I like my new '06 Passat very much for his performance, solid body, and quality. Feel very safe while I'm driving. However, the car is way too sensitive, I took my car to the dealship because the gas cap is not tight enough and engine light went on. I wish the dealership can ask me to check those little things before I have to bring it in.

I purchased my 81 year old mother one and got her out of a 2004 Cadillac DeVille. She loves it, the control and safety features are the ticket. I bought my daughters (2) TDI Beetles and they love them also. VW is putting quality products on the road and standing behing them.

As a 21 year old I was stuck between sport and luxury and since this was my first brand new car it was a very hard choice. I drove so many cars, and I was down to three cars, the Acura TL, Subaru WRX STi, and Nissan Altima SE-R, but none of these compared to when I decided to just go see the Passat. As soon as I saw the interior I was sold. When I drove the car, I was mesmerized, I love the sound of the turbo. It drives like a dream, they have this car almost perfect. My friends swear it looks just like an Audi and my friend who owns a Audi A6 says it's identical in drive feel. This is the best choice that I could have made.

I purchased this vehicle in December of 2005. It turned out to be a HORRIBLE decision. The problems that I experienced included the tire pressure monitoring system, airbag malfunction, transmission issues shifting the vehicle, Dynaudio issues where the volume goes to MAX for no reason, autohold issues where the brakes did not hold, the engine light going off and vehicle going into "limp mode" as they called it, etc. ALL of these problems happened within the first 3,000 - 4,000 miles. I ended up getting a new car from the dealership and they said I wasn't the first one to have problems with the Passat. I was informed it must have "been a bad batch" and that my new car will be "better". Time will tell...

This car has great performance, safety, reasonable gas mileage, fit & finish. Volkswagen has hit a homerun with this one. I had the opportunity to compare this car to a BMW 325i and a Honda Accord EX on a closed course and fell in love with the Passat. I have always appreciated Volkswagens' appearance, but the car just seemed boring. With the intro of the '06 Passat FSI 2.0T this has become a thing of the past. I love the look (especially with the 18- inch 'Chicago' wheels). The car handles amazingly, I implore you to accelerate through that next bend as the ESP dares you to push it to its limits. The interior details rise above the competition with the Multifunction computer, smart-key, to the multi-cupholders.

Since I leased this car I've had the a/c compressor replaced (6 mo. after getting the car), 2 cd players replaced, steering column replaced (which I've read is locking up and causing cars to SHUT OFF while driving, so BE CAREFUL if you're between 55-65k) spark plugs, catalytic converter, and either the fuel injector(s) or coils will be replaced at 55k, once I on my own figure out which is actually faulty. I would 100% not recommend this car to anyone. I was so excited to be getting a passat but after all of this, I will NEVER AGAIN purchase, lease or go anywhere near a vw. My crappy 1996 Hyundai Sonata was more reliable.

When I was searching for a new car all I knew was it had to be a Japanese product. So I did test drove the Nissan Altima SE V6 (250Hp), Toyota Solara V6, and few others. I was set for the Altima, until I stepped into VW dealership (have previously owned the Passat) and test drove the new 2006 2.0T with the 6-speed auto transmission. This car only has a 4-cylinder engine, but it delivers an amazing 200 HP with the turbo. Everything is great about this car, everything it's in the place, great fuel economy, this car is simply a blast. The seats are comfortable (make sure you get a cold weather package - $200), there is almost no turbo lag at all, this car shares the same engine with Audi A3,2.0 FSI. Take it for test drive and see for yourself...

As a Volkswagen fan for many years, I was pleased to see that the new 2006 Passat still had all the great features that I had come to expect from Volkswagen. This new Passat also has many fetaures I wasn't necessarily looking for, but now find I can't live without, such as the cool push-button in-dash ignition system, the driver's side glovebox, and the in-door umbrella holder. It's also a cool and sexy looking car, one that belies the insane size of the trunk, the 30+ highway MPG, and the incredible safety and reliability. This is not only an excellent family car, but a great "cool" car as well, and I don't have to feel like a soccer mom just because it's safe!

The chassis stiffness and the rest of the suspension leads to spirited driving. Watch out on the highway though, you'll find yourself going 90 mph while thinking you're doing 75.

The new 2006 Passat is a car with a lot of enthusiasism. The 4-cylinder turbo engine gives you the boost on demand for highway driving. The handling is as good or better than the more expensive BMW 3-Series. The interior room is great if you have a family. It has a lot of trunk space and the back seat has room for multiple baby seats. So if you travel with children the space is a big plus. The leather interior and in dash CD player add a nice luxury touch to this model. It is fun to drive and covers all the practical bases for family use.

I love the turbo because it gives this car the kind of guts and power that I was looking for. It's also sophisticated, but doesn't feel stuffy or buttoned-down at all; the perfect blend of classic styling and an understated cool. Smart features like miles remaining on tank of gas, satellite radio, even umbrella storage... someone thought of details here.

We were going to pick up a Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup truck and saw the new Passat on the other side of the dealership (same dealer). After our test drive we were sold! We love the car with the heated seats and the moonroof. At night the dash looks very cool with the red and blue allumination. And the cars handling is great too!

The New Passat shames my 2002 version that I loved. The leather seats in Package 2 are awesomely comfortable. I was sorry to read that one review mentioned the need for audio controls on the steering wheel. Package 2 has that feature and gives you leather trim that is luxurious. I bought the navigation system, anyone buying the New Passat should look into it. It gives you an slick looking display for your radio as well as directions to the unknown. You'll drive it and buy it. Everyone's comments about drive and performance are accurate. It drives like a BWM, Audi, Mercedes, or Jaguar. Why would anyone buy one of them over the new Passat?

Hands down the best car I've ever purchased. Traded in my A6. The Passat still looks great even after 2 years and 22,000 miles. The only problem I've had is the windshield washer not working which the dealer fixed right away. Other than that just regular maintenance. I'm getting first class treatment from the dealer. They treat me better than the Audi dealer (Don Rosen) ever did. I am using regular gas and still getting 36 mpg on the highway, 25 mpg around the neighborhood. The interior is so solid. Not one creak or rattle. It has been a pleasure to drive and I will definitely be looking at the Passat CC next year.

Yes very nice drive but OMG the issues. I should have looked at reviews, before getting this nightmare. VW is loving the money, cause they are taking it in double from us. Oil lights, low tire pressure issues, engine off lights, and the techs say "I didnt see any problems." REALLY no problems... never will a VW be in my yard again. NEVER !!!!!!!!

Simply the worst reliability of any car I've owned. A full on nightmare! Repairs were always covered under warranty, but if not covered would have cost me over $13K over 3 years. From replacing full AC system, front struts, computer, cat-converter, instrument panel, full injection, Electronics a real problem voltage surges move wipers when turning off car. The painted window switches and passenger door handles scratch and interior shows age. If you buy one you must purchase with a good warranty, but they are almost prohibitively expensive as the word is out. Never will by German or American again. Drove nicely but not worth the headaches! Worst car I've owned, run from this junker!

My Passat is really nice, inside and out. I have 6M. People who write reviews and think an automatic with tiptronic is a six speed Manual please put your review in the 6A for Automatic. Its acceleration is OK if the AC is off. The engine is too loud in second gear when holding the gear for acceleration. The stock tires are GoodYear Eagles LS and are horrible above 80 mph (read loud) and on rough roads. If you buy at a dealership with the Eagles insist on swapping for Continentals. In hardcore driving manuvers the car will wiggle and lean a bit on the highway when doing quick lane changes, but stays composed. I wish the car would lay flat more, thicker antiroll bars might be the trick. Its fit and Finish are superb. The seats and room are amazing.

I bought mine used, 2 weeks after buying it I had to replace both front cv boots $1k a piece. in the last 18 months I have had it in the shop at least 12 times. In the last 4 weeks I have had the passenger side electrical, all 4 steering mech, wiper arms, thermostat replaced. Also have a sunroof that likes to open when not prompted. The park brake likes to set and unset itself after I turn the car off. What a joy it has been to drive every rental car known to man while waiting for parts. Thing is every time I get it back I am happy to be sitting in the comfortable ergo friendly car that drives like a dream.... when its running. Don't buy unless you have lots of time/$ to sit at the mech

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat is a great improvment from the previous model. It has more power, more features, more everything. Suprisingly the vehicle did not increase in weight or suffer with regards to fuel economy, in fact, quite the opposite. I would say that the 4-cylinder model closely matches some of the 6-cylinders that are available at this moment. I cannot even imagine what the 6-cylinder will do.

We recently upgraded our 1999 VW Passat V6, which we loved, with a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T, which we love even more. The Passat is a solid, high performance sedan that I look forward to driving every time I get in the car. The interior and trunk space are so much roomier than they look from the outside. It is a comfortable ride, and the car handles the road excellently at all speeds.

Just picked up my new Passat. I had to decide between getting a 2007 Camry, a 2004 Passat 1.8T GLS (with 22,000 miles on it) which was in impeccable condition, and this car. After weeks of research, and test driving, I absolutely could not justify paying $16,000 for the used Passat as it is a whole different car now, nor $20,000 for the Camry as it did not compare in the test drive at all. I picked up the dark grey Passat Value Edition 6-speed for $21,580 (this includes the $1,000 loyalty bonus). I figured that I can live without the chrome lining around the windows, while I can put alloy wheels myself further down the road as I wear out these sweet Michelins that come standard. No car in this price range can compare with the Passat experience!

This was our first (and probably last) VW. Loved the car until all the electronic problems started popping up (too numerous to list). The last problem we had was the well-known defective steering column that needed to be replaced (just last week). How does this common problem not warrant a recall? I love driving the car when it is working, but have no faith that the car will last (and it still only has 26k miles on it!). Just waiting for the next problem to arrive. I'll stick with Acuras/Hondas from here on.

This is my second Volkswagen, but my first Passat, and I love it. I have to give it to Volkswagen, they really put a lot of thought into their cars and they don't leave anything lacking. The Passat is fun to drive, not to mention how well it handles. The turbo is truly a turbo. It looks and feels just like one of the $50,000 cars in its class, but I think it's better. My sister bought an Acura TSX three days before I bought my Passat and she likes my Passat better. I was at the Acura dealership ready to purchase one and left because of the price and features. I drove a mile down the street to the same dealership I bought my Beetle from and bought my Passat. Every car I buy from here on out will be a Volkswagen handsdown!

From day one this car caused problems. I almost backed into a wall a month after owning the car - the brakes failed. I was told it was an air bubble in the brake line. Brake rotors changed, pads changed, and eventually problem went away. Gas cap light came on from the day the car was purchased. It was not until the car had over 50,000 km on it that they found that the gas tank had a leak. Bearings went on the car just over 50,000 km. Stereo CD player had to be changed out. For a high end vehicle the car had too many issues and spent a lot of time in the shop for repairs. This was my fourth VW and my last.

The 2007 Passat 2.0T is a very nice car. I had a Saab 9-5 and this has better build quality. It is just as much fun to drive and costs many thousands less. The car is at its best cruising at 80-85 mph. It's safe, secure and smooth at that speed. On a 900 mile trip, I got 32 mpg with the a/c going continuously. The leatherette seats are an acceptable alternative. I wish the driver's seat had full power but the power lumbar is a nice feature. Getting such niceties as a telescopic steering wheel, stability control, tire pressure monitor, sunroof, Tiptronic transmission, full instrumentation, a nicely appointed trunk, and one touch windows on all four doors makes this a real bargain.

This car has been bullet-proof after almost 60,00 miles, which, I have to admit, is quite a bit different from my previous Passat (1996 GLX). But I bought another one, didn't I? Replaced the wiper motor early on, under warranty. After that, nothing. My only complaint is that the ride has softened. My '96 was a slot car. But, it's still a beautiful design 4 years later and is the best blend of performance and fuel economy I know of in the segment.

With only 3,000 miles to date. I am averaging 26.5 pg, and 31.8 on highway during two long trips at higher speed. Wind seems to affect the Passat somewhat, steering in the wind seems affected but otherwise this car has excellent center weighting and response. Its acceleration is outstanding and its seat comfort once adjusted is excellent during long trip. This car is fun to drive, has smooth acceleration and good brakes. Mine has a few nagging issues, but nothing significant. The cup holders are not sized for to American cups or bottles. Its storage is quite good with several small storage areas or drawers.

I traded in my 2003 Passat which was great for a 2006 model. It is hard to believe they could improve a great car this much but they did. The new Passat is faster, gets better milage and has more space. The 2006 model has the luxury feel that was missing in the previous generation. It feels like I'm driving an Audi A6 for $25,000 less.

The Passat is likely the best value of 2006 sedans; the car is incredibly fun-to-drive, has excellent performance for a 4-cyl, and the highway mileage (at 80 mph) is approximately 30 mpg. The ride is very smooth, even at speeds above 100 mph and the handling is comparable to an Audi A6 (same platform) or a BMW 5-Series, all at a fraction of the price. The 8-speaker sound system is very high-quality and the XM satellite radio option is also superb.

When I first got the car, I loved it. Great sport suspension ride. Responsive. But then the problems started to happen withing a month of owning the car. Thus far, tire bearing replaced, camshaft replaced, fuel injector replaced, transmission value, spark plug replaced from carbon build up (always used premium fuel with cleaning addictives!), software reflashed multiple times, radio update for sound being muffled, oil burning and I can go on and on. This is on top of the multiple recall work. Where is the quality control?!!! Have yet another appointment to address more oil burning and car jerking from downshifting. Spent more time in service for this VW than all other cards I owned in past!

This has been the most unreliable car I've ever owned. To put in context, I've also owned a '71 Beetle and an '82 Fiat. I have babied this car, looks new, only 22k miles in just under 4 years. Been in to dealer approx 10x. Parking break 2x, steering column replaced, power windows, struts, leaks, recalls, air cond. smells bad, dealer won't fix. It squeaks & rattles like and old pickup. Had to replace tires at 19k miles and as I said, "I baby this". You look at the paint and it scratches. Now for the positives, if you only care about looks and German style, go for it. 3 mths left on lease, Toyota here I come!!

This is my first Passat, I had two Jettas before and was happy with them. My wife and I had looked at many cars and It came down between the Passat and the Nissan Maxima. We took the Passat (with Package 1) because it is just so much fun to drive and I really like the interior layout. Take it for a test drive, and you may end up buying one.

Bought this New Passat three weeks ago and we are loving every mile, the power that comes from this 2.0T engine is just awesome, the ride is awesome the handeling is superb It stops on a dime and its acceleration is incredible. The interior is very well thought out, the back seat has more than enough room for even tall adults. I've driven them all, Mercedes-Benz & BMW, and this new Passat has that German build quality without the price, I'm sure the Japanese will copy it just like they copied the Jetta.

I love this car! I was looking at the usual CamCords, Altimas, etc. But I knew this new styled Passat was for me. It is a fun to drive car! It is, in my opinion, a great looking car. The Dynaudio is fantastic. Never have I heard such a sweet sounding stereo in a car. I have 17" wheels and it looks great and handles the various road surfaces without any problems, wet or dry. The "Sport" mode is great. I enjoy driving in the "Tip-mode" too. I don't usually drive fast, but this car wants to purr along at 80 MPH! And it doesn't feel like it's going that fast. The engine just purrs. At 80 MPH, the RPM gauge is at about 2,800. The 2.0T is a sweet engine with plenty enough power for me.

VW Passat - continuous repairs

While the VW Passat 2.0T is great to drive it requires continuous repairs for all major systems. The interior is nice but when you need 2 visors, one drive gear shift, 2 new lumbar supports, a new trunk latch, new window buttons, etc - do I need to say more - the list just gets longer - and the car is only 4 years old, why would you bother? The hassle with the repairs outweighs the fun of the driving. It is unreliable and there is no guarantee that you can get from point A to B. The latest recall is the engine coils, but what about all the other repair and defective parts that aren't being recalled. This car and parts are unreliable -why do you think they decreased the mileage warranty

This car really is amazing. They did a lot of little things since the '04 model we had previously (and lost in an accident). The interior design is gorgeous, the color choices are great. The horsepower is higher, but the fuel economy is the same as before. Car companies usually inflate the fuel economy a little, but honestly in our part hwy / part city road commute (26 miles) we get 26.6 mpg, which is GREAT. The driver side seat is now mostly automatic which is nice (if you are familiar with the VW side crank...). All in all, this is an amazing car and I'd recommend it without reservation! It is much more unique than the Hondas out there and better, too.

I have had my Passat for one week and I am just so happy that I purchased this vehicle. I looked at the Cadillac CTS & Volvo S60 before seeing a Passat on the road and saying what car is that! That's when I came to Edmunds and started researching for this vehicle and realized it had more features and way better pricing than the above vehicles. All of my co-workers were like "whose new car is that?" when I brought it to work and someone even said they were envious!

After researching numerous cars including the Saab 9-5, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Volvo S40 and Lincoln Zephyr I found that the for the money, standard features, resale potential, style, safety features, and performance the VW 2.0T Passat was the best deal out there. It is a great looking car that seems to even get better looking every day. It has the power of a six cellandar and the automatic transmission is smooth as silk. While I wanted the Dynaudio system and the wood trim I didn’t want to spend all the extra money on various packages to get it and have settled for an aftermarket real wood dash kit and have found the stock stereo to be more than adequate.

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is a great car. It looks good, drives well, and has little wind noise. I've had one engine warning issue that was corrected in a short visit to the dealership. My fuel economy rarely exceeds 30 mpg, unlike the previous model, the 1.8T, which often achieved 34-36 mpg though. It has great seats which are exceptionally comfortable for long drives. It provides incredible leg room in the front seats.

My Passat has been a major disappointment. I've had all types of problems: electrical/engine warning lights, stereo volume, door locking, a/c, when driving and sunroof is open it makes a horrible sound, air quality, brake inefficiency, fuel cap, the list goes on. Ironically, my car is an '06, I have a 39 mo lease and only have 24,000 miles on it. From a comparison standpoint, my 2003 Pathfinder has 50k miles, and I have only had to change the tires & brake pads. To top it off, you can't buy wipers anywhere!

I have had the Passat for a year now and had to take it to the dealer once. We like the car, its fun to drive and looks good. When you buy an import car you should except to pay more more service and maint. Its tight in the back seat with 2 car seats but, I would buy another VW again
