Used 1998 Toyota Corolla Sedan Consumer Reviews
trusty old friend
I have driven over 280,000 miles in mostly urban traffic with some expressway also. This car is not a good long distance hauler due to its 3 speed tranny. I should have spent extra and gotten the 4 speed. Thank god they don't make those anymore. It's an excellent around town car even with all the miles I still get about 28mpg which is what the EPA says I should get. Mechanically very reliable, although lately I replaced the mounts with aftermarket units and I ruined the car. It now shakes and vibrates to the point of being intolerable to all but the shortest trips.
RELIABLE!
I bought this as a previous leased vehicle with 39,900 miles. I now have 121,000 and mechanically have only replaced the battery & put pads on the brakes. The interior integrity has not been the best, but I can rely on it to run & get me where I want to go. Radio is on/off, replaced both front door handles(not cheap), but I totally would & will by another Toyota. My daughter is buying one in 2 days. She needs a reliable car. I get 28-32 MPG mixed. Replaced the battery & put pads on my brakes. Regular tune up at 110,000(first set of plugs) Love the car. Not the most comfortable, but it never lets me down.

Great little car!
My parents got me this car to drive to college and they have not regretted it. At 5,142 miles, it has plenty of pep-my mother prefers to drive it than her Lexus! The fuel economy is excellent, and the saftey features are also very appreciated. The only problem I have had is the passenger side power window/lock piece springing up-but the dealer replaced it with no charge. It is definately a fun, reliable, and practical car. I would most certainly recommend the Toyota Corolla.
Superb Reliability
This is the most reliable automobile I have ever owned. We have two 1998 Corollas one is an LE and the other a CE. Both were purchased used at 30,000. Both now have over 100,000. This is truly an economy car needing normal maintenance and only one repair ever: the throttle position sensor on both cars one time.
Great Value
This car has been an incredibly reliable, low maintenance vehicle that has performed as well as I expect a Toyota to perform. Other than the routine maintenance, only had one problem (throttle control valve) that was replaced by the dealership. This is a great car for those whose ego's don't need to be soothed by driving the biggest, fastest, etc. vehicle out there.
