Lacking some in “get up and go,” but I love everything else! Great on gas, handy electronic features, spacious, love the size and helpfulness of the touch screen.

Corolla SE

I purchased the Corolla SE with a 6 speed manual. I chose the manual because the automatic is a CVT trans and I didn't like the way it drove. The manual is an almost different car. I've owned it a week and love it. I would give the CVT trans version a 2 to 3 star rating. The only defect noted is the passenger side pull handle in the roof pillar.

First manual transmission review

I have the manual transmission. A lot of others have reported road noise. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the manual transmission. At least not with mine. Getting great gas mileage. After 3 months 32.6 mpg combined. This car has one of the best shifting transmissions I've ever driven.

Best car I’ve EVER owned!

I am 61 years I have been driving for 45 years and have owned over 20 cars in that time. I have just taken delivery of a Corolla SE upgrade package and it is terrific. Acceleration is brisk, comfort is excellent and I know that the reliability will be off the chart . Even the fuel economy exceeds manufacturer’s claim! The Safety Sense is excellent and easily understood. Extremely happy with my choice. I would recommend this car to friends and family.

Fix the Entune and I'm a Believer!

We bought the Corolla SE with the 6-speed. The clutch is buttery, the gearbox precise. I'm 6'2" and I can get comfortable, as can my wife, who is 5'3". The 2.0 engine has enough for a kick of fun. We put in the TRD airbox, airtube, and filter. Really helps throttle response. Buy the components separately (not in the kit form) and you'll save a couple hundred. The seats are comfortable, but the ride is a bit harsh (probably due to the 40series 18" wheels). The handling is flat and direct. Handling is on par with a Focus ST, horsepower is not. This puts out 169hp, which is nice for this car, but... The Entune audio system is clunky and obnoxious. We're looking at a Camry in a year or two, but if Toyota hasn't fixed Entune by then, we won't consider it. It is THAT bad. Backup camera is clear, but lacks guides for turning. You get a straight box back that doesn't vary with turning the wheel. The laser cruise is easy to use and it is easy to adjust following distance from 3seconds (default) to 1second. The SE with MT does NOT have the different driving modes like the XSV. The steering is a touch light, so I would have liked to have a "sport mode" or something to tighten it up a bit. The iMT rev matches as you downshift (think "electronic double clutch"), but you have to engage it and anytime you stop, you have to push the button again or it turns off. We are driving this mixed city, highway, and hilly/curvy. We flog it, and are averaging over 33mpg. If this is like my last Toyota, that digital reading is optimistic, but either way, for the fun this car provides, I'll take it. Ours had been on the lot for close to a year (no one wants a MT anymore) and the dealer was willing to deal. We paid over $4,000 less than MSRP. That included dealer and Toyota incentives and no financing. Your mileage may vary.
