2005 bought my Nissan Xterra with a platinum warranty, thank ggid because I had it only a few months and the service eng light came on. Nissan couldnt figure their owncar out. In and out of rge shop for 5 wks, replaced serveral things b 4 realizing it was a computer problem warranty covered it nd it was fine until about 70, 000. Then the tranny and raidiator went. Ever since its been a expensive nightmare. Of now no warranty so Nissan in Vallejo. CA where i purchased it in 2005 they were like no warranty "sorry about ur luck, but o'well. So i fixed it and now it hasn't been the same. One prob after another. Its been at my mechanics more in the last 10 months then with me. Problems: tranny, radiator, timing chain my decisionn to replace, catallitc converter, fuel pump, one sensor then another....now about $6000 into i hate to get rid of it after pumping that much money into it. Faulty radiator design destroys transmission

I too loved my Xterra up until a couple of months ago. Bad engine design results in a faulty radiator part leaking radiator fluid into the transmission, destroying the transmission and leading to upwards of $5-6k in repair costs. Early signs include a low rumbling while driving as though driving over rumble strips and disappear if you slow or accelerate. Do NOT ignore this! If you do you could end up with engine overheating at best or transmission failure while driving possibly resulting in an accident. This problem occured for me at 90K miles is a common occurance and for others has occured at as low as 50K. Nissan is fully aware of and has done nothing to fix the problem.

2005 Nissan Xterra Off Road 6MT 4WD

For the price, it's quite a roomy SUV with quite a powerful engine. THE CONS: The transmission is quite noisy and feels like driving a truck. Shifting is not as smooth as it would be in a car. Noise carries inside especially when shifting gears. Lacks the smoothe ride of a car or a luxury SUV. The dash is very dreary. Front passenger seat not very comfortable. The vinly lined cargo are tends to get scratched. Bad at handling corners. THE PROS: Fun to drive, especially on straight roads. Good performance(0-60 in under 8 sec). Pricing. Cloth seats have a unique fabric that give it a rugged look. Descent fuel efficieny when you take into account that it's a SUV and has a 265hp engine.

Loved the bright yellow color of this sporty suv. Boy was I dissappointed when the radio display malfunctioned at 15000 miles. I was even more dissappointed when the air condition went out completely. We live in Florida so air is a must and the compressor is pricey and should not have went out on a nissan so new. going to trade this on a RELIABLE toyota.

If you're expecting a plush SUV, this is not for you. The ride is not overly rough and the power is exceptional. The interior is solid with plenty of room for its class of SUV. Overall a very strong performer!!
