronic transmission is a blast. This is a cice car that beats the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord hands down, with a bit of style too. I compare it to the BMW 5-Series easily.

Although I was intially impressed with its acceleration and bells and whistles (electronic mileage and trip computer, etc), the car has been in the shop twice for the air pressure guage idiot light, and a bad ground with the battery. Moreover, I am now noticing a bad ground with the a/c fan regulator (a/c fan increases and decreases when depressing accelerator peddle). This car has the same electrical gremlins as my previous VWs. The car with the 16 inch "eco-squealers" does not feel sure footed over the twisties. Inside the fit 'n finish (plastic door panels) is not as solid as my 1998 VW Passat nor my 97 Audi Cabriolet. For the extra couple of grand I would look at an off lease Audi A4 or A3.

This is my 5th Passat and by far is the best match of performance / styling and saftety offerred to date. I've enjoyed all my Passat sedans over the last 8 years (I enjoy buying or leasing every 1.5 to 2 years). I wanted to wait for the V6 put decided to get most of what I wanted with the 2.0T. The upgraded sounds system DynaAudio is superb and the controls for the stereo / MFI are excellent. I love having XM radio. Performance wise, it is quick of the start and corners nicely. They've done a great job at reducing the turbo lag issue. I'm experiencing about 25 MPG in my day to day driving (40% highway). A few people have come up to me when I park and comment on it's great looks!

This is a car for the ages. I believe price is irrelevant but it's nice to buy a car under $30,000 and get $60,000 worth of quality and performance. I'm coming from an Audi A4 and this is a finer car in comfort, appearance, safety and performance. People should test drive the Lexus, the Mercedes, the Jag and the BMW and THEN take a drive over to the VW dealer and take the Passat for a spin. You'll be shaking your head in disbelief as the Passat is the complete package. It's got it all.

Pros: 6-speed transmission, key fob, auto hold, ESP, electronic parking brake, AC storage-glovebox & center console, 4-cylinder engine w/turbo, 8 speakers dyno audio, 8 air bags, LED tail lights...too many things to list. Cons: none so far.

This is a terrific car. Luxurious, perfectly designed interior with so many nice touches that it is hard to remember them all. It's luxurious, with soft leather, and lots of legroom, especially for rear passengers. The 2.0T engine is very refined for a 4- cylinder engine, very smooth, with lots of power, matched to a firm but comfortable suspension, coupled with very effective electromechanical steering. It has great brakes. Don't buy the car without the Dynaudio stereo. The navigation system is useful but costly. The car feels and drives like something special, not just a means of getting from point A to point B. I keep finding excuses to drive the car. "What, we're out of milk? No problem! I'll get it!

After 3 weeks of driving our blue graphite Passat 2.0T we know we absolutely made the right decision. After looking at the Chevrolet Impala, Dodge Charger, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry and Dodge Magnum we stopped by the VW dealer on a whim and after the test drive it was a no brainer. We are constantly being stopped by people asking about the car and have nothing but praise to tell everyone. The drivetrain performance of the 2.0T with Tiptronic is more than pleasing on the road. This car is so tight with virtually no body roll and exceptional handling. I have regular flashbacks to drving BMW & Mercedes rentals in Europe. I can't wait for the sports package with the 280hp 6-cyl. engine when our lease is up!

I have owned my Passat 2.0 for 10 days and I drive about 50 miles per day. The car is wonderful, I'm very happy with the purchase. I considered Honda Accord V6 EX and VW Passat 2.0 when buying, and the Passat won. I have all the options available for 2.0 including package #2, navigation, 17 in. wheels, Dynaudio system, and additional airbags. I like Passat better than my 2003 BMW 325i. The Passat doesn't have brand name like BMW, but it is fast, smooth, and has many features that my BMW doesn't have.

I loved this car - talk about an exciting ride! Hit the gas and it flies. However, in the 2 1/2 years that we owned it, it spent 58 days in the shop - that averages out to 1 day for every 500 miles, some stuff minor, others major. Two visits were 3 weeks long because they would fix one thing and another would go bad. 4 rearends, a catalitic converter, multiple relays - parking brake, heated seats, radio etc., We actually traded this off while it was in the shop for another long visit. 500 - 200 miles between visits. Oh and the brake calipers were bad, this happened on its last visit - not really impressed.

So far, I've run into a few issues...some cosmetic, some mechanical. Some of the pwr lock/window buttons were blistering, and the leather on a rear door panel began bubbling. All was covered under manufacturer warranty. The dealership that the vehicle was purchased through misinformed me of the expiration date of the manufacturer warranty and this was during some expensive repairs. If you own a 2006+ Passat, check your spare tire compartment! I found 6 inches of standing water in the compartment! Supposedly this is fairly common. Although the dealer would never admit it. WHEN the cars runs, it's great! Now, I will only buy a new VW for the warranty and service maintenance. NO MORE CPL HASSLE

The Passat 2.0T is a blast to drive, particularly when you pass all the gas stations. You get the best of two worlds, economy and performance. I leased a 2001 GLS V6 and a 2004 GLX V 6 before. The 2.0T is MUCH roomier and has much more "git up" than my previous V6's! I can't see any need to go to the new 276 HP V6 in this country. If I had some Autobahns, I would be changing my mind! Get Package 2 and the navigation system. Enjoy!

I had a 2002 Toyota Camry LE that was totaled. For a replacement, I also very carefully evaluated the Honda Accord EX V6. After driving all three, the Passat was the clear choice based on feel. It has the firmest ride and best handling by far. It's interior easily supasses the Accord for quality of materials and ergonimics and surpasses the Camry on ergonimics. The 2.0T engine felt much quicker than either the Camry or Accord. Wrapped in a unique, elegant package, I was sold. Just hoping the reliability doesn't become an issue.

Haven't had a single problem with this vehicle and it's a pleasure to drive. Some times the problems reported are the result of the driver/lack of maintenance, or someone who has purchased a flooded car.

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat Value Edition is far and above the rest of the competition. The interior is very tight and quiet compared to my other car, which is a Honda Accord. The interior is so nice that you feel you are in a car with a price tag of $35,000 or so. However for as much as the car gives you for the price you want more. I would really have liked the car to have an iPod plug and a driver's side power seat. But honestly for the lease deal I got I can't complain! You will have to at least drive the car to get a taste of the personality of the vehice, it truly is incredible!

I sold my '97 BMW 740 (I got tired of the $1,000 repair bills!) and just purchased the new '06 Passat with the Luxury Pkg. #2. It's got plenty of power and great mileage to boot (22/35). I picked the Passat over the Audi A4 and Infiniti G35 because of the extra room in the back seat, many standard features as well as the good lease deal VW was offering. I didn't think I would like to drive a VW after owning a 7-Series BMW but I was plesantly surprised. The websites compare this car to the Camry and Accord but I think it is more in the class of the BMW 3-Series, Volvo S40, Saab 9-3, and Infiniti G35. I'm convinced that you cannot find a better car for the money from anyone!

My 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T has been in the dealership for a total of 14 work days to fix problems with it. The check engine light went on and I can't lock the doors or the alarm will go off. The interior lights go on while driving and the doors unlock and lock while driving. The stereo volume goes up and down (told I have to live with that according to my dealer). They still can't figure out what is causing the problems.

Very capable and comfortable sedan. Well made, solid feel and handles well with plenty of power with the turbo. Decent gas mileage 22 mpg combined.

Having gone from a 2003 Passat to a 2006 model I am impressed. The '06 model's motor is more potent. It is quiet, comfortable, has great storage space in front, and is very well thought out and designed. I think this car is a superb town car and great on the road. I got much more than I thought I would be getting.

I waited 7 years and finally got a Passat (after a Honda, Camry and Mercedes). I take care of it but have spent way too much time in the dealership for annoying warnings that turn out unfounded, fixing peeling radio buttons and armrests, or an airbag fault. In 2.5 years, I've probably made 15 trips there - 25 miles away and time off work. I expected reliability; instead the battery just died without cause, and the "tire pressure too low" alert came on for the 14th time although the tires are fine. The dealership stopped asking my opinion for their surveys in the waiting room. Maybe I got a lemon, but VWs are history for me.

The appearance looks great, but buyer beware. I have had more problems with this vehicle than all the cars I have combined in 45 years. Electrical problems began from the very beginning. The check engine light came on all the time. The car was in the shop frequently. I have had to replace both rear wheel bearings with just over 50,000 miles on the vehicle. I contacted Volkswagen USA and they were very rude and abrupt and stated the wheel bearings had to be replaced because of the bad road conditions. I would caution any buyer to stay clear of any Volkswagen vehicles. They do not build them like they use to. Repairs are extremely costly! I just picked up my car from the dealership and was

I purchased this car it had only 8,000 miles on it. The car has been a complete nightmare with replacement of many valves, air compressor, condenser, peeling of interior, burning lots of oil, finally new engine, now my transmission valve body needs to be replaced. There needs to be a class act law suit, no one should have these types of problems it it a Major headache. I have missed time away from work and luckily it is still under warranty just stay on top of the dealership to fix this problem. But if you are looking buy a new car Honda or Nissan which run great.. I'm thinking about trading once the warranty runs out. I think the workers were on drugs when they built the car and parts.

My second Passat...Nice to look at? Yes. Fun to drive? Yes. However, it's as if the car was programmed to self destruct. Have had to replace the turbo cutoff valve, A/C condenser, cam shaft (Yes, the cam shaft!), driver door handle mechanism and trunk latch...all in the last year! Things go wrong with this car that haven't gone wrong with cars in 40 years.

As a former Jetta owner, I was hesitant to enter in the VW world again. I fell in love with this Passat. I almost bought the Acura TL, but for thousands less, I got a bigger interior and better gas mileage. You cannot beat the 4 year warranty, roomy interior, and a car that is a blast to drive! So far so good!

I first drove the '06 Passat in October '05 before the review on Edmunds.com. The Value Edition had enough standard features and styling to convince me at first glance. After that initial drive I was still not convinced, so we spent a week test driving the Nissan Maxima, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry LE, Ford Fusion and the Ford 500 - thoroughly comparing features. The Passat won hands down. It has better interior styling, and its solid German road feel left us speechless everytime we saw it. We purchased a 2.0T in Mocha Brown with the Latte interior. Its upgrades were package #2 and the 17" wheels. I highly recommend the wheel upgrade. The Dynaudio stereo is a great options, but we opted out on these. I'm blown away!

I bought a 2006 VW 2.0t passat, with 48,000 miles in may of 2009. This car is a piece of junk. Thank goodness I had a certified pre-owned warranty on it, good until 75,000.2 months after buying this, a transmission valve (I think that what it's called. Not much of a car expert.) broke. Repair costs totaled $1400.00, which I didn't have to pay b/c of the warranty. 5 months later, the check engine light came on. VW told me that my gas cap wasn't on tight enough. I took it to the dealer, $2200.00 worth of stuff wrong. Once again, all covered under warranty, thankfully. Last week, had to have the car towed from work. Engine gasket broke and pcv valve bad. $500.00. Trading it in tomorrow.
