Great commuter car

I drive about 75 miles round trip for work daily and bought the Corolla to be my commuter car. So far so good. The seats are comfortable, the handling is good, radio works well and it simply drives as it should. I do not have any complaints. It is not the fastest car off the line but if you drive normal without a lead foot then you will be just fine. I am averaging 38mpg with mixed driving, I love the gas mileage. The safety features are great too, I love the automatic high beams and the lane departure works well. I expect strong reliability with the Corolla and am very happy with my purchase.

More than I bargained for in a GREAT way

I traded in a 2017 Nissan Sentra SV. I test drove a few cars before I picked this one. I was using the Consumer Reports car buying guide and tested their top 6 cars. This car really surprised me. I grew up with Cadillacs which had automatic dimmers for the high beams in the 60s. Standard equipment. My wife accuses me of drifting out of my lane frequently. Lane warning Standard equipment. And an option that I thought Cruise Controls should have for years. When the cruise is set and you go down a hill it works to maintain you set speed so you are not talking to officer friendly at the bottom. And did I mention that the cruise has a vehicle detection system that slows you down or stops you if you start getting to close to the other vehicle. ALL of the preceding were STANDARD EQUIPMENT. Extra on other models. The car has the usual Corolla ride (Okay), handling (okay), Comfort (adequate), Noise (okay). BONUS because of the standard safety features the price of my insurance went DOWN $20 verses the 2017 Nissan.

It's a Corolla, not a luxury car

Rover, 04/12/2018
2018 Toyota Corolla LE 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT)

I got lucky and got mine for 15 grand. Comparing to other sedans that I have at this size it compares fine. My gas mileage is 36 mpg, mixed driving and it's fine for me for acceleration as I don't drive so sporty with it. Cons for me compared to other cars in this class is that I noticed it catches leaves and tree debris in places that you have to remove moreso than with other cars. Trunk lid catches leaves and I have to open it to clean them out. Front between the windshield and hood catches a lot of leaves. Seams at the doors and trim catches stuff too. My other make of car doesn't or is easier to clean, hose off. The radio controls with the steering wheel buttons don't match the vertical list of stations on the display as the stations are left and right to change and volume is up and down. I get mixed up when trying to choose the stations. The cruise control waits until it gets a few miles per hour higher to keep up and my other car is within a mile per hour. The CVT has smart intelligence and shifts just like a geared transmission when needing to speed up or down quickly and I thought it would not be so. But leaving a stop light it is shift free and I like that. Michelins came on mine and the road noise and ride is good and it handles bumps well. The rear camera won't beep when coming close to hitting something but maybe I have not set it yet in the controls adjustments. I am 6 ft. tall and used to pickup trucks and Sonatas and they are larger so I expected the entry, exit to be a bit tight but not uncomfortable as I wanted a smaller car for short spurts and gas mileage. The paint is blizzard pearl with a luxury looking sheen and I like that. Factory listed it as a special color. Overall I am pleased with it and don't mind the small cons. It's a Corolla and my price can't be beat compared to another car compared to it.

you will never be found on side of road with car trouble. I love my cars I never had any problems. I have a 2006 scion xb and I have a 2018 corolla red I call her lip stick I love her I love Toyota all you have to do is keep up with the oil change. other than that it will run and you will keep on going places. cars are made to be driven and Toyota delivers just keep new tires. I don't need the inside to be stunning so that I don't care about I love the fact it has safe senors on it. the speed it fast enough for like to get places alive so speed aint a problem. so if you are like me and just want to go place with no problems get a TOYOTA

Little Power But Great Fuel Economy

Ray, 09/06/2018
2018 Toyota Corolla LE Eco w/Premium Package 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT)
25 of 32 people found this review helpful

If you want a pretty basic car- nothing flashy about this vehicle- but one with great fuel economy this is your car. Pros- Easy to drive, comfortable seats for two front passengers, clear visibility from front windshield, nicely tinted windows, Excellent fuel economy (40 MPG both highway and inner city). Cons- worthless cruise control (only works on completely flat roads), above average road noise, extremely poor quick acceleration, below average stereo, inferior tires. So it would sound like this car is not that great- right? Not if you are comparing it to the other cars in this class and price range. They are all made of cheap materials and they all have road noise and many have poor braking. What makes the Corolla a head above most of these cars (excluding the Civic) is the reliability of the engine long term, the low cost of the vehicle due to fuel economy and the future resale value. Not a sporty car but one you won't be embarrassed driving.

Basically The Same Tinny Corolla of the 90's

Was looking for a compact commuter that got good mileage, could fit people and dogs, and that would last a long time. I test drove a few cars, but Toyota's Safety Sense was what made me purchase the vehicle - it is great to see these safety features on a base model compact car and I applaud Toyota for doing so. I live in Wisconsin and bought the car in July. No issues until the colder weather came in. Whenever the temperature is below 40 degrees there are noises everywhere! First there was a rattle in the headliner right above the driver side. I popped the dome light off and stuck some Styrofoam in there and that seemed to cancel that out. Second there's rattles coming from both trim pieces on the dash for the side mirror defrosters. Upon inspection I found that the piece doesn't meet snugly with the vent, so I glued some foam to the base of the trim piece and that seemed to fix that problem. Finally the dash rattles like no other especially in colder weather. It mostly disappears when the car is running at temperature. Again sticking some foam along the base and A pillars seems to help mostly. Overall it's a good car with lots of potential, but with less than 11,000 miles and rattles all over, I am nervous about the long term reliability for the vehicle

on the plus side it has safety features such as automatic braking - however I am very sorry that I traded in my 2015 corolla which was much roomier and the biggest things is that the 2018 corolla seats are very very uncomfortable. They are very hard and for long trip I had to stop at every rest area just to give my back and butt a rest. My 2015 corolla have very comfortable seats. They made the 2018 corolla smaller and very uncomfortable compared to the 2015. I am going to sell it as soon as I return from my tri[

SAVE THE STICK!

I had the LE model. I drive in the city the cvt is too slow to keep up with aggressive drivers. My dealership was able to let me trade in the car at no cost to me so I could have the SE with the 6-speed standard transmission. The six speed standard transmission is actually a little faster then the CVT. The SE 6mt came standard with the keyless entry which does not come on the automatic version and also come standard with a moonroof and the sport leatherette. These three features are very hard to find with a standard transmission. The standard transmission helps out a lot to drop two gears and get past people in traffic. It is a very soft clutch and springs back pretty quick also to my favor. I am also 5 feet tall and have a hard time driving standards because I can't reach the clutch this car is perfect.

Fabric seats

Linda, 06/14/2018

The fabric seats/console between the seats water stain. Toyota will not acknowledge it as a manufacturers defect which would be covered under warranty. Their solution is bring it in and get it detailed which will not solve the problem. My car is 6 months old and the interior seats/console look awful. Nothing spilled on the seats except water/condensation from a water bottle. This is outrageous. Clothing does not water stain except for delicate silk that requires dry cleaning. how could Toyota believe that car seats that water stain are acceptable. I am truly disappointed in their response to date.

I had no issues with the sales representative. He was very helpful, kind, and informative. It was just that the vehicle itself did not sell me - especially the slow acceleration response. The engine was also a bit noisy. Beautiful car as far as looks and style. Great interior and technology. Just did not like the lack of "get up and go".

Toyota now a days are not built to last

Unhappy Toyota customer, 05/24/2020

I bought a 2018 Toyota Corolla in Nov 2019 with mileage around 34000 miles from Hertz sales. I assumed Toyota is built to last. But In May 2020, the AC compressor failed when the car mileage was around 38900 miles. Now I was without bumper to bumper coverage and it cost me another $1300 approx to fix the compressor. Could not believe a Toyota Corolla to have such a bad quality build. The one year extended warranty provided by Hertz Sales was useless for this car as the powertrain warranty is already covered by Toyota Powertrain warranty. So be aware!

Sunny little car!!

2 of 3 people found this review helpful

Lacking in comfort and upgraded options, being just an LE model, but I love driving it! I've had many sports cars in "younger years", I'll be turning 53 in a few months, and this Corolla reminds me of the 85 Pontiac Fiero I had in 1987. My Corolla is not the fastest due to having a basic engine unfortunately being a used 1 owner car. The Sport Mode is great for needing quicker acceleration and with having the shifting option seems to help me feel more relaxed running down Interstate at/over limits in bumper to bumper rush hour. Would of really been great having a turbo on the engine like the 2015 Escape SE w/Ecoboost I traded in to buy my Corolla. Interior on my car is very disappointing, to be truthful, only due to the LE package and because I traded an Escape w/many options down to the Corolla. But, due the situation(s), I needed a vehicle getting better gas mileage to drive my wife to specialized surgeons and oncologists for a little under a year.(Lost the love of my life over 25 years in July of 2020.) I do feel that I can definitely put in better Interior parts to make it much better though. I have to be honest, I love the body designs, of both the Corolla and Camry! Toyota done great on the front and rear ends of them. It's fun to see people gawking at it while I'm running around doing errands, my Corolla has dark tinted windows, no chrome/murdered out, black rims and soon to be tinted head/taillights w/LED bulbs throughout all of it besides just the headlights. This year, I haven't been as picky as I usually am towards keeping my car 100% show quality due to many factors, just don't have the energy to do the detailing and since I'm alone now, no longer feel like going out to cruise. Finally, there's 1 more major issue to be aware of that's causing me some stressful problems. For the many of people that's had lower back surgeries, I'm fused from L1-S1, or even back issues...when I bought my Corolla, I was having a great "back" day and was able to get in/out of it w/o any issues...now, almost 2 and a half years later, I'm having numerous days of struggling to get in/out of it due to how low it sits...might be due to heighth and lack of strength now... Yet, for an economy car that's easier on your pocket and still has a great look to it, you won't go wrong with buying 1! Living on a limited income since 2014 has really been a major change in my life and having to determine if it's something that I want or do I need it...I went from at the most, 25 city/32 highway with the Escape SE and upto 34 city/41 highway with my Corolla. With gasoline prices being at $3.39/gallon where I live (even higher in other locations), getting my Corolla was definitely a great choice. I'm willing to do the upgrades myself with the money I'm saving towards gasoline and insurance!

I’ve had this 2 months so far. My Tacoma has frame replaced and they gave me this. It’s buzzy like a go kart, the car on the highway is quite terrifying. It can’t handle its self at high speeds and drifts around the road like its on water. Also the acceleration is a dog. It can’t move fast enough to pass anyone. Then there is the defrost that doesn’t work much...and this car has 8k miles. It leaves a haze on window and makes it more scary in winter than is in this car. I’m sure it’s reliable but I hate it

I purchased my Corolla at Toyota Universe Little Falls NJ. My Sales Agent was Jo Polanco! Great Sales Agent. Helped me through ever step. He showed me every car I was interested in, provided details and features of the car, was helpful and friendly throughout the whole time I spent at the dealership. Jo Polanco was there from start to finish. He was very determined to make sure that I left satisfied and received the vehicle I wanted with a contract that is unbeatable ! I am 100% coming back to Jo Polanco at Toyota Universe Little Falls NJ whenever I want to upgrade to a newer Toyota vehicle!

Don't get me wrong owning this car for 4 years it saved me on gas fills up with 23 dollars. Very comfortable driving and economic of course. But my big concern was that the whole screen in the car turns pitch black all of a sudden while I was driving and at the time I had 102,000m on my car. YOUR DEALERSHIP WILL CHARGE YOU SOO MUCH TO HAVE YOUR NAV SYSTEM REPLACED! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A AFFORDABLE CAR WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE!!! Toyota charging me 3,000 to replace the whole system when I did it myself for $400. Sold my car and bought a better quality car. JS.

We rented this car for a week and can't wait to take it back. The cruise control only works on flat pavement. How often are all the roads you drive on flat? The sun visors don't extend to the length need to help the passengers or drivers if the sun is coming in from a side window. I guess this company expects everyone to drive into the sun at all times on flat roads. I would never buy a Toyota.

Decent features, great safety, a few blemishes

Zac, 01/17/2022

I've had my corolla for about 2 years now, put about 40,000 miles on it. Had the SE model of the vehicle. The SE version of the car has a different front bumper, because of that it had premature cracking in the upper corners, seems to be an issue across the board. The adaptive cruise control/cruise control does not do so well with down hills. The car often accelerates down hill before applying the brakes and then maintains the proper speed, a very annoying and could get you in trouble with speeding feature. The SE model has a much more premium feel the the lower models. It's much easier to maintain because of that. I totaled mine at 65,000 miles, hit a concrete guard rail head on at 60 mph and rolled the vehicle. I walked away with only a few scrapes and bruises. The safety of this vehicle is tried and true. Crash was at no fault of the vehicle. Looking at buying another one.

This is my 4th Corolla. I previously had a 2002, 2009 and 2014. My 2018 Corolla is a manual SE. I bought with 32,000kms on it. 2 months later at 40,000kms I am looking to trade it in for something else. This car is by far the most gutless Corolla I have ever driven. It struggles to pass other vehicles, has a hard time going up hills and accelerates slowly. I take a lot of long road trips, this car is awful for them. Very uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time and is a tight space if you have a passenger. The cruise control is useless, picks up speed and doesn't let off the accelerator going down hill. Going up hill, it won't hold speed even though I gear down. Auto high beams shut off randomly so I have to switch lights from Auto to On just to have working high beams. Very loud on the highway. By far the loudest Corolla I've had, it gives me a headache. Burns oil when going up hills at highway speeds. Blue tooth sometimes disconnects and I have to shut the car off and back on again to get it working again. The handling on the highway is very bad. If you touch the brakes going over 115kms/h, it feels like you're going to lose control. Even just driving highway speeds, the car feels like youre driving on wet roads. I was hoping that the acceleration issues everyone else was talking about was just because CVT transmissions are garbage, but mine is a manual so turns out, new Corollas in general are just garbage.

Issues Galore, Toyota is NOT the brand they were

I purchased this vehicle Oct 2020 when it had ~18k miles on it. I have since clocked the odometer at 31k and stayed up on my service. Bluetooth always had intermittent cutout/disconnect/sync issues (I believe this was the reason for early lease trade in on it)...then it would work for a month, etc. It outright failed a week ago and no longer works, 2 months outside of warranty...GO FIGURE. They won't help me out. 2018 car that cant even play music or take phone calls. Also has an extremely rough idle after being driven for about an hour, feels like its going to stall. Service dept couldn't replicate the problem but told me to bring it in if it does it again. Well, It does it everyday. Wont fix anything until it breaks at which point Toyota will pick and choose which parts their supposed 'certified pre owned warranty' actually covers....im not holding my breath. Stuck with a lemon!

I am anxious to see how this car performs in the SNOW!!! I have a back alley garage that the CITY NEVER PLOWS. Last week I traveled to Emlenton where I own two acres up from a quarter mile dirt road. The road was wet, rutted and difficult to traverse with all the leaves. I reached the top and the car temporarily stalled in a rutted puddle.
