Awesome Car!!!
I truly love this car. From being from NJ it was fun to be one of the only G6 Coupe from my area. Everywhere I go I always get compliments! I simply love this car!
Fun, fun fun.
Bought this car to match the fun I have with my motorcycle. I use every hand and foot to shift and brake with it and I wanted a car to match that level of involvement. This G6 GTP is a hoot to drive and it goes like a fireball when I put my foot into it. Lots of fun but can get well over 25 mpg when I drive like my wife does.

Hell freezes over
My family and friends still can't believe I bought a Pontiac. Up until a few weeks ago I would have never believed it myself. Two weeks ago I traded my 2000 MB SLK 230 Kompressor for a G6 GTP coupe. With a new baby on the way I needed something with a back seat so my quest for a new car began. I've previously owned a '98 Honda Prelude,'95 300Z,'04 Elantra, as well as some trucks and other cars that my wife had. Make no mistake this is no sports car! It is though an extremely sporty looking car inside and out. In fact, I would say the best looking coupe under $30k. Handling was much better than expected but not as good as some competition. Ride was very smooth and better then others.
Fantastic Car
The new GTP is a blast to drive! It is tight, responsive and comfortable. I am extremely happy with my purchase!
Wow!
The new G6 Coupe GTP is amazing! WAY better than I ever expected. The coupe features Mercedes-Benz style windows that lower 1/2 inch to allow tighter seals around the window: class act! Pontiac looks like its turing itself around and putting the sport back into GM. For those of you who like seeing behind you while you drive, you may find the head rests and the small rear window to be intrusive, as the headrests block almost 50% of the rear view. Finally, the standard Stabilitrak system on the GTP keeps you on track...hopefully Pontiac will offer it to the "snow belt" on the other trim models.
G6 GTP 3.9L Coupe 2006
I ordered the car to my prefrences and received it July 15th 05. The handling is superb! Has plenty of power with the 3.9L engine. I have all the up-grades which I'm very glad I chose. The ride is a little hard but the performance makes up for it. I'm hoping for a little better gas mileage. Right now I get 20.5 per gal. The style of the car turns heads all the time. There is not much room for passengers in the rear, but that's not a concern of mine. This is a 1 person car for me. I put 50,000 miles a year on a car and need a dependable one. I've found this in Pontiac.
G6 GT just Great
Have been driving my G6 GT for 2 weeks now and I simply love it. I've already put over 600 miles on the car and averaging at least 25mpg. This car looks great, rides great, handles great and just feels real solid. One friend who is anti-american when it comes to cars said after driving mine they would definitely consider buying one. If you were like me and drawn in by the looks, after driving one and seeing it up close, the whole package will not disappoint. I love my new G6.
Fantastic Car
I just purchased the 2006 GTP. What a ride. Beautiful lines and feel on the road. The interior retro, clean and comfortable. Great car for the price. I love it.
G6 Review
The car is well built. The GPT model has hydraulic power steering, and has good response. The back seats are serviceable, but you really don't want to put your best friends in them for a long period of time.
Great Car
Sleek exterior design. The car looks as well as it performs. Acceleration is brisk, performance and ride quality is outstanding. The interior was designed for comfort and convenience to instruments and controls. A pleasure to drive and an excellent compromise between a sporty hi-performance car and and a unit with consideration to fuel efficiency.
Love it
I picked up my new G6 GT a few weeks ago and so far I love it. I've had several people comment on it and usually find someone looking at it when parked in a lot. I love the styling of the new coupe, the telescoping steering wheel and the Monsoon Sound system...GM did a great job designing this car although the side mirrors are a bit small.
I love this car
I bought my G6 GT a few months ago, I was going to get a 2001 BMW 540i M Sport with 80k miles Because I wanted something nice, different, something my friends didnt have, a friend who is a Pontiac saleman talked me into test driving the G6 GT, and I was sold, all the options I had with this car blew my mind, XM radio, auto adjustable foot pedals, leather, 6 disc cd, power sunroof, heated seats, lots of truck space, LOTS.. you wouldnt think so with this car, very comfortable ride, front or back, the car makes me think im in a $45,000 nissan 350z there is a lot of value in this car, soooo glad i didnt go BMW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love my G6
I've had my G6 Coupe for about 4 months now and I'm very happy with it. Good mileage out on the highway without compromising performance. A nice ride although a bit low to the ground. I've had lots of positive comments and I'd lease another G6 anytime.
Great underated sport luxury car.
This car is fantastic! GTP has power, rides smooth like a $50,000 luxury vehicle, best standard features. A bargain out there! I have owned a Porsche, Corvette, Trans Am, this car is great!! Looks great drives great.
G6 GTP Coupe
The performance on this car is amazing, it's 240 hp are extremely underrated. I opted for the automatic because the manual wasn't available at the time of purchase, if I had to buy again I'd buy the manual. The interior is great, except people over 6 ft tall will have head room problems in the back. The only downside of this car is fuel economy, I have a hard time getting over 23.5 mpg (another reason to get a manual), although for vacation driving on the highway it will get around 25 mpg if you keep the cruise on. This has been a great vehicle and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
GTP and FAST
Bought the GTP coupe and it is fast and fun to drive! The GTP is a affordible and safe sports car with side impact air bags, stablity control, traction ect. Unfortunately, the 3.9L does like fuel. The first 1K miles best I got is 17.5 MPG and after that am now at 20.5 MPG. For me this is my personal car and not used for work so gas not a big issue. I keep looking foward to weekends to take my GTP back out on the road.
A lot of Car for the Money
I traded in my Gran Prix GTP coupe for this car because the GTP was out of warranty and it used pricey premium gas. I have been pleasantly surprised by the car's handling and preformance. It drives like a Pontiac!
It's a fun car
This is a great looking, fun to drive car. Everyone likes the way it looks, and it's plenty fast. The sound system is good and I like the solid feel of the car. 4 wheel discs really make a difference when braking. Remote start was great on chilly mornings along with the heated leather seats. All in all a great package. Just took a trip and got over 30 mpg on the highway. A big overall improvement on my grand am.
A few dissapointments..but overall happy
I really dont like the monsoon sound system, its too boomy. I don't know if that's just mine or if all the monsoon systems sound like that. As Gib mentioned there is a leak problem but it's the sunroof, not the windows. The sunroofs drainage hose pops loose. Once reconnected, all is well. I love driving the car but wish it got better mileage. My old V6 (Dodge Avenger) would get 300+ miles per tank full. This one just gets 240-280, unless I take a long highway trip, then the mileage jumps. I like automatic but wish it were a 5 speed, or 4 spd w/overdrive. There's always gonna be problems, but these aren't deal breakers for me. I really do enjoy this car and recommend it. It's FUN!
love my car
I love the performance and the look of my car, it really turns heads. I have had strangers come up to me and ask about the car. They have all been impressed, no one else in my little town has one yet.
4 months and lovin' it!!!!!
4 months, 6500 miles and loving it all the more. I purchased and Electric Blue GT coupe loaded except for Onstar, replacing a 2001 PT crusier. Guess I go for the "different" look in my cars. Love it love it love it! Fun to drive, hence the high milage. I am averaging 28.9 combo driving with the auto. Very impressed with that. The most out of my PT Cruiser was 23.5 for an auto. Many comments about the remote start for the winter which will come in handy here in Massachuetts as well, but works just as well in the heat of the summer. I leave the AC on when shutting down the car and remote start to cool as well.! First oil change at 6388 at 10% oil life left.
It's OK
I guess I'm just not as blown away as everyone else. We have put 10,000 miles on our GTP now and I think it is a nice car but I do have a couple gripes; fuel economy, and power. It seems like a car with 240 horses should be a little quicker (hint - push and hold the traction control button for 5 second to turn off stability control!). Our average fuel economy is 19-20 mpg with my light-on- the-gas wife driving. Interior and exterior fit and finish are great. The layout of the interior was well thought out. Big trunk with a relatively small opening.
Nothing better in this price range!!!
I did a ton of research for a new car in the $20-$22K range and I can honestly say that you're not going to get a better car for the money, nor one that looks, feels, or drives better. When you opt for the premium upgrade package that includes the 17" chrome wheels, 6 cd changer, and sunroof, this car is gorgeous!! The 3.5L V6 has more than enough power for city driving and highways and the comfort for driver and passenger is amazing VERY roomy. The most amazing thing about this car (especially in black) is the way it looks at night!!! With all laser red dash and gauge lights it doesnt get much sexier than this. I would highly reccomend this car to anyone looking for the best around 22K.
Florida brings out best and worst
I like the car's responsiveness to the throttle, it is almost intuitive. I like the size of the car in a metro area. My wife drives it most of the time and really looks sporty in the red car with chrome wheels and sunroof open. I dislike the poor visiibility out of the rear window and the difficulty getting into the back seat. It needs a bit more head room back there. There have been absolutely no mechanical problems. The red color makes it hot to touch in the FLorida sun. The car is hot inside when you get into it. It needs heavily tinted windows.
I like IT
With over 117 models to choose from these days I went through several before making a decision and I can say this was and is a good decision. The car has great performance, handling and ride. Considering I examined cars from 18 to 36K this has everything a normal person could want at a great price. The last time I owned a pontiac was in 1990 and after that never considered them again until this came along the G6 coupe came along. All I can say is its about time!
Coupe De Gras
I've owned many Pontiacs and this is one of my favorites. From the sloping rear deck to the 18" wheels, it's a looker. Little things like remote starter and heated seats come in very handy on those cool days. The ride is excellent for its size thanks to the long wheel base. More driver headroom than my '04 Grand Prix.
Less Expensive BMW
Bought this car about 5 months ago. Still look forward to driving to work everyday. Performance is great for the money. Would not race it against a 300Z, but also paid a lot less. Ride is smooth, quiet and comfortable. I used to think my wife's MPV was quiet until I drove this.
Be Different
I selected this vehicle because it is like no other. Just about everyone drives a Mustang, if they want a sports coupe but I like to be different and this is just what this car offers. Combine this with more space for th driver and passengers and there is no comparison. Great Car fun to drive and well worth the investment.
Beware of Pontiacs
Do not buy a Pontiac, especially from this dealer (Capitol Buick Pontiac GMC in Baton Rouge)! I have only had the car for six months, and it has been in the shop over six times for the same things (broken speaker, leak in the sunroof). I traded in a '97 Nissan Sentra that had only been in the shop for repairs twice in its entire life!!! The dealership keeps on giving me the run around about the repairs. I wonder how many of the dealers' have free leaks! They even made the mistake of telling me that there are several G6's that are being brought back because of the same problem!
Fun in the Sun, not in the winter
Th car has a smooth power band, good in the snow, fair MPG (18-20city 24-26 hwy) nice extra features like in dash cd changer/auto lights, onstar... Inside has a cheap plastic look and feel. Hard to see out some winodws do to huge A and C pillers(sides of front & rear glass). Cup holders in very bad location when trying to shift into 2/4. COLDER areas beware, in the winter do to the way the windows are designed in the winter the snow/frost can freeze the window in the UP position, not allowing door to close without running a credit card along the seal first, window may break if you try and close in the UP position!! impossible to swap out radio for aftermarket
Exterior is a rival for imports
Love the interior options and exterior design. Car drives smoothly and accelerates quickly. Tires are a bit dicey--seem to slip at the least bit of rain, ice, snow. I would suggest a better gripping tire for this model. Get tons of queries and looks from passers by. The car is an eye catcher! The sporty feel and handling are excellent.
We need some aftermarket parts!
5 months with the car. Owned a Mazda 6 G before this one and the reliability and preformance are so much better in the Pontiac. Awesome car but where are all the upgrades? Give me some intakes and exausts for this thing. I wanna hook it up and show it off.
Awesome car
This car is great! I sell Pontiacs and this is something that is an easy sell. The car rides like a dream with comfortable seats and awesome power. I love the look. I smile every time I get out of it.
No complaints, lovely car
I've had my G6 four months now and I feel I can be objective. The engine is powerful at 240 HP and can really move. It is docile enough to cruise all day though. The leather seats are comfortable and firm. Plenty of leg room but I'm 5'8 and sometimes I hit my head on the ceiling, messing up my spiky hair. The ride is sporty but not bumpy. The fuel economy isn't great but my lead foot might have something to do with that. The sunroof, horsepower and 8 speaker stereo make it a fun car to drive. My girlfriend telling me to slow down, not so much. The body style is a love child between a 300Z and Solara. The grille is Pontiac but thankfully, no ugly body panels!
Great Car!
I love this car! It's as if this car were designed just for me. It is super fun to drive. Mileage is great. Style is awesome. Engine is powerful. Very quiet and smooth in every day driving. Very comfortable and roomy too.
Not for the meek
Just scored a 2006 GTP Coupe with a six speed manual trans and it is an amazing little car. Super fun to drive with power galore. Massive interior yet its still very sporty. I am 6 feet 4 and with the seat adjusted all the way back my legs are fully extended and very confortable. I have the sun roof and still have great head clearance. Very slick car.
2006 GTP
I've had this car almost a year now and I have no regrets. This is my first Pontiac and I was very, very hesitant about buying it. I had problems with Ford, Dodge, Mercedes, Jeep, and Chevy in the past but none with Honda and Toyota. I test drove my G6 GTP and felt it offered the most for the buck compared to Honda andToyota. I was just worried about reliability. So far, not one defect or problem! I have aready recommended this car to a few people. Not the best car in the world but possible one of the best well rounded cars for $24,000 and 0% financing. I use it M- F for work and my '06 Vette on the weekends. Great combination for under $78,000!
Needs more get up and go
This car is not very fun to drive. I had owned a Pontiac Grand Prix in the past which I loved so I assumed I would love the G6 even with a smaller V6 engine. I was mistaken. Aside from the negative of not being fun to drive, the positives are: 1) Very comfortable leather seats. 2) Decent monsoon stereo system. 3) Good gas mileage for an American car of this size. I have never gotten less than 25.7 miles per gallon even in city driving. So when I am fretting about the driving experience and counting the months until it is paid off, it always make me feel a bit better when I look at how many mpgs I am getting.
Good car for 2025
When I bought this car in 2023 it had a lot of problems every light was on but drove like a dime fixed everything that was wrong with it dude sold it to me with a tranny problem wasn’t the case had bad airflow replace the wheel hub assembly breaks ect ect drives awesome the car is out of tune now n needs a some stuff done to the computer over all it’s a nice fun car but without that computer tune she is slow

Worst Car I Ever Owned
I have owned this car since they came out. The first time I got into the car the check engine light was on, right their I should have stopped from buying the car. The 4 speed transmission is a huge let down, the power is their but not when you need it. The interior is cheap, the fabric stains easily. The paint on the front bumper pits easily from stones, etc. The doors are huge and heavy, heavier than a truck door. In GM's attempt to get a better looking car into the market than the Cobalt they have failed on a massive level. Overall this car is better in the junkyard than on the road!
Love it, but Hate it as well...
Purchased a red one, with a 6 speed, so it has the power I like and looks great. But within days of owning they needed it back for a recall to fix the sunroof. Then a couple months later I had a waterfall in the car. Sunroof is very loud when closed. Then the lock broke off. I had to get the rotors rotated at 20,000 miles. Will this cause more issues later? A sensor in the door must be going bad that sends the signal saying it is open or shut. The window is suppose to drop down when open & move up when closed. It moves back up before being closed & makes a horrible noise. Afraid it will break the glass. Also the radio doesn't always go off when the door is open.
Worst Car Pontiac Has Ever Made
The car is an all around piece of junk! The styling is ok but could improve in some areas. The paint is way to thin and chips easily on the front bumper. The transmission is junk, GM made a huge mistake by mating a 4 speed automatic to a 3.5L V6 because the gear ratios are too far apart and the power and response are not their when you need it. The cruise control lacks a good base, the car may drift + or - 5 mph before the car decides it want to accelerate. The interior is not much to be desired, the seats are not comfortable, the dash ugly and the radio can not be replaced. Overall the car is a HUGE waste of money, I am very disappointed!
Stylish and Practical
The 3.5 V6 engine provides plenty of power and the coupe is very quick at all speeds. Although the G6 uses a 4- speed transmission, gas mileage is pretty good. The G6 ride is firm and responsive, but there is a moderate amount of road noise. The interior is much improved over previous models, but still not perfect. The chrome outlined dash layout and controls are very nice, but there is way too much hard plastic that gives a cheap feel. Especially the steering wheel. It is hard, uncomfortable and will slip in your hands. The cup holders are put where drinks will restrict your driving. Overall, a well equipped and stylish vehicle for the money. Would recommend.
