DO NOT BUY A VW - MY BIGGEST REGRET
This is the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. The car has been in the shop over 15 times & about 6 months total. WE have spent over $5000 in repairs for this BRAND NEW car. It is worthless and full of problems and recalls. Entire steering column has been replaced twice w/in 14 months; entire radio/cd had to be replaced; air conditioner went out after only 2 years; brakes had to be replaced after 2 years; It is a worthless car and I am scared to death to drive it anywhere because it continuously has Service Now lights on; check engine light; beeping all the time; warning lights; Please do not buy a VW. VW of America does not care about their customers; they have shut us out.
An Unknown Treasure
There is so much hype surrounding Japanese cars that the Passat remains relatively unknown and overlooked. The car is outstanding, it oozes quality everywhere you look. The other day I left it at a public parking lot in a posh neighborhood and the guy who drove it back to me said, "This is a really nice car." This from a guy who sees all types of cars in that neighborhood. The car drives so well, it's responsive, fast, comfortable, and it has so many optional features I'm still discovering some of them after one month of owning it. In fact, after I checked Accord with all added options that come standard in my Passat, the Accord was actually more expensive. The Passat is a family, yet sporty sedan with a German touch!

Kool
This car runs with the best of them. It has a great turbo engine. It handles like a much smaller auto. I love almost everything about it but, why is the clock only good for the driver to see. Everyone wants to see the time. Also, I can't reach the door handle when its fully opened. These are very minor things if you love this car as much as my family does. It is just great!
New 3.6L Passat 11/21/05
Take this from an ex-Benz, Lexus, BMW, Volvo owner, the list is huge..., I test drove this new car on Saturday and couldn't wipe the grin off my face. "THIS IS A VW?" I put a deposit on it right away. Then I went home, did my research, read lots of blogs, (very helpful) and all the other VW model quality issues aside, I went and bought this car today. When I looked deeper into the issue, it does seem like VW has had it share of problems especailly when it comes to other and older models made in other than Germany. The fact that this was made in the Fatherland restored my confidence in this well engineered gem. Time will tell if my call was right and I'll provide updates as car matures.
Impressive
I did a lot of research to determeine which AWD vehicle would best fit my needs and the Passat came out on top. I have only had the car for a week, but I am impressed with the performance and design. The only option that did not come with the car is the navigation system. The instrument panel layout is great and easy to understand. I particularly like the ease of the multi-function steering wheel that controls the computer. The most impressive thing about this car is the 280 HP engine that has great pick up that beats the 190 ponies I had in my 2001 Audi A4. If you want or need an AWD drive vehicle that is roomy yet feels sporty this car is for you.
A Brilliantly Executed Driving Machine!
I cannot begin to express how fantastic this car is in every regard. The Volkswagen Passat 3.6 is awesome to drive around town, through twisty turns and muscling down the highway. Its power delivery is smooth and voracious, the sport tuned suspension is nicely balanced and the car is laden with technology. From the sleek and refined muscular styling to the balanced performance, interior comfort and features of the car, this is probably one of the most well rounded and capable vehicles on the road today. The body of the new Passat is also incredibly rigid which really enhances the feeling of control when driving the car. Take a look at this car. You wont be disappointed!
Love It!
This is my third and favorite Passat. I have owned the B5 ('00), B5.5 ('02), and now the B6 ('06). VW has really stepped it up with the new 3.6L Passat. I purchased mine with the Sport Package #1, Black on Black with the 18" Samas (best option IMHO for someone looking for a car that drives and feels like a sports car). I test drove the Acura TL, Audi A4, and BMW 325 for good measure, but IMO the Passat won in power, refinement, looks, and value for money. Maybe I am biased towards German (VW) engineering, but you would make a BIG mistake by not giving this car a serious look.
2006 Passat
Iecently bought a 2006 Passat 3.6 with luxury package 1. Man will this car move. It delivers great performance and I love the handling of the car. The premium sound system is great along with the XM radio. I love the blue/red dash at night and the dual climate control. I drove a Toyota Camry, Nissan Maxima and BMW and this car had them all beat.
V6 is the Only Way to Go
I just purchased a new 2006 Passat 3.6 and was amazed at the power and performance this vehicle offers. I have allready put 1,000 miles on in the first week and will keep this car for years to come. This will be my third V6 Passat and no vehicle that I have test driven had the saftey and performance that is has.
I Love My Passat
I bought this new Passat 306 in January after selling my 1999 Passat GLX. I thought I loved my old Passat, but I really love my new one. It has sooo many great features, rides like a dream, and it will fly. I have come to the conclusion, it's just a VW thing. There is just something about the engineering that sets it apart from the rest.
Very Cool Car!
This car has been pretty great. The engine and driving performance are the kicker for me. Down shift with the steering wheel padles and you're gone. Dynaudio radio is awesome. Great options, seat memory function, parking sensors, turning headlights and side lights for cornering are great. Fit and finish inside could be tighter, in most new VWs I sit in at the dealer they seem to have a tighter interior. The AC is a little weak, and the NAV system is kinda hard to use quickly. I had a few issues with the transmission that were fixed by the dealer under warranty, but nothing major. Got 42K on it now and I'm only upset cuz they don't offer the 3.6 in the Passat anymore.
Worst Ever
Bought a 2006 off craigslist. This car has been a piece of work since the day I bought it. So far we’ve put $10,000 in constant engine repairs. The MOST unreliable car there is. VW parts are very expensive and break often.

2.0t not bad, not great either
I've owned the car now for about 4 months. It's an ok driving car, I find there is a bit of a turbo lag. I have had the battery go dead after driving home from work one day, and the in dash CD player doesn't work, the screen reads "CDC Hardware Error" This is unbeleivable as I had a aftermarket CD player in my older car and never gave me any problems. I just find there is no WOW factor with this car. I am nervous after reading all the bad reviews about the fuel pump and other electrical issues. The steering wheel lock module was a recalled item by VW, so mine was fixed. Overall I think someday soon I will trade it and get something more age approprite for a 26 year old. Maybe a Mustang.
Wow
I looked at many cars like the BMW 525i, Saab 9-5, and Lincoln MKZ. The last car I had was an Audi S4 and we all know that was a hot car. I took out the VW for a test with the dealer sitting next to me so I didn't really give it a test. The dealer gave me a fair price and I took the car home. That when I realized that this was not just a family car. This car was more fun then the S4 because when your driving an S4 around town you can get yourself in trouble quickly so you tend to drive more reserved. The VW 2.0T is just a hot fun car.
Piece of junk with great seats!
Leased the car brand new in the Fall of 2005. Yea, they used 2005 parts in this piece of junk 2006 VW Passat. The 2005 had more recalls though, FUNNY THING! I've had nothing but problems since 31,000 miles. Parts breaking left and right. The hubs were toast at 60,000 miles. Really? I mean rusted through. The interior started to deteriorate at 20,000 miles and it was out of warranty by then because of the year. RUST began to show on the outside of the car at 40,000. The engine repeatedly seized in the winter time as early as 40,000 miles. In Europe they recalled this same vehicle for many many more issues than the US did and they were all built from the SAME PARTS! Yea, pretty sad.
people are so cheap
This car is great mine is at 160 k miles the inside of my buttons and locks buttons did peel and bubble but its only a 50$ fix... People complain about the up keep costing so much but ITS A VOLKSWAGEN! It is not an american car repairs cost more the engine is not regular its all new technology if you cant afford up keep you shouldnt buy a foreign car. Its like buying a name brand purse to look rich but not having any cash in it. [non-permissible content removed]

I Love the Volkswagen Passat
I Love this Volkswagen Passat based on its performance style and appearance. Some people have even said that my car look so sophicated for the road.
Psst. Passat
I don't understand why so many Accords and Camrys continue to be sold when, for a little extra, a Passat can be had. Clearly the best value in a vehicle that we have owned and one of the best vehicles we have owned, period. And, that goes back a ways, folks.
This Car Rocks!
I just traded in my 2004 Passat GLS for a new 2006 Passat. Just when you think VW has topped what it can do, it pulls this one out. This Passat is the BEST one yet. It has kick but power in the 4-cylinder motor! The new design is AWESOME and the interior is roomier and the design Kicks. I drove the Audi, Honda, and Altima before this car. The only car that comes close is the Audi and you pay much less for the Passat. Go test drive the car and I guarantee you will leave the lot with one.
Awesome car
This is my first VW and I am totally hooked. Not only is the dealer first class but the car has been the most reliable I've ever owned. I now have 39,000 miles on it and have not put one dime into it except for tires and oil changes. It still looks as good as the day I bought it and the body is as solid as ever. I still get huge compliments on this car. I highly recommend this car!
Where do I start ?
I thought was getting a good german car.To my suprize I have been in the service department more than I have ever had with any car before. I have so much repairs done on my Passat it sits in my Garage. I you my more reliable RAV 4 to get me where I have to go. Thank you VW :( for a great buy!!!
Passat Obsession
I absolutely love my 2006 Passat 2.0T! I am a first time VW owner and I am blown away. You can not beat the value, styling and satisfaction of this vehicle. I test drove a Honda Accord, a Nissan Atima and a Toyota Camry and there is no comparison. I bought a Mocha Brown, Package 1 and I look around the cabin in amazement at how upscale this vehicle looks. I can't wait to get the windows tinted! For the first time ever, I feel like I have purchased the right vehicle for myself and at an excellent price. I keep reading about VW reliability being less than stellar, I only hope that is a thing of the past.
Major Ride
Normally get rid of a car that I've purchased after 2 years. This one is a keeper. Fun factor over rides the fixes it has needed that were covered under warranty. Headlamps that bend were replaced, & auto 6 speed was flashed. Well optioned sedan that is almost the size of an A6. Only thing missing is cabin adjustable suspension. Kudos to VW. Rides super and will put a smile on my face when I ask her to respond. Picking up second Passat in two days - an 08 Lux Wagon 2.0T (chain driven) that is also optioned very nicely. Replacing our '03 Allroad. Really - No baloney/just lean venison and buffalo :-)
excellent car
I have this car for almost a year,I've never have any problem. VW is the one I love, and this one is the best.I had three more VW before and definitely love them.
Love my 2006 Passat
I am surprised that my 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T's engine is so powerful. I've experienced no drag at all. So far it's been the best car purchase I've ever made. Not only does it get great gas mileage and fit three teens comfortably in the backseat, all my kids' friends love it! That is a major feat if your teen thinks your car is cool.
2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T!
What a car for the money! The 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T has luxury, a beautiful ride, and so many extras that I didn't even know about until I got home! I love it! It is so roomy and comfortable!
I love this car!!!
For my first VW the passat was a no brainer! The speed and sleekness of this car makes me feel like I am sitting in First Class when driving!
nightmare
I've had my 06 passat for almost three years but i has caused me so many problems, I am always at the dealership, it started with my windows not rolling down and it spent about two weeks to be repaired. My carpet in the interior started tearing when it was a few months old, and is reaping again after it was fixed, tire pressure sensor is on and off, air bag failure, to major problems such at recall on fuel pressure sensor that has been replaced three different times, and now the camshaft and fuel pump has to be replaced.....this car is comfortable but not reliable everyday i drive im afraid is going to leave me stranded never again will i purchase a vw! hopefully this is helpful for whoever
Fun But Too Many Electrical Issues
My first VW. Purchased a 2006 Certified Passat Lux edition. Fun fast performing car. Mechanically sound, modern styling and dealer service was great, but in just under 2 years, I've had it in the shop about 12 times to fix electrical annoyances. I've owned BMW and Mercedes; for some reason, Germans can't get the electrical right. Also, alot of squeaks in cold weather. Gas mileage is great, but spent too much time at the dealership.
WOW
After seven years of driving a Chevy Cavalier, the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T feels like driving a Bentley. The interior is so roomy and luxurious even on the 2.0T package 1 model. The turbo engine is great on gas mileage and really has some kick. The only problem is that this car is going to get me a ticket, I don't even know that I'm driving 80+ MPH, it just wants to keep accelerating!
Love it
I bought this car used with 70,000 miles on it and so far it's been a joy to drive. As a college student, I enjoy having a unique car because noone my age has the same car as me. My friends are always surprised when they get in my car and find out how comfortable and spacious it is, not to mention how fast this car can go. I do have issues with the check engine light coming on but it goes away. I got the extended warranty so it's not a big deal to me. I've driven many different cars because I used to work at a car rental company and this is one of the best cars in its class. Also a great deal for a used car because of its depreciation. I'm probably buying another VW after this.
Passat Baby
I fell in love with the car immediately when I saw it. Then I took it for a test drive and knew I must have it. The car drives like a dream. It's big safe and sturdy. The key is my favorite part.
STAY AWAY!
I bought my 2006 Passat 2.0T loaded w/ everything but Navigation as a Certified PreOwned. Long story short. In the first 3 months of ownership car brokedown once and needed to be towed (electrical brake stuck and couldn't drive), transmission issues, buttons pealing, rear door wouldn't close shut, Tire Monitoring System Failure, and the list goes on. Car was down 27 days in first 3 months and VW put $5200 into it...thank God for the CPO warranty! Not to mention this car stickered for over $30K and now they want to give me $12K for trade in...what happened to VW resale. This Passat when working is much funner than Camry or Accord, and looks better IMO but just not worth the HEADACHE!
Great motor, High quality finishes, Fun
I can't complain about anything. I am in the honeymoon phase with my 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T for the time being. I have never driven a six speed manual, but it is simple and exhilarating. This car will probably not be good for maintaining my clean driving record. Several characteristics place this car above the mundane - the key fob, the rear entry into the trunk, umbrella holder (umbrella should have been included), access into the trunk from the rear seat through cupholders, lighted blinkers on side mirrors and styling. It has tons of standard features like power windows / doors / AC / cruise control / CD player etc... I'm hoping that the quality, reliability and condition will last. This seems to be a question mark at this time. So far, this car is great!
Value for the money!
Recently I bought a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T. It is a sweet ride, it's got the power when you need it! The 200HP under the hood makes the whole difference on at traffic lights! On the road it runs swiftly, although you have to watch the speed because you don't feel it! The automatic transmission (Tiptronic) is a nice option, but if you want a sporty ride - go with the 6-speed manual, that's what I bought. Another good thing is the fuel consumption. After I put gas in it, the computer shows that I have 510-520 miles to empty! It takes premium, but it's worth every penny! The roomy enterior seats four adults very comfortably. This car is made in Germany, and it makes a difference! If you want a good German car in mid the $20,000's, then that's the best choice.
VW vs. BMW
I own a 2005 BMW 530 with the Prem. and Spts Pkg. On 12/1/05 I bought a VW Passat 2.0 T Pkg. 2 with 17" wheels, Dynaudio, and mats. The car listed for $30,000. This car was for my wife, but now we seem to like the VW as we go out in it more than in the BMW. For the size of the engine, it is probably the best for the money. I highly recommend the car. I am thinking about getting a 3.6 All Whell Drive Passat with GPS ($40,000). It seems to run like a BMW 550i for $22,000 less.
I'm out
Replaced 2 steering columns hard shifting transmission peeling interior paint burns oil - 1 quart/1000 miles suspension noises uneven tire wear replace two ignition coils lumbar problems the list goes on and on I traded it in - I am soooo happy to be out of that car
Needs Better Build Quality
I decided to make a switch from Japanese vehicle to the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T after all the glowing reviews. Most have been spot on, but I must say I'm very disappointed with the build quality. The interior materials have a very cheap feel to them (especially the audio / control dashboard). I also hear small rattles coming out of dashboard and doors everytime I hit small potholes. Otherwise the car is a joy to drive.
Volkwagen Oil Consumption
Our 2006 Passat has been a nightmare. We have had the car in the shop 15-16 times for the replacement of peeling switches, recall fixes, but most important oil consumption problems. I noticed after the first oil change the car was using 1-1.5 quarts of oil every 5k. I was told normal by Volkswagen dealer. It has gotten worse and a 5k oil consumption test showed 3 quarts per 5k. Most recently they are performing a 1000k test but no acknowledgment of a problem. I am done with Volkswagens once I get rid of this one. Recommend Honda, Toyota or Nissan to prospective buyers.
Vdub
I previously owned a 98' passat and loved it, even though it gave me nothing but problems. I Recently got the 2006 passat and all i can say is WOW. I am uber pleased with what i got. The original owner paid $32,000.00 and with only 39560 miles on it i managed to get the price from 21k to a simple 16k. By far the best car i have invested in. I love the power and performance. I suggest you use Amsoil Full synthetic oil 5w 40 European blend. It makes the power of the 225hp and turbo show through with amazing up and down shifts also helps car start immediately in cold. This will not be my last Volks. I think that this car will out last my last on. the Germans know how to engineer. Buy one!!
Possible Headache with Nightmare
The sideview mirros are smaller and you can misjudge your clearance to pass. The engine valve are louder ....have had 3 recalls. I took it back and the claim it was repaired.. it is louder. The driver's side door is warped! The front speakers in the door are crackling...no one told you could put change in the top tray.. which fell down behind the dash.. no telling what damage that will cause.. get this you can't slide them out.. after I pay this off ... I am going back to Nissan...
Lots of faults
Had the car since new. I have had an endless run of problems with the car combined with incompetent VW Australia Servicing. Problems include: Turbo PCV valve failed (at 12 months) Coil packs failed (at 18 months) Drivers elec window failed (numerous times) AC compressor failed (at 2 years) Brake pedal switch failed (causing intermittent complete power loss to engine computer!) Steering column/convenience unit failed (3.5 years) Brakes replaced at 20,000km Paint peeled off drivers door handle Battery failed at 2 years Suspension noisy over bumps I'll never buy another VW, and I've already turned several friends off getting one when I explain the problems I have had. Worst ownership exp. ever.
VW at it's best!
The 2006 Volkswagen Passat Value Edition is wonderful! It has a smooth ride, great handling, so many safty features, and great gas milage!
Good engineering but poor reliability
I was looking for the car with a good performance, fuel mileage, design, and dependability. And closest car I came upon was this redesigned Passat. I was satisfied with engine performance and fuel mileage but I had to deal with too many quality problems. From water leak, multiple check engine lights (some are due to same issue), noises, and paint peeling. I have filed for lemon law after VW ignored/refused to meet with me. After decided to take the settlement for cash and I traded for another car.
Awesome
As an avid VW enthusiast, I decided to upgrade my much-loved Beetle to a roomier more powerful car. I'm a VW girl, but I still looked at the Chrysler 300C, Honda Accord, BMW 330, Mercedes-Benz, etc and after test driving the Passat, I'm still a VW girl. The car is so smooth and powerful. I love listening to music, so the Dynaudio with XM radio is otherwordly. It is the best sound system that I've ever had. If you are in the market for a mid-size sedan, you simply must take the Passat for a test drive, you will not be disappointed. The other reviewers are right on the money. I added aftermarket rims and tint; people don't even know what it is. this car is awesome. What a Christmas present to myself!
Fun, but a few issues!
I've seen a lot of people mention the tire pressure sensor light going off all the time. There is a small washer that sits against the pressure sensor. Sometimes that washer gets bent which will let air leak from your tires. Ever since I found out about that and replaced the washers, I've had no tire pressure issues. The car is wonderful, fun to drive, comfortable, and solid. There are so many airbags and the frame is solid, the doors are heavy, etc. I love my Passat. There have been problems with the transmission jerking, electrical malfunctions, etc. It's a pain, but I still love the car.
Number One Nightmare
This is the worst car I have ever owned. It is my second Passst. Drove a '99 for 160K miles. It has been one tragedy after another. It has been one major fubar after another. Between electrical component failures, to bad electronic ignitions and keys to having both the engine and transmission go out at 81,000 miles. Volkswagen of America had the audacity to offer me a $1000 rebate on a purchase of my next VW. I am so frustrated I don't know what to do. I have kept up on the service, why not since its been in the shop so often. You will not see me even coming close to a VW lot for the rest of my life.
Best New Car I have Ever Purchased
My 2006 Volkswagen Passat Value Edition has a great ride. It has a lot of rear leg room. Its quality is great inside and out. This is my first Volkswagen and I love it.
Volkswagen Passat 2.0T
The 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is a great car to drive everyday. It makes the day more fun because it is so fast and has such a great supseption.
