best car I've had
The 1997 Olds Cutlass Supreme is best car I've ever had... period! It's now in its fifth year and almost trouble free. Usual small stuff that GM is famous for, but otherwise a first class, very reliable auto. No surprises. Fuel economy 35 mpg highway with the A/C on. Originally, I leased it for 3 years, then renewed the lease for another 3. It has turned out to be so reliable I plan to buy it at the end of the lease. A highly recommended vehicle.
Fun to drive, for FWD
Even though these cars are front wheel drive, they are entertaining to drive. I have done minor upgrades to mine, in the brake and tire department. Mine has been totalled...twice, and still only a few minor squeaks and rattles. Nothing I can't deal with. The 3100 V6 is anemic, though. An L67 transplant should fix that! Reliability has been stellar, minus one engine lost to the lower intake gasket. Fuel mileage isn't the best, I get about 28mpg @ 72mph. It's a sporty ride, really...relatively firm suspension, but not harsh. Steering is crisp, and the car looks good, really. Not an attention getter, and that IS good! I wish I could find more in good condition. I'd have a fleet.

Cutlass Lover
I am the owner of two of them. I have a red 4dr. (1996) and a White 2dr. (1995) I bought the 4dr. In 1998 and the 2dr. In 2000. I love the cutlass. Very reliable. I still have both of them today. They drive like I just bought them new. Good ride great brakes and handles great. I am in the process of buying another one. 1997 2dr. I think it is one of gm's most underrated cars. No major issues. Intake manifold is the only problem it both cars. (gm's designing) very well balanced car and is a great car to have. Can't go wrong with this one. With a little touch it can be very stylish.
Solid car
I bought this car with 96,000 miles. I have had only one serious problem with it, and it was the head gaskets. It was mostly my fault, however. The car is plauged by little issues that face all 1st generation W-bodies. Nothing major. I have had no problems with any electronics, suspension, or brakes. I would definately buy another one! The 3100 is great off the line, but a little sluggish in the passing department. Mine has leather, CD, and all the options. Very comfortable and smooth.
Pleased to no end!!!!
We had boughten our 97 Cutlass with 50k on it. Since then we have put on another 35K. Had to replace the alternator at about 80k and brake pads. Other than that it has been very reliable and a safe car to drive.
