Fully redesigned this year, the Navigator adds impressive new technology such as its dash-spanning panoramic Lincoln Digital Experience instrumentation and infotainment system. Other highlights include a new Rejuvenate relaxation feature, a helpful split-tailgate design and significantly updated BlueCruise, which is a hands-free driver assist feature to help make driving more relaxing. Lincoln makes every effort to ensure owning one of its SUVs is a stress-free experience. Though it doesn't always translate into reality, the intent is to soothe Lincoln owners with silence, smoothness and sophistication. The new Navigator's Rejuvenate feature takes the next step toward securing your serenity. Different programs are available that use the front seat heating and massage functions, in-cabin fragrance system, graphics flowing across the panoramic display, ambient lighting, and high-end audio system to create what Lincoln calls a "spa on wheels" for five or 10 minutes at a time.

Competitors to consider

The new 2025 Navigator represents a welcome upgrade over the previous version of Lincoln's linebacker of an SUV. It is competitive with its primary rivals, the Cadillac Escalade and Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and it represents a compelling alternative to the Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX. Can Lincoln also chip away at BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS customers? Potentially, though the smaller and more athletic German alternatives appeal to luxury SUV buyers who don't need the Lincoln's substantial interior space and towing capacity.

Driving experience

How does the Lincoln Navigator drive? The best part of driving the Navigator is enjoying its turbocharged V6 engine. At the Edmunds test track, our test Navigator sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. It's got serious power on tap, and getting on the highway or passing is a breeze.

But there are other aspects to the Navigator that we're not as fond of. The Navigator doesn't ride as smoothly over bumps and rough pavement as rival luxury SUVs. Lincoln also came up with an odd oval-shaped design for the steering wheel. Our drivers complained about having to turn the steering wheel a lot in parking lots and called it not intuitive to use. One team member went as far as to describe the wheel design as "an absolute deal-breaker."

It's pretty easy to see out of the Navigator to the front and back, but there are very large blind spots on both sides. Thankfully, there is a blind-spot warning system to aid in lane changes and a surround-view camera system to help with parking. Driver aids are a strong point in the Navigator. The BlueCruise driving system, which allows for hands-free driving on the highway, can make long drives more relaxing.

Comfort

How comfortable is the Lincoln Navigator? Our test Navigator Black Label had the 30-way adjustable front seats. Having so many adjustments can make the initial setup a chore, but once it's all configured, the front thrones are very comfortable and supportive. The second-row seats are also comfortable but less spacious than you'd think because they sit up pretty high, which limits headroom. Stepping into the cabin would be hard if not for the power running boards to help you out. It's quite roomy inside, which also makes it easy to install car seats in both the second and third rows.

The cabin heats and cools quickly, and the ventilated seats are a standout feature. But the control scheme is a mess. You have to adjust the front vents through the screen, and that is always annoying. The fans are a bit loud too. The big 24-inch wheels on our test vehicle generated a noticeable amount of road noise. Another issue: the overly complicated steering wheel controls. There are no labels on any of the buttons, and you have to lay a finger on them gently to get a control map to pop up in the instrument cluster.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? The Navigator's cabin looks high-tech thanks to the 48-inch panoramic display and 11.1-inch touchscreen. The tech interface generally works well, though it can be a bit hard to find touchscreen-based settings or functions that you're looking for. Wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration is standard.

Our test Navigator Black Label was loaded with charging ports. It had two USB-C ports in every row, a household-style power outlet, and a wireless charging pad for the front passengers and the second-row passengers.

Storage & cargo

How’s storage and cargo? The Navigator makes clever use of its split tailgate, which means that you can open the top portion without having stuff fall out if you're on an incline. There's also a small cargo insert that can serve as a table, a storage shelf, or a bench seat if you want to hang out. There's 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row and 60.8 cubic feet with it folded down, slightly trailing the Cadillac Escalade. But maximum towing capacity (8,700 pounds) is excellent, beating the Caddy by 1,500 pounds.

Small-item storage is an issue. The front of the Navigator is lacking in cubbies or bins to put anything larger than a phone (let alone a purse). And the medium-size door pockets don't really help things either.

Is the Lincoln Navigator a good value? The Navigator starts at nearly six figures, and if you start adding options, the price rises quickly. At least you are getting something that feels like a bona fide luxury SUV in the process, with premium materials and enough chrome that it could be shared with two or three other SUVs and still have some left over. The big panoramic screen and those highly adjustable seats also give the Navigator a few unique features over competitors.

Lincoln offers four-year/50,000-mile basic and six-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranties, and Black Label models add four years/50,000 miles of free maintenance.

How’s the fuel economy? A big SUV with a big number on the scale means that your expected fuel economy will be low. The Navigator gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in city/highway combined driving. In our time with it, our test vehicle averaged 17 mpg, so the EPA's estimate seems achievable.

The Navigator's styling might skew too ostentatious for some, but it does match the big SUV's sheer size and power. If you want something more subtle, then this isn't the vehicle for you because American luxury is loud and proud in every respect.

Excellent Luxury SUV!

2025 Lincoln Navigator Reserve 4dr SUV 4WD (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 10A)

We traded in our 2022 Ford Expedition for a brand new 2025 Navigator Reserve. While there are many similarities in the drivetrain and capacity, there are many upgrades that set it apart from not only the Expedition but also other similar large SUV’s. This version of the Navigator has a much improved ride over the previous model years but still not as good as the Escalade or the Grand … Wagoneer. In my opinion however, that is the only area where the Navigator does not surpass the competition. The interior is modern and plush. You immediately know you are in a luxury vehicle. The massive dashboard is functional and impressive! Admittedly, the tech is at first confusing but once you become familiar with it, it is actually quite easy to navigate. Thee steering wheel controls are not labeled but once you get accustomed to their functions, it is an excellent system! A lot of people complain about the shape of the steering wheel. Personally, I love it! It is unique and makes handling incredibly easy! I’m not sure what all the fuss is about but I consider it an asset. As for handling, this vehicle is in the neighborhood of 6,000 lbs. Any critic of the handling of this vehicle seems to be oblivious to that standard law of physics. Whether you are driving a Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade or Jeep Grand Wagoneer, you will never get the handling performance of a Corvette. For a vehicle of this size, the handling is excellent! There is no body roll or swaying in high speed curves. Lincoln does a great job in these areas. The interior is plush with most surfaces covered in soft leather or wood. The driving experience is amazing and this vehicle will impress anyone who rides in it. It has great power and performance and in the 5,000 miles I’ve driven it at this point, it gets about 20 mpg on the highway and considerably less in town. I only have two other complaints overall. First, it would be nice for a vehicle of this caliber to have a cooling armrest box. It would be a nice addition! Second, the Bluecruise works extremely well! However, when it is sunny and there is some glare in the cabin, the safety interlock doesn’t always see your eyes watching the road and the system disengages. I will have the dealer look at this during my first service visit. Lincoln offers vehicle pick up and a loaner to use while service is being done. This is an included benefit when buying this vehicle. Overall, we purchased this vehicle with 7 miles on it for the price of $93,000 plus tax and tags. I thought it was high at first but we are incredibly happy with this purchase. A great vehicle!

Exceptional Luxury SUV

2025 Lincoln Navigator Reserve 4dr SUV 4WD (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 10A)

We traded in our 2022 Ford Expedition to upgrade to the 2025 Lincoln Navigator. It was an excellent choice! We considered the Escalade, Grand Wagoneer and the GX 550. We decided on the Lincoln as we have had great experiences with the (Ford) brand. In virtually every category but one, the Lincoln is superior. For a vehicle that weighs around 6,000 lbs, it handles like a much smaller … vehicle. While no vehicle this size should ever be expected to handle like a Corvette, the Lincoln surprises in that category. The steering is responsive and there is no body roll usually associated with such a large vehicle. The only area where the Navigator is not above the competition is the ride quality. Cadillac and The Grand Wagoneer have a superior ride but the Navigator handles a little better in my opinion. Also, there is a lot of attention being paid to the shape of the Navigator’s steering wheel. While it is unique, I personally find it a plus. It allows the driver to feel more connected to the vehicle and makes the SUV feel a little less intimidating. Next is the interior. The dashboard is impressive and the interface is among the best in any vehicle I’ve driven. The interior feels more refined than the Escalade or Grand Wagoneer. It is clearly a luxury model and there is no doubt for the driver or the passengers. There is ample room for 7 adults to ride comfortably with plenty of head and leg room and getting in and out is a breeze! While the ride is not as refined as the competition, it is however much improved over the 2024 model. This is clear when driving down the road and rough road conditions are more subdued than in the past. Driving the Navigator is not only fun but extremely comfortable. The Bluecruise works flawlessly! While it is a little strange at first, once you get used to it, long trips become much easier and less stressful! Performance is not usually a topic synonymous with a large SUV but the Navigator has plenty of power and merging onto any freeway is a breeze! Overall the Navigator is a relatively good value compared to other SUV’s in this class. While it is expensive, you get a great luxury vehicle for the price. You also get a large vehicle that get surprisingly good gas mileage at about 20 mpg on the highway. Anyone interested in a vehicle such as this, should take a look at the Navigator. A premium luxury SUV.
