Lexus made a huge splash in 1990 with its debut as a luxury carmaker and its flagship LS sedan. It rewrote the book on what a Japanese manufacturer could deliver and paved the way for a new breed of non-German luxury sedans. The 2026 Lexus LS marks the end of the road for this largest and most refined sedan in Lexus' lineup, while the automaker's midsize IS sedan remains and a redesigned compact ES sedan is on the way.

The 2026 Lexus LS is Japan's last surviving large luxury sedan, leaving its original inspiration — traditional German rivals — if you're looking for a premium sedan. You really can't go wrong with the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class or the Audi A8. The Genesis G90 is also a worthy alternative, with a distinct style all its own. The Porsche Panamera may be an intriguing choice for performance-minded drivers, and there are also some all-electric variants in the form of the BMW i7 and Mercedes EQS sedan.

For its farewell, the 2026 Lexus LS will only be available in a new Heritage Edition. You can think of it as a nearly fully loaded version of what was available last year, though the previous LS 500h hybrid version is already gone for 2026. On the inside, it's bathed in premium quilted leather, rich wood accents, a synthetic suede headliner, front seats that are ventilated and have massage functions, and an audiophile-quality 23-speaker Mark Levinson audio system. The main drawbacks are that it's only available with black paint and a red interior, and it's limited to 250 examples.
