Used 2010 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews
Like it but I Do Not Love It
First off I should have bought the turbo. At the time I was concerned about gas and reliability. The turbo takes premium fuel and is usually less reliable. Don't under estimate the importance of FUN. The basic four cylinder does not have enough power to have fun, the acceleration is weak.I also like the aggressive looks of the turbo, the X is bland. If your looking for a basic commuter/hauler the forester is a good car but if you want some performance and luxury get the turbo or look elsewhere. I bought the forester because I needed some cargo space. They gave me a good price for my trade in. My last car was a Audi A4 so it's been a hard adjustment, I feel the down grade.
Smooth but rattles
The Forester 2.5X base model is a good value and is a decent and quiet AWD wagon on the road. I upgraded the base model with leather and installed my own hood protector, mud guards, and bumper guard. I'm still breaking in the engine at < 800 miles so mileage is all over, between 22 and 28 mpg. I owned a 2001 Forester S (loved that Subie) and changed to my 2.5X. The jury is still out as I need more time behind the wheel. The annoying and loud rattles in the rear of the vehicle is putting a damper on what should be an enjoyable driving experience with this Subaru. Some loading on the floor seem to quiet the rattles a little. I'll have the dealer try to fix the rattles next week.

I like it... so far
When you read this review please keep in mind that this is my first v4, awd, suv'ish car. i bought the forester primarily because i was looking for a small suv that could handle the snow and more rugged terrain, had more cargo room, and was environmentally friendlier (pzev was a big draw). Overall i would say that my experience has been good. The handling is not great although I think that may be because i'm used to low profile cars and the acceleration isn't great - it tends to stick on some gears. As a lot of other people mentioned, the stereo stinks but i only noticed rattle over speed bumps. i'm averaging 23 - 25 mpg combined so far.
Great Choice
First Subaru, made an excellent decision. Fuel economy avg 24 mpg combined. Moon roof great, sound system is very good, road noise better than all the others I test drove, handling is nimble at high speeds, braking excellent. All in all I am very happy with my Forester.
Good car, cheap interior
I owned an '03 XS Premium, which I traded for the '10. I love the added room and new exterior styling. Things lost from the '03 - the handling is less nimble and more boat-like, there is less usable cabin storage space, the radio is not as good, the cabin fit and finishes are not nearly as nice as before, and the red display lights and small lettering for the steering wheel, radio and fan/heat/ac controls are annoying and hard to read (don't designers know that red is irritating??). I will keep this car for a long time; I just wish Subaru didn't cut so many corners on the interior.
