Overview
The Porsche Macan EV is, first of all, an entirely different vehicle than the gas-powered Macan. It relies on the same formula, though: It's a luxury SUV with an emphasis on performance. Porsche added two new trims for the 2025 Macan, giving you a range of power options starting at 335 horsepower on the base Macan Electric and topping out at 576 hp for the Macan Turbo. We dig the electric Macan's performance capabilities but are less enthused with its high price and lack of standard features. Read our full Expert Rating to see if the Macan EV is right for you.
Estimated EV RangeThis vehicle’s electric range, which is how many miles it can drive on a single battery charge, has not been verified by the EPA. The estimate shown here is based on non-EPA sources.
EV batteries lose 1-2% of range per year. Est. range for this car is 245 miles after 8 years.Electric cars typically experience 1-2% of range loss per year with slightly faster degradation over the first 50,000 miles as the car settles into its long term state, according to Recurrent's study of 15,000 EVs.

Am I Ready for an EV?
EV ownership works best if you can charge at home (240V outlet) This typically means a 240V home installation, or other places your car is parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice.

Edmunds spotlight: Two new trims join the Macan EV party
Porsche added two new trims to the 2025 Macan EV: a base trim that is rear-wheel-drive only and a sporty 4S trim that adds a new electric motor to the all-wheel-drive Macan 4. If you're more interested in range than power, the base Macan Electric is worth a look. It gets the longest range of the EV lineup with an EPA-estimated 315 miles of range. Meanwhile, the new 4S could be appealing as a less expensive — but still high-performance — alternative to the electric Macan Turbo.
Competitors to consider
We'd recommend checking out the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. These two electric SUVs are roomier and more practical than the Macan EV. They aren't quite as fun to drive, however. A new alternative for 2025 is Audi's Q6 E-tron. It shares much of its underlying EV hardware with the Macan, meaning it has similar range and power. The main difference is the Q6 E-tron's classier-looking interior.

The 2025 Porsche Macan EV has the performance and power you'd expect from the nameplate while also providing a comfortable ride. It's more expensive than its competition and can't hold a whole lot of stuff, but if you value a joyful driving experience, the electric Macan should easily satisfy.
How does the Macan Electric drive? Depending on which model you or your wallet chooses, the Macan lineup offers varying degrees of performance from adequate to serious. At our test track, we tested the Macan 4 and the potent Turbo model. The Macan 4 sprinted to 60 mph in a respectable but not impressive 4.8 seconds, while the Turbo model nearly blurred our vision with a time of just 3.1 seconds. Even though both Macans felt docile and easy to drive around town, the Turbo always felt more powerful, more in line with what you expect from a Porsche.
Braking and handling performances are similarly disparate. Where the Macan 4 feels merely athletic, no small feat for such a heavy electric SUV, the Turbo is simply on another level. The Turbo we tested was fitted with optional high-performance summer tires, recorded a neck-stretching 1.01 g around our skidpad, and it had no issue keeping up with some serious sports cars on twisting backroads.
Just know that, unlike most other EVs, the Macan EV doesn't have full one-pedal driving, which is where you lift off the accelerator pedal and regenerative braking engages to slow you down and even bring you to a stop without ever touching the brake pedal. Many drivers find it convenient, but Porsche prefers that you use the brake pedal to effectively slow and stop the car.
Comfort
8.5/10
How comfortable is the Macan Electric? The Macan EV offers all-day comfort on all manner of roads. It simply glides down highways yet returns just enough road feel to keep you connected. Opting for the Turbo model stiffens up the ride quite a bit. The overall quietness of the interior adds to the comfort level. Both our test cars were equipped with the optional insulated glass, and we think it's a worthwhile and affordable option.
The Macan's climate control is a little less convoluted to use than the systems in other Porsches, thanks to manually (not digitally) adjustable vents. The rest of the controls are fairly similar and straightforward. Our test vehicles had four-zone climate control, which includes the ability for the driver to shut off every other zone to maximize efficiency.
Interior
8/10
How’s the interior? Buyers used to a modern Porsche will feel right at home inside the Macan EV. The infotainment screen is more logical and easier to use than in previous Macans and will likely impress buyers new to the brand. Drivers of almost any body size should be able to find their ideal driving position thanks to plenty of adjustability with the driver's seat and steering wheel.
The Macan's sensible ride height and wide door openings make it easy to step inside. Front passengers have ample room, but rear passengers might feel a bit tight, especially behind a taller driver. The rear seat cushions are low, which can make it feel like you're sunk behind those sitting in the front seats.

How’s the tech? The Macan EV uses Porsche's most up-to-date interface. The navigation system works great, and it's cool how you can project directions through the available head-up display. You can also integrate your smartphone wirelessly through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From wireless charging to four USB-C ports, there are ample charging opportunities.
The advanced driver aids are more of a letdown. We found the adaptive cruise control to be the best feature in our testing. It maintained a proper following distance from the vehicle ahead and was quick to speed up when needed. But the front collision warning was far too easily triggered by parked cars on the side of the road. In these instances, the brakes were applied quite firmly, which took us, as well as other drivers, by surprise. Another knock against the driver aids is that many of the systems available on the Macan Electric as options are standard on its competitors.
Storage
7.5/10
How’s the storage? With 19.1 cubic feet available under its hatch and an additional 3 cubes in reserve in the frunk, the electric Macan has space for most of your day-to-day hauling. But when compared to rivals like Tesla's Model Y, the Genesis GV70 Electrified and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, the Macan comes up a little short in overall capacity.
Interior storage is plentiful, although not much of it can be concealed from prying eyes. The door pockets are big enough for most drinks, and even backseat passengers will have some space for personal items.
How economical is the Macan Electric? We drove a Macan 4 and a Macan Turbo, both fitted with 21-inch wheels. The EPA estimates the Macan 4 to have a range of 308 miles and the more powerful Turbo to be 288 miles. On our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, the Macan 4 achieved a range of 351.7 miles. That's an impressive showing for an SUV, especially one with all-wheel drive. The Turbo clocked 301 miles, also impressive given its performance capabilities. As for efficiency, the EPA estimates a Macan 4 will use 34 kWh of electricity for every 100 miles of driving and the Turbo 37 kWh. We measured an even better 29 kWh/100 miles for the Macan 4 and 33 kWh/100 miles for the Turbo on our test route.
Quick charging speed is another Macan advantage. In our independent Edmunds EV charging test, we saw even greater peak charging speeds of 285 kilowatts than what Porsche states (270 kW), with the Macan 4 replenishing 100 miles of range in just over 8 minutes and the Macan Turbo needing less than 10 minutes to do the same. Road-tripping a Macan EV should be pretty easy thanks to its long range and quick charging.
Value
7.5/10
Is the Macan Electric a good value? While Porsche does give the buyer a lot of flexibility in choosing personalization options, there's no getting around the Macan EV's elevated price tag. Even if the interior is a little drab, at least the Macan backs up that price tag with excellent levels of fit and finish, both inside and out.
Warranty coverage is standard for a luxury brand, with four years/50,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and eight years/100,000 miles for the battery. Porsche includes four years/50,000 miles of roadside assistance as well as a year of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America stations.
Wildcard
8.5/10
The Macan EV inspires confidence in its driver for everyday situations as well as fun ones. Handling is crisp and intuitive and is balanced by just the right amount of power and traction to deliver genuine exhilaration. Its compact size, supple ride quality, and excellent range and efficiency numbers are only icing on the cake. If performance is more important than range, the Turbo model delivers the kind of numbers you expect from the Porsche badge.
Yes, it is expensive, but this isn't a new thing for Porsches. Part of that expense comes from the ability to fully customize the electric Macan and part of it comes down to just how well-rounded this electric SUV really is. While Porschephiles might balk at yet another SUV, and an electric one at that, the Macan EV is plenty good enough to attract new buyers as well as win over some of the brand's faithful yet stubborn loyalists.
Which Macan does Edmunds recommend?
We recommend the Macan 4 thanks to its combination of performance and value, especially compared to the top-of-the-line Turbo version. It's well equipped with technology and driver assist features, preventing the options overload that often comes part and parcel with Porsche ownership.
