Perfect car for SOME people

We are an active, retired couple who love to travel. No need for 3rd row seats, looking for comfort, safety assistance, and fuel efficiency. We bought the upgraded seat package, but didn’t want the moonroof. Also opted to use Apple Play & our phones for navigation because write-ups indicated the 12” screen w/nav was overly complicated versus the 8” screen w/o nav. Wanted a good audio system, but didn’t need the upgraded one. Also, nav & upgraded audio not worth the upcharges. This car is PERFECT for us. It rides almost as well as our Lexus RX, and the seats are almost as comfortable. That says a lot. Car handles beautifully, and the drivers assist package is excellent. Makes longer interstate trips a breeze. Cargo space is not huge, but enough space for 4 adults to travel very comfortably, and carry luggage for a week long trip.

I went from a BMW X3 m40i to this car. From the first week I had the BMW, I had issues with the brakes, the electronics, total engine shutdown, and the list goes on. Yes, it was fun to drive (when it was running) but I was tired of being a frequent flier at the local BMW service center. My family and friends have Toyotas and can vouch for their reliability, so I began researching the new Venza. I wasn't a fan of the old Venza station wagon but really liked the new body style. I test drove the car and found it had all of the qualities I wanted (Toyota reputation/reliability, excellent fuel economy, great safety features, nice ride, comfortable seats, and decent power). Before the test drive I was worried this car wouldn't have enough power, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's not going to win you any races but the car has enough guts to get you moving and pass others when needed. The interior could use more storage space/cubbies, and the center stack could be better designed (the power button is in an odd spot, and the placement of the wireless charger is a bit awkward), but overall is well appointed, clean and comfortable. The seats are so comfortable - but keep in mind the passenger's seat does not come with lumbar support. There's plenty of cargo space in the back, as long as you aren't planning to haul large items on a regular basis. If you need more cargo space, the RAV4 or CR-V might be better options. I'm not crazy about the button-less infotainment screen, but found it's very intuitive to use and access what's needed. For stereo volume, I use the volume knobs on the steering well & that works well. Although Apple CarPlay/Android Auto are not wireless, they're accessible via a USB and very easy to set-up. Now, the overall positives: gas mileage (using regular gas) is incredible; the car is quiet and the ride is very smooth and compliant; the steering and brakes are excellent and the brakes are better than other hybrid brakes I've tried; the seats are comfortable and driving position is excellent; as for the negatives: although there's sufficient power, it could always use more; there is some wind noise at highway speeds; the rear turn signals sit in the lower bottom portion of the car, vs higher-up, and the headlights could be brighter. But those are minor gripes for what I feel is a great overall car.

Seeing if I'm a Hybrid type of guy

This is my first SUV, and purchased because my wife wanted a vehicle that we could take a trip in, with comfort and adequate storage space. We needed only a 5-seater as it's just us and a few furry kids, so the Venza checked all the boxes. Took delivery of my Venza limited last week so these are my initial impressions. I was hesitant to purchase at first as I would not consider myself the typical hybrid owner/driver and I live in the foothills of my community so coming from a 2.0 turbo vehicle, I never worried about having enough power to climb these hills to my home... I have to say the 2.5 combined with the electric motors has more than met my expectations. The quality and features of this car are fantastic, near luxury without snobbery. My car has all features except the panoramic moonroof, while a really cool feature I figured I would be enamored for about a month and then likely wouldn't use it , similar to the panoramic roof on my former vehicle. Surprisingly although only a week in I've been achieving the EPA gas mileage estimate, the car has several display screens that encourage conservation. I tend to drive more highway mileage so the 40+MPG likely will not be an ongoing reality. While my salesman gave me a brief overview of the set-up for infotainment and safety type settings, I've been able to mostly set-up these to my preference and they work beautifully. The safety suite of features are on par with many of the luxury brands The lane keep assist can be easily turned off and on so I'm not constantly bothered when I forget to use my turn signal when changing a lanes in very light traffic other features allow me to turn on or off or adjust their sensitivity. The 360 degree camera is great and while the navigation resolution is below par it is more than adequate... have not really used yet but apparently with real time updates its going to be great and once you get use to the large 12" screen it is very intuitive to use and modify. No complaints yet on the lack of knobs to control the climate and radio... like many have said, you will use to it but you definitely need to keep a microfiber wipe available to clean the fingerprints from the touch screen

Venza is a Lexus 350

Traded in my 2016 Rav 4 Hybrid Limited for the 2021 Venza Limited w/o the moonroof. As a big fan of the Toyota Safety features this Venza has sensors for about any fender bender & up imaginable. The cameras are awesome including the front end view & 360 look around. I like the Technology, 12” screen & navigation, easy to use.Toyota throws in the first year on Safety Connect that connects your Venza to basically an OnStar type service. You can lock ,unlock ,start the car etc..roadside assistance, enhanced navigation, etc..The sound proofing makes a huge difference over my Rav 4..Enhances the JBL sound system..quiet ride, smooth acceleration, with 42 mpg on avg so far..but I do baby it..I test drove a 2021 Lexus RX 350 (gas) prior to the Venza & couldn’t justify the 10k additional price..All in all a Safe, solid, high tech , great mpg, attractive crossover..And its got a JT vin #..Made & Assembled 100% in Japan..excellent quality control..

Very quiet, smooth stable ride. I like how the engine shuts off coasting, braking, or stopped at a light. It make very very little sound or vibration when the gas motor starts/stops. I have driven conventional gas (non-hybrid) vehicles with auto engine stop/start that are very annoying. I was at bit concerned about the added complexity of a hybrid, but Toyota has been making hybrids since 1997 and they got it down. Super comfortable and supportive seats. Some have complained about lack of space under rear lift gate, but it works for me just fine. Note: I can store a large amount of tools UNDER the carpeted rear deck lid, in and around the spare tire that I need for my work. Bonus: These are completely hidden under the deck lid and out of view! I am averaging 44.3 mpg (60% city driving) for first 5300 miles. I would have like to had a sunglass holder and additional cubby space...LE model is the one to get (has all the safety features and a better info display. Paid $28,800 (Sales tax not included) at the end of April 2021. Glad I got it when I did! Note: I have access to AllDataPro.com and there are very few Technical Service Bulletins for the Venza!

Less cargo than the RAV4 hybrid , but when comparing the LE trim on both the Venza is the clear winner. Automatic lift gate open with the swing of the foot. Electric driver seat, bigger console screen, quieter ride...etc. this is why I chose the Venza LE over other trims as well, you really get a lot of bang for your buck. One of the complaints of the higher trim levels is the lack of knobs for all the climate, volume and inside controls. Not so in the LE trim, it has physical and luxurious knobs!! The ride is much smoother than the RAV 4, as well. The transition between gas and electric is much less noticeable in the Venza, thanks to more insulation. Even the glass used in the Venza is higher quality than in the RAV. I got the Venza for just $500 more than the RAV 4 hybrid LE. Totally worth it.

I purchased the Limited Venza 21 purchased in Nov 2020. My first SUV, we traded in our Camry and only have good things to say. Still getting used to the very smart screen, and I’m adjusting to the flat ‘no buttons’ controls. Overall it’s sleek, modern, smart, and very savvy on gas. I’m close to my job but I’m gassing every 2 months, that’s 50% less than what I used to pay, My insurance also went down 45% I never had that experience before with any other car. Only negative is less cargo, but it’s just me and the hubby so it’s ok. No regrets.

Comfortable, quiet, high MPG

We've owned our Venza for three months now and love it! The ride is smooth, comfortable, and quiet. It feels predictable and safe. We're hitting 38-42 MPG around town depending on the trip, and 40-45 MPG on the freeway depending on speed and traffic. Note: using ECO mode adds about 3 MPG compared to normal mode. The acceleration is a bit more muted, but I only drive ECO now. I actually prefer the handling of ECO; it makes for smoother starts from stop signs. Obviously, the external styling is sharp too. We're empty-nesters and the cargo space is more than sufficient for us but is smaller than others. If cargo room is a priority, look at the RAV4. (The tradeoff is that interior of the RAV4 is not as luxurious. The Venza is almost Lexus-like). If sporty handling is important, consider the Mazda CX-5. A couple of other notes. The gas tank does have a reserve of about 3 gallons when you reach "empty." After I get a full tank, I typically show about 470 miles to go. It's great to get that kind of range and know you still have an ample reserve. The 470 miles is much higher than other cars I've driven so I'm fine with it. Also, I think the sweet spot is the XLE trim with the standard 8 inch screen. This trim has physical controls for radio volume/tuning and climate control, and IMO looks better too. The 12 inch touchscreen is harder to adjust while you're driving. Though the XLE costs $3K more than the LE, I think it was worthwhile. The XLE comes with several features that are missing in the LE: front/rear bumper sensors with automatic braking (Toyota's mysteriously calls this parking assist; it keeps you from hitting things you can't see or can't judge the distance), projector headlights which are much brighter than the reflector headlights in the LE; a larger driver display with more info ("MID"), HomeLink garage door opener built in the rear view mirror, Softex-fabric combo seats instead of all fabric seats (feels like leather and the feel is not much different than the all Softex seats in the Limited IMO), seat adjustment memory for two drivers, and a few others. I found that moving from the LE to the XLE yielded features that were important to me and weren't just "nice to have."

Been driving my Venza Limited for 6 months now with Zero issues, Although it's no race car, the acceleration is a big step up from the second generation Chevy Equinox I was driving. Driving in sport mode acceleration is nice. I didn't even bother trying to pass slow moving vehicles in my Equinox. Even when driving aggressively I'm averaging 36mpg. My best is about 52mpg for a short 20 mile trip across town and back. Toyota has been using this platform and engine for nearly 3 years (Harrier in Japan) so don't be fearful about buying a first model year. The safety features are a big step up as well. Perhaps the biggest compliment other than a droning engine when pushed hard is that you don't even realize you're driving a hybrid most of the time. The regenerative braking is extremely smooth. The seats are extremely comfortable and the JBL sound system sounds great. The Venza is much quieter than the RAV4s that I test drove before purchasing my Venza. It's not Lexus quiet, but having the extra sound deadening makes the audio system sound even better. It does lack handy storage and has less cargo space than a RAV4, but the interior looks WAY nicer. I studied up on the eCVT before purchasing. It is absolutely nothing like a standard CVT which has a metal belt that eventually wears out. Although it doesn't have gears like a standard transmission it does have gears rather than a belt. Weber State University has this excellent video discussing the hybrid transaxle which is really a better term for the transmission in this vehicle: https://youtu.be/O61WihMRdjM We received about 8 to 10 inches of snow right before spring came so I took my Venza out to test its all wheel drive function in the fresh snow and I couldn't get it to handle poorly no matter how hard I tried. The computer system would send power to the appropriate wheels extremely quickly to keep the car driving straight. I like the fact that there is no mechanical drivetrain connecting the back wheels just an electric motor that is computer controlled. After 6 months and about 6,000 MI I'm still extremely pleased with my Toyota Venza purchase. If you're thinking of a hybrid (and you should be) this should be on your short list.

RAV4 Hybrid with more luxury, less practicality

Edison Yuan, 08/08/2021
2021 Toyota Venza XLE 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
67 of 70 people found this review helpful

My wife and I had the Venza XLE for about three month. We originally wanted to look at the RAV4 Hybrid/Prime but they are very hard to come by in these times, so we settled on the Venza. First off, this is the first ever hybrid we ever owned. My wife and I are able to get around 43 MPG tank average which is better than the EPA MPG figures. I liked how the power delivery is very smooth as there are no gear changes. Toyota did a great job in isolating power source (gas/electric) transitions and I don't feel distracted when using the gas pedal. The acceleration is okay in the Venza. It's not too slow but it's not great either. The engine sounds at bit loud at times. I believe this comes from the engine switching between port/direct fuel injection and Otto/Atkinson to optimize efficiency. I don't mind this tradeoff. When it comes to braking, I'm impressed how Toyota managed to blend regen and friction braking so well. I had driven other people's hybrid cars that had bad blending and the brakes felt grabby. Handling seems okay for an SUV. I have yet to try the eAWD system's capabilities. On highways, I noticed very little wind noise, but I noticed there is significant road noise. Since I could not test drive on the highway, I noticed this first time on my first commute with the Venza. I am hearing lots of harsh tire/pavement noise. I strongly believe Toyota should do more to address this as they know how to build Lexus vehicles known for their quietness. In my opinion, anything in the upper $30K range should not have this much road noise. This vehicle is packed with luxury features like parking sensors, power folding mirrors, and memory seat. My wife really likes how luxurious the vehicle is in terms of exterior and interior appearance. I even took my Venza and showed it to a friend who once had a Lexus RX 350. He said that many of the elements of the RX are present in my Venza, but there were more cost cutting measures evident in the Venza. For example, memory functions only are for the seat and not the side mirrors. Also, the sliding mechanism of the vanity mirror cover is not as smooth as that on the RX. There is also more hard plastic present in the interior. Of course, these things are to be expected since the Venza costs less. Now on to the bad stuff. First, the infotainment system seems outdated. The menus are very laggy and the screen is not very good by today's standards. There are only USB-A ports which is a shame in 2021 new vehicles. Now, I have to buy USB-A to USB-C/Apple cables to connect current phones. The rear turn signals should be more prominent and mounted higher. I feel it's a safety disadvantage when changing lanes. The front turn signals on the other hand are really nice looking. When I go over bumps, I have to slow down a lot. Otherwise, the vehicle will make some disturbing sound like I broke something metallic. I am guessing the sound came from the suspension. Lastly, I'm not happy that Toyota makes the front passenger power seat on the XLE trim optional while the driver's seat has memory. Toyota's practice of using options on every trim level just makes car shopping more complicated. I was not able to get power front passenger seat unless I buy the higher trim or shop around other dealerships on the XLE trim. It's even worse when there is an ongoing vehicle shortage. For shoppers, I think it's important to know that the current Venza is more of a premium (not luxury) compact crossover that's good for commutes/errands than a midsize crossover that's good for family trips. I wouldn't consider the Venza as an entry that slots between the RAV4 and Highlander. The interior is not that big, I wouldn't try to go on a road trip with more than 4 people or even more than 3 people if luggage is involved. The cargo floor is high up and the sloped tailgate cuts out usage cargo space. I think even small families should look at midsize crossovers with bigger interior such as the Highlander or better yet a minivan if they don't need offroad capabilities. My wife and I have the latter. This brings me to another point. In the owner's manual, it says that the Venza is not designed for off-roading (off-road only if unavoidable) and that snow chains cannot be mounted (mine has the bigger tires). Also, the Venza cannot tow. The good: great fuel economy, Toyota reliability and made in Japan, premium interior, low wind noise, plenty of luxury features, premium styling, comfortable seats The bad: too much road noise at highway speeds, outdated and laggy infotainment, rear turn signals mounted low and not very visible, suspension makes disturbing metallic noise on bumps unless going very slow, not much cargo room with second row up

Exchanged my gas guzzling SUV for this sleek, hybrid SUV. It’s beautiful inside and out. It has enough HP so it’s fast on the highway and still gets great MPG. The basic model comes with plenty of options and they are all hybrid and AWD no matter which one you choose.

The camera with the technology package is incredibly useful. The Birds eye view for parking lots and the garage is invaluable for parking in tight areas. I know exactly where my bumpers are. As a woman, I appreciate the 360 view when parked to check my surroundings. The digital rear view mirror gives me complete coverage of all lanes behind me, it is the best for safety, with no blind spots. I love no knobs on the infotainment center, the push button to talk takes care of all my needs, along with the up and down volume control, all on the steering wheel. The stargazer window is great when opaque for our hot summers and the air cooled seat are wonderful. I love this car.

Formally owned an RX450 H and considered going back to another 450H or NX model, but test drove this Venza. The Venza has not disappointed and we love it. The acceleration is better than the NX and maybe even the RX 450h and the gas mileage is so much better. We also saved a bunch of money picking it over the Lexus. The ride and smooth and quiet and the interior is very comfortable and well laid out. It’s a little smaller than the RX, but it’s fine for our family of 4 to go on a week long vacation. Great hybrid SUV.

We bought the Limited. We have only had it for a week. A little more road noise than I would;d like. Comfortable ride. My wife was getting mid 40's around town . We were getting about 39 on the drive from Florida to New Jersey. The interior is similar to a Lexus that we had. It only has one 12v socket and it is inside the center console. Another one somewhere on the dash would be nice. The hybrid system seems to be noisier when pulling in or out of the garage. This is a nice vehicle for people that don't have to haul a bunch of things around.

LE is best bang for your buck!!

2021 Toyota Venza LE 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I purchased Venza LE a couple of weeks ago. I was initially in the market for a Hybrid compact SUV and test drove the RAV4 hybrid and felt like a solid vehicle, but has engine noise as my Prius does. The electric hum also quite noticeable when the car runs on pure EV. However, I was not fully convinced to pay the full price of the RAV4 XLE hybrid with convenience and all-weather packages - it didn't justify my budget. I am glad that I found a slightly-used around 3K miles ( by the dealer, sold as a new to me), probably used it for test drives and/or by a salesperson(s). I negotiated it for a whopping 10% off the dealer's invoice price that came below the MSRP of RAV4 Hybrid LE. I am happy with the car for the following four reasons: 1) Very quiet ride and up-class interior and overall style. 2) Available push-button interface (unlike XLE and Limited) 3) Standard features in LE such as remote start, wireless phone charger, leather wrap steering wheel, heated mirrors, electronic tilt-telescopic steering wheel, electronic driver-seat controls, and auto rare hatch lift-gate. 4) Superb fit and finish - it is assembled in Japan. But it has its negatives too: 1) lacks in the trunk cargo capacity compared to RAV4, that's my compromise - even though it's not as bad I thought 2) Looks small, but it is not and, 3) Visibility is not as great as RAV4; with all the sensors around the car, it easy to drive nevertheless. Here are some of my personal views in this regard 1) The RAV4 hybrid is not going to satisfy consumers considering its standard features and the price point - it's insane!! Look at how premium CRV or Mazda CX5 or new Rogue comparatively feels. 2) This is where exactly Venza competes, however with a higher price tag. Consider Venza as a compact SUV and a redesigned next-generation RAV4 hybrid. 3) Keep Venza LE as an option if you are shopping for a RAV4 hybrid for better value - there is a price overlap compared to RAV4 LE/XLE and easy to negotiate!! I will keep updating this review as my car gets older

I splurged and got the Limited version. Not that I had a choice: It was the last one left and another customer was giving it a hungry look. I like the looks a lot. It is Lexus-like but quite distinct. Where I live Lexuses are dime-a-dozen; as common as Subarus in a ski town. The Venza is much less common - so far. They are only made in Japan so the quality is tops and evident. This thing gets WAY better MPG than advertised. While it gets what it advertises in the cold winter, come spring, summer and fall MPG is off the charts: 44 highway 53 in town. And this is not an itty-bitty Prius! If I have a criticism, its peculiar to me: Too much tech for this driver to deal with. If texting while driving is considered dangerous, this car can be just as dangerous. Changing the radio station requires a PhD (or a 13 year old tech wizard in the passenger seat). The 12" wide color touch screen is over-the-top in its flexibility and complexity. It tells you way more than you need to know: the nearest gas station, where to get a massage (if the heated seats aren't doing the trick for you) and which local pizzeria has curry-chicken-lentil topping. I found a display setting I like and leave it alone. Speaking of over-the-top: The Star Gazer roof is the ultimate wiz-bang option that will have your passengers going "WOAH! THIS CAR IS SOOOO COOL!" Read up on what it does. Amaze your friends. Make your rivals green with envy. The Venza handles well - very predictably - no surprises. It's not bothered by extreme cross winds, snow, ice, slush, heavy rain - if you have the right tires. Warning: My car came with terrible OEM tires - in fact the poorest rated all season tires on TireRack.com. I changed them out immediately. There is plenty of power when you want to blow the doors off a 300 series BMW. (A BMW 500 or 700 series, however, will blow your doors off.) So what's missing? Cargo space. My previous car was a Honda CRV. The Venza has less cargo space. It's not terrible, but you won't be bringing home a refrigerator from Lowes. Also missing: meaningful towing capability - which my CRV actually had. But I'm at a different time of my life now. I don't need an all-purpose kid, tool and building supply hauler anymore. Groceries, a few suitcases and a snowboard or two are about all that I put in the back. And the dog. I drive mostly by myself or with my wife and occasionally with a couple of adult friends in the back seats (very nice seats by the way). This is a car for people in their 40's and older whose kids have their own cars or may also have a pick-up truck for heavy duty dirty work.

Gas sipper

The Venza is back after a 6 year absence, only nobody seems to know what it is. To me it doesn’t fit the SUV tag, lacking the utility of most vehicles in this category. Based on the Rav4, it doesn’t approach the useable room found in that model. That said, one good thing carried over is the identical hybrid system. I was drawn to the vehicle for several reasons, hybrid technology, fit & finish, style, car like handling. It has not disappointed although the tradeoff comes in functionality. There’s less room inside despite its size when compared to others, partly due to the swoopy styling. No cubbies or tie-downs in the rear, lets the groceries run around and chase one-another. Two items make this an outstanding vehicle. Of course it features AWD, the drive train is pure mechanical genius. The switch from battery power to engine is flawless. A recent 20 mile leisurely jaunt on country roads netted 46 MPG! That’s on a vehicle just short of 4,000lbs. Regenerative braking is barely noticeable. Liked the fact I was able to buy a luxury vehicle without a moon roof I’d seldom if ever use. The nicest surprise was the JBL audio system that comes with the 12” head unit. Optional on the XLE, standard on the Limited model. The sound and clarity is amazing, has to be heard to be believed. Last but not least is the technology part, an obvious prelim to self-driving vehicles. The vehicle reads road signs along with lane guidance. Way too much stuff to cover in this short review. I’d say seniors, empty nesters will be the ideal candidate for this vehicle. This isn’t designed for a young family with kids and a dog. The price of admittance will likely be a consideration. Additional thoughts after 6 months ownership. While not a perfect vehicle, its operation is extremely smooth. The transmission is more like an electric vehicle, no gear changing as you move up to highway speed. The power is steady and adequate for lane merging on interstates. Estimated mileage is lower than what I achieve on a regular basis. It is always between 45 and 47 MPG at fill up. Truly amazing... Follow up: One year of ownership -15K miles. I've adapted to a touch screen over knobs, debatable which is better or easier to use. My largest dislike is the location of frequently used controls such as the steering wheel heater and rear hatch not being easily visible. Even the gas cap release is hard to see at night until you open the driver door. Just seems the design emphasis is on pretty rather than functional. Had to make a tire change in January due to an alignment issue I missed tearing up the front end. Got away from the low rolling resistance model that was noisy, plus I wanted a better all weather aspect. Yes it did cut the milage by 2 or 3 MPG's.

Outrageous value compared to Lexus

I traded in my Lexus lease and went "downmarket." Hardly... I don't care about "speed," and I'm doing no slalom courses. I care about technology and comfort. I'm surprised Lexus didn't scoop this up as an updated NX or RX. It blows both out of the water, particularly in the Limited trim (I opted out of the fancy roof). This is gorgeous inside and out and as comfortable as any of the four Lexus cars I've owned (not to mention the many I've driven as "loaners" during servicing). Quick tip: If your leasing from Lexus and nearing the end of your lease, the Toyota dealership should be able to handle your trade-in with minimal hassle.

Great crossover for people with average height

2021 Toyota Venza LE 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

This is a great crossover, I wouldn't call it a SUV because it's not really designed for off-road driving. I test drove both Rav4 and Venza. But I chose Venza for the smoother sedan-like ride. Fuel economy is great. I get 45-47 MPG. It really depends on how you drive but I know how to maximize the MPG (because I used to own Prius). My trim, LE, comes with so many standard features and I didn't feel like I needed to go for higher trims. I knew I would never use moonroof, I was really happy to find a car with so many features without moonroof. Only con is the head space. I'm ok because I'm 5'7". But it seems the ceiling would be too close to your heads if you are over 6' tall. Especially, the passenger seat is not height adjustable (at least for LE trim). I was looking for a SUV to replace the Prius because Prius is pretty small so, it can be in blind spots easily (I was about to be hit by bigger SUVs on the interstate so many times). But I wasn't crazy for the stiff rides and the wind noise due to the height. So, Venza is the perfect fit for me.

Wonderful driving especially for people with bad backs. Drives like a Lexus RX in my opinion. Brakes are a bit at times. Annoying. Difficult to see some controls as the starting wheel blocks view Have a flashlight in car for night use to see some controls lower than steering wheel. Car is great for a person with back problems. Easy to get into and out. Heated seats are wonderful

I own a limited trim, without the optional frost/no frost skylight. I like the steering, braking, and accelerating. The cameras for parking and avoiding garage door collisions are clear and useful. The lane centering works well, though it often goes off because it can’t find the lane markers. Likewise the adaptive cruise control loses the vehicle in front more easily than my Subaru. Altogether, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 needs work. There is some occasional buzzing of the steering wheel I don’t understand. There also is too much wind noise on the highway. I have no complaints about the CVT, nor braking nor switching from battery to gas operation nor tap-tap-tapping to adjust sound volume fan speed et cetera. On a 500 mile trip, seat remained comfortable despite 36” legs! Watch your head getting in and out of the passenger seat, but fine once inside.

We had a RAV4 and enjoyed it for five years. We consider a new RAV4 but were very impressed with the styling of the Venza. We drove both 2021 RAV4 and Venza and felt the Venza was quieter, offered a better ride and more amenities. We took the Venza on a long trip right after we bought it and we’re not disappointed. We are very happy with it.

Nice ride and happy with purchase

I purchased the LE model. I'm about 5'6, and getting in and out you have to watch your head, so I lowered my seat and it is fine now. If you are taller, you may want to purchase the XLE or Limited since the seats lower and move back after you turn-off the car for easier exit and entry. I thought the seats were a little firm, so I purchased seat pads from amazon. They look great like they are part of the seats (like a pillow-top mattress). Of course, this means you cannot use the heated seats settings, but I never do anyway. I noticed that when I play the radio a little too loud, the bass makes the dashboard buzz. I turned-down the bass, and I don't blast my radio anymore. I wish there was a sunglasses holder like I have in my Lexus ES330 (this is the only thing that really bugs me). So, I keep my sunglasses in the area where you can charge your iPhone. The ride is nice and I like the handling. I keep my Venza in sport mode, so the acceration is very good. The braking is good, also. I'm getting about 40 mpg. It also has a great turning radius. After having the car for about two months, my battery died. I hadn't driven it for a few days, but I am pretty sure I must have left the vanity mirror light on. Since then, I haven't had any problems with the battery, and I have left it sitting for two weeks (I was on vacation). I've had this car since last October, and I am very happy with my purchase. I enjoy driving it. My longest drive was to Disneyland (100 miles), and it was a very comfortable drive.

I've had my Venza for better than four months now. During this time I've really gotten to know this wonderful SUV. The heated steering wheel is really appreciated on a cold morning with no gloves on. The frosted sunroof that clears at the touch of a button is something my wife loves. However, the main reason you buy a vehicle is for performance or economy. The Venza gives you both with a toggle of that little silver piece of metal to the right of center and forward on your console. You have three options economy 39.8 miles to the gallon without trying. This though would give you the feeling you're driving a Prius. Toggle forward and you're in normal and the SUV comes to life. You don't have to stomp on it to stay with traffic. The vehicle quiets down and you're suddenly zipping around and the vehicle is now fun as you blast your Sirius to whatever music suits you on those nine JBL speakers. Fun still delivers 35.3 miles to the gallon. Do you really want to zip? Move the toggle to sport. The suspension firms slightly and the car really goes. No MPH because I didn't stay in the mode long because normal is almost as quick and I like the mid 30's gas mileage with prices through the roof on gas. Buy it because it's a hybrid, love it if you're willing to give up some gas mileage and have some real fun. The heated, ventilated seats are comfortable the vehicle is sharper in appearance than a Lexus and I just can't get over how much fun it is to drive. It does have an intelligent all-wheel drive system. It is heavy which means it doesn't get blown around in the wind. If the snow flies go back to economy and with the weight and all-wheel drive you will have a nimble little tank, to get you through the inclement weather. Finally, when you go to look, be prepared to be blown away, the vehicle appeals to all the right senses and it's a Toyota that doesn't look like one.

2 Yr. Update: I'm at 100,000 miles (I drive a lot) with ZERO issues. Factory tires lasted 70k miles. I've only paid for regular maintenance. Original Review: I’ve had my Venza Limited for a week, and I’m consistently getting 45- 46.5 mpg driving as I normally do (southern climate). I’m beyond thrilled at the mpg! It handles well and while Toyota’s safety features can be annoying, it’s practically self-driving on cruise. Many of the tech features are easier to understand after reading the manual and/or watching the tips/tricks videos online. The 360° camera is a dream. The upgraded seats are actual a/c, not just ventilated. My only complaint thus far is the cabin lighting. It’s really dim and there is no central dome light. I’ve struggled several times to find something in my purse and had to use my phone flashlight!

We were looking for a mid-size SUV / wagon type vehicle. We are in our 60's and wanted a reliable, comfortable, all wheel drive vehicle. And, it had to get good mileage. We had our selections down Subarus' Outback or Forester, Hondas' CRV, and Toyotas' RAV-4 . But wait ! Now comes the new Venza. Hands down, this one met most of our needs. I don't think ANY vehicle is perfect for everyone. But you owe it to yourself to test drive this one. We just returned from our first long drive (2250 mi.). Our average speed of 68mph returned 42.6 mpg ! I'm not missing our Prius or CRV at all. Hybrid, AWD, Great style, Safety and comfort. NOT a big family rig, but for 1 or 2 retiree's that don't live near a Lexus dealership or don't want to spend that much $$$, this was the one for us.

The good, you get Lexus level luxury in a Toyota that costs much less than the current NX300, but actually get more goodies than you would buying the Lexus. It is an incredible driving vehicle that I love more every time I drive it. I am really looking forward to the daily snow squalls I get hit with on my 53 mile commute. The bad, could have more cargo space, but in reality this isn't really targeted as being a family car. Could offer towing, but again same as above. This vehicle focuses on refinement over utility, and quite frankly it is perfect for some of us.

Smart looks? Check. Luxury touches so it could wear a Lexus badge? Check. Usual outstanding Toyota quality? check, check, check. Not to mention a plethora of safety features, all wrapped up in a body that looks as if a Lexus RX350 had mated with a Prius. Loved everything about the car, and even more so after driving it. The trim we wanted, Limited, referred to "blonde wood accents" although the sample we test-drove did not have those accent pieces. And then we thought about how we really use the vehicle. It is a packhorse, ready to carry several pieces of furniture at one time to kids who live 400 miles away. And we packed it totally to overflowing for a summer trip to Maine. But wait... that space for cargo in the new Venza is, well, minuscule compared to the previous generation (ended in 2015). That is what we are going to be replacing, our trusty 2012 Venza XLE. We could not, under any circumstance, make do with that small a storage space. And with that, we reluctantly left behind our vision of a new Venza in the garage. It is a space-age car without the space!

I have had over 50 cars. This one is near the top of the list. While some may compare this to a Lexus, it’s not nor was it meant to be. It is nicer than the NX hybrid since that still uses the previous generation motor from the RAV4. Why buy this? Great mpg. I get 45 highway and running around on a 38 mile loop average 52 at my mountain house. The cabin is relatively quiet but narrow compared to other suvs. I had a 2021 Passport Elite that was not as nice as this. The seats are comfortable and it is a very pleasant drive on trips. Having owned 3 Prius’s, this fits in well with more room. My decision was not between the RAV4 and this since I had that before and it is noisier. This is just a luxurious Toyota as is the Avalon.

First, let me say that this car is a show stopper. We chose the blue one, and I can't begin to count the number of people who have stopped me to tell me what a beautiful car it is. We traded our 2019 Sienna because we wanted better gas mileage and a car we could get in and out of a little easier, we're both 75 and a little less spry than we used to be. We loved our Sienna, but we are finding the Venza to be a much more practical vehicle for us. We sacrificed a lot of cargo space, and the Venza definitely lacks "cubby hole" space, but overall we like the Venza more than our Sienna. Performance wise the Venza has the power when you need it, but it averages right around 40 mpg, twice as much as our Sienna. It drives very well around town and on the road is a dream. It has lots of safety features, including some that I have turned off because I don't think they are that safe and they lead to "over confident" driving. Every day we discover something on the Venza that we didn't know we had. The only two complaints we have so far is the location of the "ON" button is a little strange, and there is a definite lack of "cubby hole" storage. Otherwise, so far, we love it.

A lot of reviewers call the Venza Toyota's version of a Lexus SUV. It's not. There's more road noise than any Lexus I've driven, and the ride is not luxury class in the least. That being said, the Venza is loaded with cool tech, has great body styling, and is priced competitively.

2021 Venza

We started out the process of buying a new suv with a lot of online research. Based on the reviews I was confident that a CX5 was in my future. Unfortunately, the test drive was not was I hoped for - the exterior was not as attractive as the online photos, the interior was just OK, and the driving performance was too tight for me. There was also some significant turbo lag when accelerating. On our way home we drove by a Toyota dealer and an elegant yet sporty car captured my eye - the Venza in coastal gray. We scheduled a test drive and I was stunned at how much fun it was to drive. The ride was soft and luxurious, the interior was finely appointed, and it had all the technology you could ask for. Plus, due to the electric motors it had more instantaneous acceleration at any speed. Sometimes a car just fits everything that is important to you and it was the Venza for me. My wife loves it too and as a real tree hugger she was so impressed with the mileage (we are averaging 40 mpg, 45 around town) that she has decided to sell her Mini Cooper because the Venza has significantly less emissions. We are now engaged in a healthy competition to see who can get the best eco driving score (which she is destined to win because I like driving in sport mode). Saving the planet has never been so much fun!

Toyota Venza Limited. I’ve had this car 2 weeks. We are the empty nester target audience. Retirees. Mid 70s. My wife had difficulty and pain, getting out of our sedan. Sciatica and arthritis. Her therapist recommended getting an SUV or van. This Venza is very easy for her to slide in and out of, with no pain at all. Contrary to many reviews, I am very happy with the screen. Just read the manual. Most people don’t. The steering wheel performs so many functions, once you set climate to your preference, you can forget about the screen. For example, my wife is 4’9. She couldn’t reach the back hatch. Using the steering wheel, I entered the dash display, went to hatch height, and lowered the opening. There are 5 height choices. The steering wheel easily controls volume, and voice control, just tell it what station or program you want. The sunroof is worth getting, as it lightens the interior and gives you a bigger feeling. I love the look of the 12.3 inch screen. I sat in a Tesla, was in awe of the 18 inch screen, and when I saw this screen, I was hooked. This car is made in Japan. As a former Acura TSX owner, another car made in Japan, I enjoyed the clearly superior quality of cars made in Japan. I didn’t want the ubiquitous RAV 4.

Purchased a loaded Limited with Star Gaze. I’ve owned other Toyota Hybrids, which all have a great place for most drivers. The Venza is returning 39-42 MPG. I’ve had Hybrid Prius’ Camrys, and Avalon. The Avalon Hybrid was so much nicer, but I like the easier in/out height of the Venza. All are good cars. The new Venza caught my attention as I was driving a 2020 Subaru Outback Touring. Somewhat mundane and irritating archaic CVT. Good car, but wanted more style and it was not too good on fuel. Driving 30K+ per year, and gas prices are going up due to new direction of politics, I decided to go back to a hybrid. The Venza is stylish, nicely appointed interior, and has enough get up and go for its size. Driving dynamics are fine for me, but not at all sporty as the style suggests. Somewhat mundane, but I’m OK with that. The Star Gaze roof is interesting, but living in Sunny SWFL, it stays covered, not open to the light. Only tried it once. The touch screen is better than the Subaru, as it reacts better to touch, but I would like some basic knobs. The interior storage is smaller than I’m accustomed to, hope I can live with it. I’m a bit disappointed in the tire/road noise, especially on not perfectly smooth pavement. It may be the Bridgestone eco tires, which I’ll eventually switch out to a better riding tire. I’ve seen other reviews comparing it to a Lexus RX? Not even close. We’ve had 2 RX’s, and my wife currently drives a ES300 Hybrid. The Venza is no comparison to the quiet, smooth ride of either Lexus. I’d drive a Lexus Hybrid, but my work does not dictate driving a Luxury brand. Overall, I’m happy with the Venza initially, but a bit disappointed in its overall package. Update after about 6 weeks: I tend to trade cars every couple years. This is the first time I’ve taken delivery on a car (and I’ve done about 36 new purchases in my life) and regretted my choice so quickly. It’s really my fault as I wanted a high MPG SUV and when seeing the Venza on line, it impressed me, so much more than in person after receiving it. Due to lack of inventory to view and spend time with, I ordered and waited for delivery. I had an earlier Venza AWD, and it was a somewhat bland, but good vehicle. I’ve owned many other Toyota Hybrids, and they are what they are. Non-exciting, efficient, highly dependable cars. Some were luxurious like our Avalons, and Lexus ES300 Hybrid. Even our past Camry hybrid seemed more composed than this Venza. And I honestly thought the Venza would be more luxurious. It’s got good looks (especially its tail end), interior is nice, efficiency at 40 MPG excellent, power acceptable. Engine drone was more prevalent than expected from Toyota Hybrids and CVT’s, just acceptable. But I found a few issues after owning for 3000 miles that just did not work for me. 1) Interior Space: This model just simply does not do well at providing interior storage or cargo capacity. Very little spaces for much of anything for driver relating to glasses, phones, etc. Not even a sunglasses holder (What was Toyota thinking in a $42K Limited). It’s smaller that the KY built Venza of the past, which is odd for Toyota. Cargo space is lacking, and that turned out to be a real issue for me. 2) Ride Quality: The Venza seems to ride harshly for a $42K SUV. Road noise was awful after coming from a Subaru Outback. Road surfaces less than smooth were annoying from this suspension, and maybe the eco focused tires lent themselves to that? Just did not come off as a smooth enough ride for trips and not too relaxing. Handling otherwise was acceptable. 3) Touch screen was challenging to work around. Needs some basic buttons or knobs to eliminate repetitive searching and adjustments. Not the best in responsiveness. Overall, its a good car, and certainly expected to be dependable. But in my short ownership, it seemed like a cheaper car (aka: maybe its sibling for other markets) with some lipstick and high heals to make it flashier for USA market. I was not that impressed. I traded for a Highlander Platinum, and find it was what I should have bought in the first place.

Living the dream with my new Venza

This vehicle is fantastic. I have had the car for 8 months. My fuel mileage over all is 47.3 MPG. Well above the posted figures. Comfortable. Most importantly my wife likes it and driving it. It is easy to like. The "BAD" points. Much smaller than my 2015 Venza. For me too little storage in back. Couple of suitcases and a cooler fills the back FULL! To little nick-nack storage. The caddie will not hold a full size Sig or 1911, spare glasses, and whatever. You don't need to buy the top model. We bought middle with a couple of add options and saved about $4k. Very happy with this car.

Lexus like design with excellent gas mileage

The Toyota Venza LE is my first hybrid automobile and I could not be more satisfied. First of all the design looks like a Lexus with Toyota pricing. I am currently averaging 42.5 mpg doing both city and highway driving. I am so impressed with this gas mileage and it seems the more I drive it, the better the gas mileage gets. I like the ability to use the Energy Monitor on the main screen and watch how the power transfers from the batteries to the gas engine, it allows me to drive more economically. If you’re looking for an upscale SUV but not wanting to pay a fortune, take a look at the Toyota Venza. It comes in 3 trim levels for you to choose from. Had To Be Towed Already!

We had 810 miles on the car and had it for about a month when it had to be towed. Dead battery and logic plus reprogrammed. Took over two hours before the tow truck arrived that was sent by Toyota Towing. We were lucky that we were at home and not on the road somewhere. Completing the towing form online by Toyota was somewhat irritating when it would not except the Vin number. However, once it was submitted they kept us updated. We travel with our smart phone at all times now. A few times the Venza does not going to gear and I had to press the brake pedal again. I did not experiences with the Honda CRV that I traded in. We took delivery of the car on Black Friday week. We have about 1000 miles on it now. It averages about 42 miles per gallon. It is nice riding and has plenty of pep for us. We are retired seniors and don’t take many long trips. Storage in this vehicle could’ve been better designed. The glove box door latch is in an unusual location. We do like having the parking sensors in cross traffic alert. It might’ve been better if we had waited another year for this new car purchase. We chose the XLE model which had most of the features we wanted.

Treat yourself to a Limited

I wanted something easy to get in and out of. My son said to check out a Venza. I wasn't a Hybrid person until I drove it. I traded in my 2016 Lexus ES350 and purchased a Limited Venza. I couldn't be happier. Toyota quality and Lexus features. I average 42MPG plus, as long as you're not lead footed. I opted for the Star gaze roof and the heads up display. Treat yourself. Awesome vehicle.

I'm a Honda guy and this is my first Toyota. Overall I'm very happy with my XLE Venza with the premium audio upgrade. To be honest I would've bought a CRV Hybrid Sonic Gray/Black but the only Honda Dealer that had one close to me tried to gouge me and I walked. Found a Venza Coastal gray/black and it took some effort but got a reasonable deal considering the current market. There are things I like and a few that could use improvement, This is the 10th new car I've purchased and I've purchased many more used. I currently have 5 cars but I bought this Venza to be my every day commuter for a 35 mile one way commute that's about 23 miles on the freeway.Point is I've driven many cars for comparison. The good: based on the trip fuel economy I've been between 34.3 mpg and 39.9 mpg. The seats are very comfortable, love the drivers seat, lumbar support is fantastic! The upgraded audio system is really good. The drive is good, it's not a sports car by any means but I find the drive smooth, fairly refined and connected. The LED headlights are good, not Subaru steering responsive LED good but no complaints. The adaptive cruise works well not overly sensative like some. The bad or at least things I think could use improvement: The heated steering wheel is my least favorite thing starting with the on/off button inconveniently located in the control panel to the lower left of the steering wheel and the fact that the heat only covers from 8 -10 on the left side and 2-4 on the right. With my typical left hand at about 10-11 o'clock the heated steering wheel is pretty much worthless! The heating and coolings controls are fair at best, controlled either on the touch screen or with the touch controls below the screen. I've found you have to take your eyes off the road to make changes. I'm still getting used to this maybe it'll get better but I know I'd prefer more traditional controls. Still not overly happy witht the lane trace assist function trying different settings but doesn't seem as smooth as it should be. I don't think this car would work for a large person. I'm average sized and it fits me great but watching a larger relative get in and out I think tall people might have some issues with comfort. That's my take overall I think this is a pretty solid car. I typically drive cars 3 to 7 years keeping the one's I like longer. We'll see how my first Toyota experience goes.

Dead starter battery

Love my new Venza EXCEPT have had to jump start TWICE after purchasing due to the starter battery not having enough power to start the car. I use(d) this car to run errands. The 12volt starter battery apparently needs you to drive more than one mile in order to recharge. Have had it into the dealership twice, they recommended a trickle charge, which I am doing. Bottom line is I am afraid to use this car for multiple, short trips. I have lost confidence in its ability to start. I think it’s ridiculous that I have the car on a trickle charger after running errands.

I have had my new Venza for 2 months just over 2000 miles and I love the way it drives love the way it looks but the information screen has shut off randomly 3 times now and it seems to have issues connecting to iPhone sometimes and I’m not getting anywhere 554 miles to a tank I filled it up when the 20 miles left light came on and it only took 11.5 gallons I thought the tank was 14.5 but other then that it’s a fun sport small suv UPDATE: Over all the car it’s self is good , what I have an issue with is that Toyota states that’s it has a 14.5 gallon tank with the gas mileage estimate of 566 miles per tank because this is complete bull crap! I have never been able to put more then 11.5 gallons of gas in my take( and I have pushed it to 3miles to empty) and never got better the 440-460 miles to a tank. So I feel I bit lied too and feel they need to fix the issue of the gas tank. From what I have found out is that the rava 4 had a similar problem. So Toyota need to fix the issue and do a recall . Do better Toyota or stop lying at least and state the real numbers

This is a great car with outside visual looking classy for SUV, Very quiet with no noise while driving. Inside looks are great with just enough room for 5. Hybrid being a bonus it is just the SUV you wanted for a long drive. It's Lexus !! Cargo space is small but We can always use the roof! if you are planning for camping etc., Overall Love it. There's no other SUV in midsize which can come close to this in features and performance.

2021 Venza in Celestial Black with JBl upgrade and console safe Pros: # Interior / Exterior design Is classy and contemporary # Softex seats are incredibly pleasant to touch...as comfortable as my bed # Good driver side road posture that offers excellent visibility out of the FRONT of the vehicle # Decent fuel efficiency for the size of the vehicle but not amazing for a hybrid overall - I get about 34 mpg # insulated ride / cabin experience. Absorbs bumps and road harshness better than my Mercedes GLC but not as insulated as the press /media suggests. It’s NOT as quiet as a Lexus Cons: #Worst navigation system I’ve ever seen. It is visually crowded , not intuitive and has a poorly designed layout . I’m embarrassed that I payed for the upgraded JBL / Navi # The EV to gas transition is clunky and uncouth- the car is quiet when it’s not moving but very load on acceleration # There is no overhead compartment to put your glasses / sunglasses. Why!!?! # there is no cargo net in the trunk or even hooks to place a cargo net if you wanted to. There is just one big open trunk space....so all of your stuff slides around the trunk making noise every time you make a turn. SUVs are inherently for Carrying stuff....this is a huge oversight. At 42K, it’s embarrassing that there is no cargo net !!! # The buttons on the steering wheel fee cheap and lack confidence ...almost as if they could pop off easily . # The push start ignition is in a really bad spot that chews up valuable storage space # The car is very little tight on the interior dimensions ...especially considering they elongated the wheelbase over the RAV4 # major blind spot looking out the sides of the vehicle # stupid console safe chews up easily accessible storage (i didn’t choose it ...it was pre-Installed). The safe takes up almost all storage in the cabin. Even the driver / passenger door compartments are shallow and not very useful . Needs more cubbies .

Toyota finally has remote start! The rear lift gate is great and so far the fuel mileage is outstanding. It is quiet and really comfortable and the seats easily adjusts to me or my wife. We purchased the limited and it is just so much better than our old rav4.We love the big screen and all the cameras.

I am very disappointing with the 2021 Venza Driving Feel, I bought my Venza in December 17, 2020 and from the very beginning I heard the noise produced by the hybrid system (dealer technician said), but after driving over 45 mpg you can also listen noise coming from outside the cabin. Dealer Service advisor and technician said is not a big deal but the hybrid system, I would like to hear some reviews from other users with similar problems.

Luxurious Ride

I've had my 2021 Venza XLE for 8 months and am extremely happy with it. I upgraded from a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid limited. The luxury features in my Venza rival its upscale Lexus. I love the ventilated seats and the smooth/quite ride. In the sport mode you have all the power you'd need, but I usually keep mine in ECO mode. I average 42+ mpg and my best is 45.2. The Apple play eliminated the need for navigation and its easy to use for streaming Spotify/Sirus XM. I find the cargo space adequate for trips and the hands free lift gate feature is very handy. The only thing that bothers me is the placement of the front cup holders which make is awkward for using the center arm rest console with drinks in the holders. I'd also like more storage options like a change drawer. The push start button is a little awkward in its placement and limits storage in the cubby. I love this Crossover!

CUV is quick and very comfortable. Lack of knobs is no problem unless one is truly clumsy or incompetent. Touchscreen response is quick and better than most tablets. Great mileage and 2 year free maintenance is icing on the cake. Stargaze panoramic roof is a nice touch. Cargo space is acceptable and the exterior profile is stylish and interior is opulent without being gaudy.
