Love my new Prius Prime

Most of my driving is within the 30 mile electric charge range. I bought my 2017 Prime in April and have only put gas in it twice, each time 8 gallons. The car is sporty and handles like a dream. All of my friends are jealous and want one now. I get compliments from strangers when I'm out and about! The blue magnetism color is a knockout. This car is sexy! Only drawback: it only seats 4 passengers, but that hasn't really been an issue for me yet. Also, not much cargo space, but I had a trailer hitch put on so I can carry my bike, and I can use it to add a cargo rack if necessary.

The ultimate hybrid??

This is the bomb, and since this would be the third prius in our lifetime, it's appropriate as having exp three other gens or models to explain the differences , for instance prius c, we had this model virtually a month after it showed up at dealer showrooms. City it is spectacular bar none, but we ended up moving back to the midwest, and in the interim drive many freeway miles, horrible highway ride, noisy to the point of wanting to jump out and abandon shop! Next was the 3rd Gen, boxey and bulkey, super fuel economy but horrible line of sight, then back to what we'd had long time back, the virtuous 2nd gen, wow just a beast, goes & goes. Now here I've just test driven the pentulimate expression and design of what a super cargo friendly sedan style ride can be plus "wow" factor , 60+mpg all day long! Interior feels a bit sparse, but sensible and oh so quiet, highways beware, no more noise mauling once I decide to break the bank again, buy this slightly odd looking but yet gorgeous performer?!! Oh What Feeling!!

Why I Just Bought a Prius Prime Over The Volt

If you do a deep dive into the research on the Volt and the Prius Prime, you'll discover some key factors that make the Prius a much better choice. The Prius Prime has a battery that is guaranteed for the life of the car, whereas with the Volt battery is only guaranteed for eight years or hundred thousand miles, whichever comes first. That is a game changer if you plan to keep the car longer than eight years. Second, the Volt has a very low roof line. Anybody over 5 feet 10 inches will likely bang their head getting in and out of the car. The headroom in the back seats of the Volt is ridiculous. Also, the so-called middle seat in the Volt is so uncomfortable that it would only be OK for a small child traveling a short distance. It doesn't work for an adult. The safety features on the Prius Prime (Advance model) exceed what is available on the Volt. The price of the Prius is thousands of dollars cheaper than the Volt. Finally, the Prius gets much better gas mileage and driving distance than the Volt. Another thing to consider is how close is the nearest Chevrolet service center to your home if you buy a Volt? Toyota dealerships are everywhere, whereas Chevrolet dealerships are less numerous. That's an issue when you need to bring your car in for routine maintenance or service.

Stylish, efficient, and surprisingly zippy!

I've had my Prius Prime for about 4 months now and I think I can safely say that it's my favorite car I've ever owned. The 25 mi EV range works very nicely for me, as my work commute is only a few miles and I can easily get there and back, with a couple of errands thrown in, and never burn any gas. Only the occasional longer trip necessitates me ever filling up at all -- I'm average about 95 mpg since purchase and am visiting a gas station about once a month. But the thing that's been the most pleasant surprise is how fun it is to drive! I've become addicted to Power Mode, which, when one is all charged up and running EV, provides a highly satisfying quiet zoominess. Absolutely night and day compared to the 2nd Gen Prius it replaced. It's also quieter, more comfortable, and a good deal more stylish than my old Prius. None of the reviews I read prior to my purchase adequately conveyed how much better the performance is in EV mode relative to regular hybrid mode. Even if it wasn't saving me money, I'd probably religiously charge it up every night just because it makes it so much more gratifying to drive (I always feel a little crestfallen on the occasions when it settles into hybrid after I've used up my EV charge). It was also a screaming bargain, in that, with the combination of $6K in tax credits, a $3125 manufacturer rebate and a good deal from the dealer, it cost me under $20K. The cons are all pretty minor, given my usage of the vehicle: only 2 rear seats (okay for us as empty-nesters); modest cargo room (we have larger car for big loads); and the somewhat dorky "high-tech" panel display with a bunch of mostly useless tech (seriously, you expect me to painstakingly hand-enter my nav destination while stationary, when I can just talk to my phone as I drive instead?). On balance, a wonderful car for my lifestyle -- I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Unavoidable sun in driver's eyes

If I had been alert enough, when test-driving the prius, to drive when the sun was in the southern sky, I'd have chosen a different car. The sun visor will not cover the driver side window. It’s useless because it is too short to cover driver's face/eyes! No way to pull it out (as in our Honda and Toyota Tundra) to cover my eyes and no extendable attachment to lengthen the visor. Thoughtless of car makers because this has already been dangerous to me, blinding me when sun is in my eyes from the left, leaving me no way to glance to the left side and see if dangers exist, also hard on my eyes. Have already contacted Toyota "store" to see if sun visor attachments, to correct this dangerous oversight, exist but nothing has been created to solve this problem. I'm keeping a clothes pin with cardboard in my Prius to clip on and solve the problem in a ridiculous but workable way. Every time I drive on a sunny day I think what a careless and uncaring oversight this sun visor is.
