A Disapointment ...

Bought with just under 90,000 miles on it. My Grand Am is no doubt a very sharp looking car and the performance is great. But before you purchase this car DO YOUR RESEARCH! I have owned this car for almost 2 years and it has been nothing of a problem. I have had to replace the AC unit and on my last road-trip I had the wonderful experience of a blown head-gasket. After fixing that for about $2,000 it turns out the bearings in my engine have been warped or contaminated by the anti-freeze,likely a result of the blown head-gasket so now its going to die. The car's interior is nothing to brag about. This car had a lot of potential but due to poor reliability I will be looking for a new ride.

Don't waste your money

Things were always going wrong and needed to be replaced with expensive 'special parts.' The window motor died & supposedly each window has a different specific motor... $750. The stereo LCD went in and out randomly as well as the ABS sensor light. This car also takes special tires... went to wal-mart & got the cheapest of that kind... $500+ for 3 tires. My air/heat duct came undone and i could only faintly feel air if it was set to level 5 (high). I was rear-ended the other day in Christmas traffic; it totaled it (because it's plastic), while the bmw that hit me was able to drive away afterward. Kelly Blue book says I'll only get 1k after all that money I put into it.

An average car...

I bought mine used in 2000 with around 30,000 miles on it. Until about 2 years ago it was a solid car. Then the first rear window motor broke, followed shortly by the other back window. I've replaced the brakes twice in 5 years and the rotors only once. The alternator I had to change in 2004. The only REAL complaint I have with it would be the dashboard trim where it meets the windshield...it's started peeling up. Oh, and it's been said before, but the cup holders in the front? Yeah, right...unless you have a CAN of pop, you're gonna have to shift into Reverse or Neutral to remove them when getting out. Good car, but too many issues to recommend it to others.

Make Sure You Get A Warranty

I bought a 1999 Grand Am SE 4 door about 10 months ago and I have had nothing but trouble since I bought it. So far the transmission has been rebuilt, oxygen censor had to be fixed, brakes had to be replaced, the trunk leaks and the back floors get wet when it rains. I have also had problems when trying to acclerate-the car jumps and sometimes stalls. The dealer hasn't figured out what causes it. Do not get me wrong I like my car-it drives nice (when it isn't acting up) but I don't trust it at all. So do yourself a big favor-do not get a Grand Am and if you do make sure you get a VERY good extended warranty. Chances are you'll need it.

I bought this car and it only had 12,000 miles on it. At 19,000 miles the automatic transmission went out and had to be replaced at MY COST ($3,000)! Then the alternater was replaced (Twice), both window motors had to be replaced, two front hub assembiles, the left CV joint twice, the right CV joint once, and it eats brakes like crazy (replaced 4 times just this year). I do not drive my car hard nor do I neglect it. I loved this car at first and now it is nothing but a headache. DO NOT BUY GRAND AM's they will live you in ruins!
