Toyota reliability
This appraisal is for a become-15 year old daily driver hatchback Echo in rust belt eastern Ontario, Canada that currently has 260,000 km on it. Most reliable car I've owned in the past 50 years. I've always driven fuel efficient cars (ie econoboxes with manual transmissions) but this is the very first one I've ever had that achieves 5 litre/100 km day all day long and on one occasion last year actually crossed over the miracle (certainly for me) 60 miles per Imperial gallon (4.5 l/100 km) during a leisurely 400 km road trip through New York State. That still mostly-rust-free old car (I'm a believer in annual oil sprays) has virtually no resale value anymore but the engine uses no oil between changes and parts such as the clutch, alternator, starter, power steering pump, radiator, water pump are still original. I will definitely be shopping for another Toyota when the old girl gives up the ghost or somebody crashes into it. Compared to low-slung cars Echos are tall which makes them easy to get in an out of.

Anastasia's Review
I love my Echo! I recommend it to anyone who asks. I get great gas mileage and it is very comfortable, even for long drives. Lots of room, big trunk.
MY ECHO
I presently have 79,373 miles on my echo. It has 4 doors, manual transmission, and I average just over 40 mpg if I drive 60mph or less. I drive 85 miles round trip per day 4-5 days per week for work, (both highway and city). I change my own oil and filter every 3000 miles, and have only had it in the shop once at the dealer for it's 60,000 mile check up. I love this car! Not a bit of trouble, very dependable. They don't make Echos anymore, but Toyota's replacement is the Yaris, (same engine, different body style). If I needed another reliable and economic car I would buy another Echo, if I could find one, or a new Yaris. Toyota really has a winner here!!
Echo 4 door 5 speed
I purchased this car for its gas mileage only. I thought it was funny looking but it would serve my needs. Then I drove it. What a blast. It shifts well, handles well (in spite of other reviews that said it had severe body roll), the room is amazing for such a small car. I'm, 6'1" with a long torso and I have head room to spare. The seats could use some leg and back bolstering though. Now, I've come to appreciate how it looks, especially as it sits in a gas station.
This car has been to hell and back!
This is the greatest car ever! My wife bought this car before we met. I have an eclipse (2000) and love sports cars and racing. This car has impressive performance (for the type of car that it is), the greatest stock stereo I have ever heard, and the strongest and most reliable motor (similar to the Hondas that have been long haulers). We have driven across country (Georgia to California)! I have added a k&n air filter, and use premium fuel, and synthetic oil change (starting at 35000 miles.) At over 73000 miles, the only problem we have had is some minor electrical recently and just did my first battery change. The best buy ever!
