After I now have 44,000 miles on it. I finally got new tires and breaks. I change the oil every 5,000 miles which for me is about 16 to 18 months. The truck is running great. It is simple, reliable, and easy to service. I have a bit of a rattle emanating from the passenger side front but it is a basic truck so pretty normal. Two of the lug nuts on one tire are really hard to get off so I probably need to replace the two lug bolt with new nuts next time I get it in. I frequently load it up for the dump, I drive it to work, and it just keeps going. It is unexciting but incredibly reliable. There is no technology with it so no need to worry about "telematics". This is probably the last truck I will ever own as I fully expect to get 250,000 miles at least on it and well by that time, I should be beyond my on expiration date. The truck just keeps getting less expensive and less expensive as time moves on. The cast iron 4 cylinder inline 2.7 is just hard to beat. Assuming they still have gas station in 20 years, this should still be working just fine. UPDATE: 47,680 milies on my 15 year old four cylinder access cab Tacoma and Toyota has earned its being synonymous with reliability. I am starting to think this is the last truck I will ever own as I am 63 and I can see this lasting another 30 years. The only thing that MIGHT prevent that from happening is rust. I do see some of that but it is not too bad yet. It is parked outside on my driveway so not garaged. I had two thin foot long metal rods rest through that connected the truck bed to the cab and its only purpose, it seemed, was to prevent the fender from rattling as you drove. I replaced them and the parts were inexpensive as was the labor. I see if bit of run in spots on the engine but other than that it is going strong. I had to replace the engine belt finally. I use it for hauling light stuff mostly and it serves as a second car on the rare occasion when my wife and I are driving different directions. I hope to drive it 200,000 miles and at this rate, that would be another 45 years or so. I should be quite dead by that time. Repair are easy and inexpensive. I marvel at how Toyota has become a quasi-American Company. I did not want to buy a Japanese car actually. My dad was infantry in WWII, and I inherited the inclination to stay American. However, Toyota has EARNED its reputation for reliability far and above all other automakers.

Just bought pre-runner, auto, v6, this month. Love it! Everything inside out is all nice! One problem though, the transmission is a little sluggish, when slow down to 40, 30 mph. Overall, this is a nice truck!

I purchased my new Tacoma with high hopes that it would match up to my old 1992 SR5 Toyota truck. I am very disappointed to say that it does not. The steering wheel does not angle high enough to get out of the way of my knee when I shift. Come-on Toyota. The center console storage compartment should lift back, not to the side. I already had to replace my passenger side seat belt because it was torn. The gas mileage is horrible for a manual,(15-16). The engine is loud above 2300 rpm. The engine does not throttle down fast enough when you shift so you get this horrible whining each time you shift gears. I had much more storage in the cab with my 1992 Toyota. 250K with this truck. Not a chance

Good Truck, No Issues

After the purchase I installed a Flowmaster Muffler, this helped to improve my feelings towards a 4 cylinder 4x4. Currently, I have over 4,000 miles logged and no complaints thus far. It is a far better truck than the competition, and it was made in California! I did not think I would buy a Toyota, with the economic issues but it has been well worth it. I recommend the SR5 package, it has a lot for the money, although the stock wheels and tires are horrible. Although most stock tires usually are not the best, I expected better. Overall, this truck is worth the money, no matter what the media says.

Problems: - Uncomfortable Seats - Uneven Pedals (clutch pedal is higher than the others) , foot is trapped between top of clutch pedal and underside of dash when releasing clutch (wearing workboots, 6 Ft. tall driver) - Stereo system is weak. Use of Aux. input requires turning volume up full. - Gas mileage is poor (25 MPG highway). - Stock rims rusting after 6 months. - 4 wheel drive switch not illuminated. - Requires multiple turn overs to start.
